"i see, i suppose a loner doesn't have much use for the specific customs for each area," vasistha commented, realizing loners did live quite a different life. probably one with fewer rules. but once vera mentioned the mountain pack, her ears perked up in alert.

"take down bears?" vasistha repeated, trying to imagine the sight. she and her pack had a few encounters with bears on the way to the mountains but they were only smaller black bears of the forest. she couldn't imagine taking down whatever monstrous bears lived in the mountains. that pack must be not only strong but smart in order to strategize how to take down a bear without too many casualties.
"thank you for the tip.. they haven't been too hostile yet but it's always good to be on alert.."

then, vasistha suddenly realized what she was scouting for and remembered that the loner was 'honestly everywhere'. "you mentioned that you'd been 'everywhere', yes? do you know of the lands beyond the mountains? down the river, east?"

at the mention of the ocean, vasistah's ears perked up in interest. she truly missed the ocean. the sand, the waves, and the beach, all of it she deeply missed and mourned. but she knew that her home was destroyed. invaded and taken by the humans. but maybe, there was a beach untouched?

"well, my pack is looking for another place to live. the lakeside is only temporary," the wolf replied with a sigh before confessing, "we are actually sea wolves from the western coast but the humans drove us out. we've traveled far but haven't found anywhere suitable as you can tell." as she spoke, there seemed to be a string of sorrow woven between her words.

"well, it sounds like something," vasishta replied, her tone slightly brighter. humans were almost always an inevitability when securing territory. except if you were in the middle of the mountains or desert, she supposed. but most of the time, they were always there. either setting up their thin triangular dens for a few moons before moving or just passing by. "hopefully they won't be too ravished by humans.."

she trailed off before she noticed some thunder echoing throughout the distance, her ears moving towards the direction. she had almost forgotten it was raining due to their rather pleasant conversation. "it sounds like a storm is brewing," she muttered, gazing upon the sky before turning to the other wolf, "you have shelter, yes?"

"is that so?" vasishta's eyebrows raised, not noticing the other wolf had been distracted by her slightly blue pelt. perhaps since she was so used to seeing blueish pelts in her former pack it just seemed just as common as a black or brown one.

"that's not ideal," vaishsta commented, mainly to herself. she would hate to be caught up in a storm with no shelter. but i guess that was the danger in being a loner. she glanced around before turning back to vera. "i could take you back to my pack's den if you'd like. our leader is rather friendly and won't mind. but if you're not comfortable with that, i do remember seeing a few empty caves on my way here. i could possibly show them to you?"

the wolf laughed softly at vera's musing before replying, "they are both equal distance away but if you don't mind, i'll take you to my back. there's sure to be extra prey from the hunting party and i'm sure my leader would like to ask you about the things you've come across during your travels."

vasishta picked up the shell that she still had underneath her paw and turned to walk back to her den, only turning her head back to see if vera would follow.
