Allow All Males to Breed within the Pack

Posted 2020-11-03 16:54:52

If we’re talking about game mechanics, wolvden was continuous been pointed out by the devs to be different from Lioden, but the fact that this one breeding mechanic is the same puts a sour taste to my mouth. Especially when devs made a point to say that they don’t want to limit players playing style when in reality, the one breedable male does in fact limits the thing that devs are saying that they weren’t gonna do

Extremely strong support for more breeding males. As it is, I'm kicking myself for making my hunting pack all male, since their stats can't be passed on to future hunters. I'm planning on an all female pack with one pupsitting stud once all the males die out. Love the idea of setting permanent breeding pairs. It would cut down on puppies (at least for me, since half my pack would be male and half female, so less pregnant wolves in total) and would make me more likely to sex change/add markings/etc to various pretty wolves I find in explore.

@Scarlet

I get what you're saying! However, if you like studding, you still could if other breeding males were introduced! I know I would still stud, to introduce new genetics into my pack.

The thing you like wouldn't go away, but other people would also be able to play a new interesting way they like! & with more people keeping male pups, there might end up being more on TC, better stud variety, etc, which would benefit ppl who still prefer studding!

i don't think "that's the way is is so there must be a reason" is a very convincing argument though! Personally, I feel things could always be improved; if we just went "well there must be a reason it's like that" then none of these suggestion threads would exist yk?

I feel like if the in-pack breeding is included stud males won't be completely worthless though. Stud males are going to usually be way more impressive stat-wise and markings-wise than the usual non-stud male wolf. it's good you're addressing it though!

i'm very glad more people are concerned about relationships in the pack like i was, i know it's silly to worry about incest when most of us completely ignored it in lioden but if we have an option to have a more fleshed out breeding/genes pool in the pack i'll gladly take it lol

i was also planning to make a thread about in-pack nonstud breeding as well so i even made a little demo of what it'll look like. i think with it being a simple change in coding in the breeding screen and it being in such high demand it'll get added but i'll keep my fingers crossed

I also kinda feel that? The game did just come out so I assume things will be tweeked more and more to separate it from LD (I hope).

Like at the very least if breeding is changed up so my boys are worth something, then I can more or less live with everything else for now.

I support this 10000%

Ive seen a few suggestions on having permanent breeding pairs to reduce puppies and while its not my  first choice as a solution it would make the scrying stone for puppy outcomes a much bigger game mechanic - as people would want to be sure that the pairs puppies would actually be nice before comitting to a pair.

Personally I think that male wolves should have heat cycles similar to female wolves, making timing of heats even more important for getting litters you want. The current system encourages mass breeding because packs are mostly female which means more litters are being made per pack than if they were 50/50 male/female

I extremely support this! I would love to pass on the genes of my other male wolves, instead of just having them be unbreedable. I do think that we should only be able to have one wolf in the pack to stud out, to keep the balance in the studding economy on here, if that makes sense (Idk if this was already said or not)

Big support! I have some pretty males in my pack, and I'd love to be able to breed them too >.>

This would definitely help the overall rejection of anything male in-game, too. I do like that males can be used in roles, but something else still needs to be done... even if there's a limit on how many breeding males you can have in your pack -- just something that's more than one!

I definitely support this as well! Letting other males breed within the pack, especially considering that the game isn't even meant to be hyper-realistic, is actually more realistic than one wolf only.

Even implementing a non-stud slot limit per week, or in-game year or season would be much better than one only. As it is now, it's mostly how lions work. And wolves, of course, are not lions, to be fair.

I couldn't have agreed anymore with this post! I am currently struggling with who to have as a stud because I have to either choose the lore to my pack's story or actually begin a breeding project. Which makes it difficult because SC is hard to come by to be able to pay for another stud in a different pack.
