SUMMARY

The Te Yae'itewu are a nomadic group of wolves connected by Sye'ae, a deity who is believed to be connected to all things living and holds within her the souls of those past. While these wolves typically seem to reside in the mountains, they can be found scattered across many biomes.

LIFE IN TE YAE'ITEWU

The Te Yae'itewu do not consider themselves a "pack", but rather a network of companions. While some may reside together in a group, they believe the term "pack" to be too restrictive. This being said, they will not go out of their way to correct others when they are called a pack unless necessary.

The wolves in Te Yae'itewu are generally friendly to outsiders and are more than happy to be hospitable. They are enthusiastic storytellers, and whether they are staying put or traveling, they will often jump at the opportunity to share their tales. Many Te Yae'itewu wolves will leave souvenirs, such as clothes or decoration gifts when they visit.

When a wolf is not travelling about, they are most often found in a central location called Homestead. This location is where they will nest for their puppies, come to be treated by herbalists, and have meals with friends. It is often bustling with life and conversation. Visitors are always welcome! Te Yae'itewu believes in hospitality and community, and is always happy to house others.

TRADING

Because of the nature of Te Yae'itewu, select traveling wolves are permitted to offer trading with other packs. Te Yae'itewu's large resource network allows them to trade food, medicine, crafting resources, den materials, and other valuables.

RELIGION & BELIEFS

Te Yae'itewu believe in a deity called Sye-ae. Sye'ae is sometimes referred to as Mother Sye'ae. She is thought to be a looming presence of love that envelops the world in her embrace. She is connected to all living beings. She is the bridge between the living and the spirit realm.

Beyond Death

When a wolf dies, the wolf's spirit becomes one with Sye'ae, who preserves their consciousness in a near, yet distant dimension. This dimension is believed to sit somewhere between the living and the spirit realm.

Herbalists can use a mystical mixture to access this distant dimension - however, it can only be accessed during lunar events. After ingesting this mixture, a wolf will become drowsy and fall asleep. Their consciousness will meet the bridge that Sye'ae provides to speak with those who Sye'ae holds.

Death of the Living

Te Yae'itewu hold great respect for the dead. As they believe that Sye'ae is connected to all life, they have many rituals and traditions surrounding when a wolf dies or when they have killed prey for the hunt.

When prey is killed, they show respect for their prey in it's death by giving a small prayer: "May Sye'ae grant your spirit safe passage into her embrace."

The Heritageless

Wolves without heritage are direct descendants from Sye'ae, or even reincarnated souls of those who have rested with Sye'ae and need more time in the living world.
Some wolves may come to remember who they were in their past lives, though this is not the case for all. Heritageless wolves have a special and deep connection with Sye'ae. They often have a mystical presence and charming personality.

Lillemor is known that some puppies that seem to come from nowhere could be connected to Sye'ae, though she does not know much about the connection. More often than not, she takes the puppies in and once she stumbles upon a Te Yae'itweu wolf, will offer them.

Combat

Te Yae'itewu are known to stay out of combat with other wolves. They are a peaceful group by nature and will work to prevent all battles unless necessary. They will protect themselves and others that may not be able to protect themselves.

NOT SOLIDIFIED: RELIGION NOTES?

i think that leads inherit access to the souls of past leaders
they have a special connection that gives them the ability to sometimes come in contact with former leaders for their wisdom, but only former leaders
this isn't quite the same as like...starclan? they do not bring prophecies or messages, but they do bring wisdom and teachings from their time

a herbalist can help strengthen this connection during lunar events, if need be, with the mystical mixture -- however, the lead's almost always have a connection with the former leaders of time past.

TRADITIONS

Fur Dyeing & Painting

Te Yae'itewu have a practice of dyeing their fur other colors. Fur dyeing is performed by the herbalists, who apply the colored dye and then through a mystical power, that dye becomes permanent. The dyed fur can even be inherited by future pups!
Painting, on the other hand, is a little more common. Paint can be found on many wolves, though it may not always "match" their attire. These paintings often hold some sort of symbolism.

Symbolic Clothing

Te Yae'itewu believes strongly in representation. Certain roles in the pack are signified by specific items worn by those wolves.

Scouts where torc neck pieces and matching bracelets.
Herbalists where crystal necklaces and pendants.

Gifting(?)

Gifting is a common thing among those who interact with Te Yae'itewu. Because they are hospitable and open to sharing their resources, they often send gifts to wolves in other packs.
A common gift is flowers! Flowers are often used among Te Yae'itewu. The type or colors of the flowers symbolize what the wolf's feelings are.
A few examples are: Golden Poppy are used to tell another wolf that their presence is enjoyable. Virginia Bluebells are used most often to show gratitude.

Courtship Presents

When wolf is courting another, gifts are the an acceptable way of pronouncing their love. Most often, this comes in the form of special paints, flowers, feathers, and jewelry.
There are specific flowers used in the courtship process.
Purple roses are used as a tentative courtship gift, symbolizing the desire to get to know another wolf romantically. Red roses are used as a loud proclamation of love, but Burgundy roses are used to show their devotion.
