We'll See Where This Goes -- Ccl and 432302

Branwen's eyes narrowed, and she glanced from the visitor to Raziel. "Raziel, what do you mean?"
Raziel shifted, he couldn't help but feel an odd panging guilt. He was certain he'd done the right thing; Branwen should know. What was he expected to do, never tell his leader that--
"She's a cryptid," he said, "I think. Or something like it."
Branwen considered this in silence for a few moments. She wasn't necessarily sure what implications that information had. She said slowly, choosing each word carefully, "I don't know if that's... pertinent to our business today. I see no reason we should rethink our alliance. If I may ask--" she looked up at the other alpha. "Claire, is this true? And if so, why hide it from me?"

She sighed, closing her eyes momentarily before opening all three. "I've learned that normal wolves fear Cryptids such as myself. I will not deny it- it is very much true. I simply did not wish to scare you or your pack." She paused. "If you wish, I can show you my true form. I see no point in keeping it a secret now that the information has been said." She didn't really want to, but for the sake of negotiations she would try to be as cooperative as possible here.

Branwen considered this, then nodded. "I can see why you hid it from my pack--as you may have noticed, not all of them are the most...considerate, and may have acted on impulse and attacked you. I'll address their fear of cryptids, but I see no need for them to know this about you, at least for now." Her tail tip twitched absentmindedly. "They're a superstitious lot--Raziel and I have already inspired suspicion from them." She didn't bother to bring up why.
Raziel deflated, glad he hadn't sparked a conflict. Then a thought brushed the back of his mind. "If you don't mind me asking--" he glanced at Branwen, who nodded her permission-- "do you know anything about the corrupted creatures? Luc- an elder of ours seems convinced that they have something to do with cryptids."
Branwen grimaced. "Lucienne has always been a cranky old fool," she said with a rare bitterness. "But I suppose it's a fair question. Does your pack have any knowledge on the corruption?"

She chose to ignore the part about her possibly having been attacked. She figured. "Rumors say the witches have done it, and there is reason to confirm that. But it's spreading fast. I know for a fact it is not to due with the Cryptids. Sure, the Merged can be issues, but no Cryptid is capable of this." She paused, stiffening a moment before growling quietly. "I should probably head back soon."

"You're free to go whenever you wish," Branwen said. "Raziel can escort you off our territory." She stood.  "I don't mean to accuse you or your kind of the corruption, and I appreciate your input. If there's anything you'd like to go over or finalize, do let me know. I appreciate you coming by--if you'd prefer, we could meet on your territory or at a neutral location next. I apologize if this was... overwhelming." She was mostly thinking of October, but knowing her pack, likely others had made equally rude of appearances.

The cryptid barked a soft laugh. "It's alright. I've been around more chaotic packs," her own, "It would be good to finalize a few things, another time perhaps. My scouts patrol by the hour. Feel free to pay my territory a visit whenever you wish to discuss next. And, if you don't mind, I can find my own way back." She wanted to stretch her wings properly rather badly. She didn't go out much so a fly would be nice. She kept that unsaid.

"If you could spare a moment," Branwen said, "our pack has something to offer you. Raziel?"
Raziel understood immediately. He scurried deeper into the den, and found the winding path obscured by more deerskin curtains.  He emerged a few minutes later, something bone-colored, hefty, and branchlike clamped in his jaw. He deposited it heavily at Branwen's paws, and she pushed it to the Cryptid.
"An antler of the Cain elk," she said, "as a token of our good faith. It's a rite of passage in our pack for a yearling to hunt their own Cain elk, all by themselves. They're a rare breed, and live at high altitudes. This wasn't caught by a pack member--it was salvaged from a carcass by Raziel here, not too long ago. They're said to bring good fortune. At the very least," she added with a wry smile, "it'll make a charming mantelpiece."

The Cryptid nodded, studying the antler. It wasn't bad, and she knew rejecting it would probably be offensive. She didn't want it, but wouldn't reject it. "Thank you," she kept it short and simple, deciding that was the best option here.  She would offer something if Branwen ever came by her own pack, but for now the creature settled on just nodding her acceptance of the gift and rising to her paws. "Is there anything else?" She sounded like she didn't want there to be. Her tail flicked nervously, elongating and growing scales for a moment before it changed back to a normal wolf's tail, as though nothing had happened.

Raziel and Branwen exchanged a glance, and Raziel shook his head slightly at her. She stood,, smaller than the cryptid but, in that moment, Raziel saw them as equally authoritative. "I don't have any more business for you today," Branwen said. "Thank you for visiting our pack. I look forward to meeting you again in the future."
Again, she looked at Raziel, and he felt distantly uneased; did she expect him to say or do something? He couldn't think of anything to add, so just glanced down at his paws.

(Sorry for not responding, it's been a wild week; feel free to badger me in the future if you get impatient!)

(All good!)

She ducked her head. "I will see myself out. Thank you," she picked up the antler then turned and padded away, tail swishing. For a moment, it might appear as a serpent tail, but that quickly changed back to a normal wolf's tail. She hardly had the patience to get out of the camp before she shook herself, her form altering into her Cryptid form. She flapped her wings then took to the sky, not caring as much as she should have about who did or didn't see her. As long as she got home in time.
