They were both tall, yet one was taller than the other. The taller had demon-like features. His horns were black and they slightly angled backward like they were bent in the middle. He did have a few tattoos that I could see, but his baggy clothing hid all of it. His white hair looked fluffy. It was tied up into a messy bun, but most of it is down. I could tell that he was muscular, despite him wearing baggy clothing. The shorter one had more human features. He had pointy ears, like an elves'. He had sharper features than his brother. You could tell he was cleaner, more orderly. His hair was slicked back out of his face. It didn't look as soft as his brothers' but it still looked soft. He was wearing skin-tight clothing. The deeper voice was speaking passionately and his tone was stern, it was easy to gather they were talking about something important. The other voice was trying to calm him down with the words he was saying. The deep-voiced man was also speaking with large gestures, and I caught a few glimpses of his hands. He was wearing some baggy clothing that made it hard to make out much of his features except for a few details. The higher-pitched voice spoke one more brief line before the deeper-voiced man responded in a louder voice. He seemed angry, he was talking faster and louder as he spoke aggressively about something. It was clear that the two of them were arguing about something. From the brief glimpses I saw during the argument, the deeper-voiced one was talking about how the second man had almost killed him on several occasions and the second man was telling him that it had been the deeper-voiced one's fault. The second man was saying that things had happened to him that was worse than being stabbed in the dick. I didn't see them before they started arguing so I didn't know the context of any of this. I was slowly walking behind them and watching them argue. From the glimpse, I could see the second man was also speaking with gestures and talking quickly, though his words weren't easy to make out since he was speaking so quickly. I was a good distance behind them and they weren't saying anything too loud, so I doubted they noticed me following them. The longer I watched them argue the more my curiosity was getting the better of me. The deeper-voiced man paused and looked directly at me with an intense glance. It felt like I had done something wrong and I felt myself shiver at being the center of that intense look. I immediately pretended to admire the colorful cherry blossoms that I was close to try and hide the fact I was just listening in on them in the first place. I wasn't sure if the argument was still going on as I was only focused on the flowers to try and play dumb. I tried to casually move away when I suddenly felt the intense eye contact was still on me. I quickly looked at the flowers again in the hope of passing it off as me just taking an interest in the flowering trees. I slowly shifted away, I was still keeping my eye on them though as I was worried they would do something dangerous if I kept walking. The two of them started to walk faster, the taller of the two was walking with no sound from his bare feet. I realized that the second man was also walking with no noise from his steps as well. I climbed up a tree to avoid being spotted by them. I was now just a bit below the middle of the tree trunk. The height offered me a decent view of the surrounding area. The sweet scent of lavender filled the air. The cherry blossoms were nearly blooming; their white petals began to shift to a tint of pink at the tips. I was sitting on a nearby tree trunk, leaning against it as best I could. The tree seemed to hug me close, its branches gently brushing against me. I let my senses roam free as the wind blew through the leaves, the birds chirping was a soft lullaby that seemed to drift by. The ground below was still and peaceful, with little sound other than the gentle breeze, rustling leaves, and chirping of birds. The taller one had appeared next to me; I was focused on the noises from the leaves until I noticed him standing there. The breeze blew through the tree branches, and I could hear the leaves rustling gently. Other than the sounds of nature, the man's presence was unnervingly silent. "Can I not sit here?" I asked, keeping my tone of voice calm and measured. The taller man just stared at me, his face was expressionless aside from faint disdain in his eyes. He didn't answer my question, and he just loomed over me instead. The taller man's words dripped with menace as he loomed over me, "How much did you hear of our conversation?" The man's glare never broke, and I could tell he would have no hesitation in killing me. I swallowed my discomfort and fear, hiding it by playing dumb. "Not much? I'm sorry if it seemed like I was being nosy." I waited to see if he would accept that, however he glared at me before speaking in a menacing tone. "I suggest you tell the entire truth. I might be merciful, but my brother will not hesitate." The man casually motioned to the spot I was admiring the flowers earlier, as if he knew I was admiring the flowers. "Honest, I promise." I tried to defend myself with a lie. I sharply inhaled from my fear of the situation, the tall man narrowed his eyes. "I assure you, if my brother doesn't kill you, I'll do it myself." He leaned closer, getting to a point where I could see the detail in his face. One eye was white, another was black, the stubble on his chin was light blonde. I stared at him, the same thought was running through my mind. I just realized I had been staring at him and snapped out of it, panic filling me. "I didn't hear anything," I lied. A pause lasted what felt like an eternity. The hothead stood there, the tension rising exponentially with every passing minute. It wasn't until he pressed the knife against my throat where the pain of the blade drew a sharp breath from me. Drops of blood started dripping down my neck. I tried my best to stay calm, however my desperation was clear when I lied. "Can't you tell that I'm telling the truth?" I tried to sound confident, but at this point, a five year old could lie better than me. The hothead let the blade dig more and more into my throat, and the urge to kick him in the dick just rose exponentially. He took in a breath before speaking, "Ah, but you see, my brother and I have an amazing skill where we can see, smell, and hear pure bullshit." The man's words were tinged with amusement and cruelty. "So unless you want to lose more blood, I suggest you start talking. Now." The tension was building with each passing breath. I narrowed my eyes in hopes that my fear didn't show, though I also hoped that none of what I heard showed on my face as well. "Fine," I finally said, "I heard most of it. I don't know if you two were talking before I came here or not. There, I didn't lie." I tried to back away, but I felt the blade pressing against my throat again. The hothead abruptly stopped pressing the blade against my throat and signaled for his brother to remove the sword from the bushes. He paused, as if debating what to say next. "We were talking a long time before you started listening, kid. So, keep those pretty little lips of yours shut and don't say a word of what you heard, Ok? Ok." He climbed down from the tree branch, his brother disappearing as well. The hothead then headed towards an abandoned warehouse, while the other disappeared from my view. As the hothead walked towards the abandoned warehouse, I reached for where the knife had been pressed against my skin. Feeling the spot the blood had dried on my neck, and the fact that it seemed to have only breached the surface made me relieved to know that he intended no harm. Wiping off the blood I laid back down on the branch, taking a breath. I found a comfortable position, hoping to lose myself in nature. Hearing the leaves rustling, the calm barking of an occasional dog here and there, I let myself drift away into a peaceful slumber. The events of the encounter with the brothers played in my mind, their supernatural features and menacing demeanor still fresh in my memory. Who were they? What were they arguing about? And what did the second brother mean when he said worse had happened to him? I eventually managed to drift off into a deep sleep, the warm spring air filling my nostrils. |
