Community Update #118

Community Update Day!

Just as a reminder, these updates are smaller and are more focused on the community.  Whereas Development updates are centralised on adding in new features, expanding upon or adjusting existing features, and implementing new artwork and coding, Community updates are meant to introduce weekly raffles, new weekly raffle studs, new polls, and showcase some minor changes and bug fixes that have been made in the past week.

Notice: Upcoming Server Migration

We need to inform you about some potential disruptions to the site, and delays in new updates in the forthcoming weeks.

We originally had planned to move hosts next year so that we could prepare ourselves, take our time with moving, and get set up on some nice robust servers.  Unfortunately we are needing to move hosts sooner in our timeline than we had hoped due to some unforeseen circumstances.

Moving all of our servers will be a huge undertaking.  The servers first need to be physically set up, and for us to be given credentials to access them remotely.  We then need to do a lot of system setup, get background processes installed and running.  Then we have Gigabytes of live data to move - this will need to be done during a maintenance to make sure that no players lose any of their progress.

We also need to redirect our DNS.  This is usually quick, but depending on where you are in the world, may take up to 24-48 hours.  Unfortunately we will need to put the old servers into maintenance mode while the DNS propagates, which may mean that for a select few of you, the game will be down for potentially up to 48 hours.  This will be the same maintenance we use to make sure the live data is up to date, mentioned before.

We will give plenty of notice for when any maintenance will be happening.

Each server may take several days to a week to set up - we have already started this process.  While we are trying to move hosts quickly, we will take time to make sure that everything is done properly.

The Upside:  We are upgrading *all* of our servers.  This should mean that both games get faster, with more processing power.  For Wolvden specifically, we are offloading the image processing (for compressed wolf images) onto its own brand new server, so this should definitely lighten the load on the main servers and reduce those nasty 502 errors, as well as reduce lag by quite a margin.

Congratulations to the players that won a breeding with last week's raffle stud!  You'll know if you won, as you'll have received a Game Notification in your inbox informing you of such! As a reminder, the previous raffle stud's exclusive attributes were Dark Hazel eyes and the Cedar Lupos, Dark Brown Panda, and Honey Wings Heavy markings!  Cedar Lupos is now able to be applied via Random Marking Applicators and Total Shuffles.
