Flavor text to guess wolf's personality in Befriend

Posted 2020-12-14 23:50:56

@Spear - The fight and befriend sometimes come in different orders? :O I didn't know that! Anyway, I agree, flavor text was just the best I could think of. It could be based on a visual hint when seeing the wolf, but you can encounter wolves by other ways in Explore that don't show the wolf's image.. Hm. I don't know.

@speedyscout Yeah! I have no idea why. It doesn't seem tied to level or personality but I've seen the order as both "Fight or Befriend" and "Befriend or Fight"

I was really disappointed when I went for when my hypothesis failed. Anyway that's off topic

Maybe have it be something that unlocks as a purchasable optionat level 10, or 15 successfully befriended wolves. Something like: Having encountered many wolves, you hear tales of one who could teach you to better read new wolves, at a price, of course. Do you wish to seek them out? and have it cost 250-500sc to unlock the ability to gauge a wolf, with multiple flavor texts, such as As you move to greet the other wolf, they seem to be judging you or Greeting the other wolf, they seem distracted by a butterfly or The other wolf's fur seems to poof up slightly as you greet them or Approaching the other wolf, they appear to preen a bit under your gaze. Maybe have four different flavor texts per personality category, with one being rather obvious and others a bit more open to interpretation

@ Orias  -- I really like the flavor text you suggested :O However, I'd prefer that this feature, if implemented, wasn't locked behind a paywall, even if only costing SC. But I definitely like the texts and the idea for having 4 per personality category. :)

Yeah I agree with this! You can make it into a puzzle and keep the element of challenge without making it entirely based on luck and chance. The one time I saw a NBW that I really liked, I lost her because my first move was incorrect - one mistake and that's it. I've also had an encounter just yesterday where I technically made all the right moves but apparently didn't choose all the most effective ones each turn, because the NBW still refused to join my pack and left. That is especially frustrating.

@Cucheallaigh -- Exactly, really annoying! That's why I think that this would be a good solution, while still being vague enough that it's not got a 100% success rate. :)

Support

I play a bit different from others

My reactions are based on how my own main wolf would be realistically
Sha is territorial and warns other wolves, often a loner that you can befriend, to watch themselves. She's seen as picky and protective. Wolves who are somewhat respectful, submissive and/or just avoid her are let be while others who threaten her or try to attack are fought and possibly killed

Having a flavor text could give enough of a hint for Sha and my other future wolves to better decide on how to handle a loner XP
But that's my end tbh

Support! I lost a pretty chased once because I messed up the first move, I tried to fix it but the wolf still left. Even some flavor text to hint "hey maybe you should try something for a friendly wolf, not an aggressive one" would definitely make it a lot easier to keep people from losing wolves they may want. Sure, we have auto-friend, but not all of us have 5 gc to do that when we see a wolf we like.

About using wiki/guides - I'd like to argue that one should be able to play the game without needing a guide like that. For me it interferes with game flow, and losing an NBW I might want just because the first attempt made them hate me is not a great feeling. Having a small hint blurb, or decreasing the effect of the first attempt or only allowing options that are not massive fails in would definitely help.
