Kindle is confident (romantic type) and Thorn is impulsive (aggressive type). That means that they will always get -2 relationship when socializing. There are only two ways to build their relationship in a positive way. You could use a personality changer to change one of them to match the other's personality type. Then they would get +5 relationship when socializing. Or you can pairbond them later, after you complete the "A Pair of Lovers" tutorial quest. That will force +5 relationship when socializing, regardless of personality type.
