Make Topic Subscription Opt-In rather than Opt-Out

Hi!

So, I've found that having to remember to uncheck the 'subscribe to thread' option every time I go to post anywhere is pretty tedious!

It's actively discouraging me from posting, actually, because of how annoying it is to get a 'new activity' notification, get excited that something I'm tracking has a new response, check what the new response is- oh, it's an update to that thing I replied to but hadn't meant to subscribe to, now I have to go to that thread and find the unsubscribe button.

If we could have that checkbox unchecked as a default, or even have the opt in/opt out as a player setting for those who like this feature?

Ugh yes. It normally am not one to post on forums, but it would be really nice for things like this, where I am actively going around to different forums and commenting on them. Because I don't frequently do it, I often forget to uncheck the "subscribe to thread" box. It'd be nice for me to choose if I am going to or not (watch me forget to check it for when I do want to subscribe lol)

Another option is to maybe add a “Bookmark Thread” button that doesn’t give you notifications like “Subscribe to Thread” does.

Okay quick thing I just thought of. Maybe move the "Reply!" button to below the box to check to subscribe and the "Bump!" button over to where the reply button is now. I've almost accidentally clicked "Bump" instead of "Reply" after unchecking the box and I'd lose all my stuff I wrote.

Or if it's easier, move the "Subscribe" box over to where the "Reply!" button is now. It's a tiny change, but it could maybe help a lot of people from losing things they've typed up lol

Yes this is something I also really support. I often post on lots of Looking for Posts, and it's hard to remember to shut it off everytime. Clogs up my subscriptions. A user setting for this would be optimal, so users could better tailor their experience.

Support! I miss Lioden's bookmark feature and often forget to uncheck the "subscribe to this thread" button, which leads to me getting annoyed by the notifs I don't want

I would support an option in our player settings that will determine whether "subscribe" is ticked on or off by default.

Yeah, I really don't want to be subscribed to everything!

I also think @smimley's idea of putting the Subscribe checkbox above Reply instead of above Bump would be extremely useful - maybe that could be posted as a separate suggestion?

I'd prefer this to be an account option rather than a site-wide default either way, but I support this idea as an improvement over the current state of things.
