just curious: do you find males on wolvden useless?

I try to avoid having males at the moment but, eventually when I get more territory slots I'd like to get male hunting party.

useless...isn't really the right term. it gets picked a lot which ultimately sparks the debate of "they're not useless they can do everything females can!". but a better term would be wasted potential or genetically a dead end.

yes..they can do everything a female can do but.

do they have a pretty coat? doesn't matter, they can't pass that on

do they have super high stats? doesn't matter, they can't pass it on

vs female:

do they have a pretty coat? awesome, maybe you can get some neat pups!

do they have high stats? awesome, they can make better starting stat puppies

i don't make money from breeding; in fact i've had exactly 3 litters thus far and sold about 3 puppies from it, and kept the rest. but i don't see the point in having a male wolf, putting time into them, and for what? the stats they've gained from hunting or scouting mean nothing. the entire reason i put effort into the wolves i have is indeed so i can aim to create higher statted puppies to improve my pack overtime. nbw's only do so much with their starting stats, it would be nice to breed my own way up tbh.

why am i going to buy a pretty looking male wolf? simply put.....i'm not. their looks mean nothing unless i pay.

male wolves can't help with that. they're.....simply put, a dead end. it doesn't matter if they have the fanciest markings & the best stats. unless you sex change them, or make them your breeding male - both costing gc - they can't contribute genetically.

having one breeding male just puts the issue that any other male wolves outside of your breeding male are a dead end genetics wise. male wolves are selling much less than female wolves just based on that fact. opening up for other wolves in your pack to breed would 100% remove that issue.

They're useless. I still use NBW in my pack since I'm new so I'm not going to replace them till they're of retirement age, but, I've started preparing for my second hunting party and it's females only. I won't buy any males, unless they're a future heir /stud.

Eh, I wouldn't say useless since they can hunt, scout, etc., but certainly I agree that the specific genetics and stats of male wolves are almost entirely irrelevant to gameplay.

I plan to keep them around anyway since I enjoy having male wolves for lore purposes, and want them to look good and hunt well, and don't plan on doing much breeding anyway, but I can definitely see that people with more focus in breeding would be displeased by having males kicking around and taking up space.

I already sex changed my best males to female and am not keeping any males or I sex change them. They’re a wasted resource, sort of like if you got a male scout and he’s 7 years old and 1k stats. Cool now either make him your breeding male for a short time or he just dies and all that work you put into him just vanishes. A genetic and stat dead end as others have said. Even if they just had limited breedings within pack that would be better. I still kind of like the Casanova role idea, maybe I should suggest it.

Hot take: all wolves on Wolvden are useless because they eventually die, all the time and money you put into them will be wiped sooner or later. Females at least have the advantage of being able to pass their traits on to the next generation.

I have to admit that I don't see the point of my nonbreedable wolves having roles. What are they doing besides taking away stat increases from my wolves that can eventually pass their stats?

The males (except the BM) you see in my account are either there because I needed a place holder or might be changed to female in the future if a better candidate doesn't get bred. Otherwise they'll eventually be chased.

For me, they have a use in my hunting parties, being my healer and one of my puppysitters. I made the mistake of going gung ho and befriending every wolf I met, not taking into account that females were a better option and not chasing those with no markings. I'm stuck with a BM with no markings, which means boring litters, predominantly. Now, I'm waiting until they're able to retire because I don't feel like replacing them and rebuilding.

So, I guess I would say I have current use for them, but females would be more useful for me, in terms of breeding.

if they look good or they have good stats imma keep them no matter the gender. but i do have a preference for females because i like breeding and also i'm too lazy to replace a lot of my wolves :p

yeah lets all have packs of girls lesbian rights 👍 seriously though i only keep a couple around if im low on pupsitters or something. other than that, if theres a pup born male i like i gender change it bc otherwise it feels like a waste 🤷‍♂️
