"my, i suppose you truly are older than you seem," vasishta joked, implying vera sleept like an elder. the wolf quickly stripped the duck's feather's off, rinsing one of them in the lake water before playfully sticking it in vera's fur beside the woodpecker's feather. she ate quickly and quietly, leaving quickly to discard the bones and remnants somewhere else. when she returned, the cleaned her snout in the lake water and took a quick drink before curling up beside vera, her eyes staring up at the sky. "goodnight," she said softly, glancing at the other wolf before looking at the sky's reflection in the water. it usually took her a long time to fall asleep but for some reason vasishta felt herself drift away as soon as she closed her eyes.

at the other wolf's touch, in her sleep vasishta also moved closer in search of some warmth...

... after a peaceful night and slumber, vasishta was awoken by the early morning rays and the sound of honking geese arriving from migration. she wrinkled her snout from the light and buried her face into what she thought was her own fur but was actually vera's.

vasishta slept in a few moments longer before the honking of geese was too much for her to handle. she slowly opened her eyes, her eyebrows furrowed in annoyance before she lifted her head up to see a whole flock in the water. she bared her teeth and moved her head in between her paws and slowly got into a position where she could jump forward. still believing the wolves to be asleep, a couple of geese floated closer, loudly honking.

vasishta narrowed her eyes and waited for the perfect moment to spring forward. once she found it, she lept into the water, catching two male geese by the neck and splashing vera with only a little bit of water from her dive.

when vasishta rose from the water she saw vera jump up and bare her teeth. but when she saw the wolf instantly relax when she saw that is was vasishta who woke her up, vasishta laughed and swam to the lakeshore. she dropped the two dead geese to the ground before shyly apologizing with a chuckle, "sorry to wake you. those geese kept honking and wouldn't let me sleep in so i had to shut them up."

"perhaps you were right about sleeping outside with the snow, it was quite nice," vasishta smiled and licked the blood off her chops. if she was being honest, it was one of the best sleeps she's had. "would you like one of the geese? or will you hunt something that maybe has more fur on it?"
