Snowshoe Hare?

So I was just exploring, and an interaction I hadn't seen before popped up. It was a snowshoe hare, and the two options I had was to ambush or to follow. Being curious and thinking it'd give me an herb or something, I was completely surprised. It said the den was filled with hare skulls and such, and I managed to steal a lucky foot as the hare jumped at my throat. 

Theory? We have a Ted Bunn-dy on our hands.

it was a hostile mob before it got removed on minecraft
