Underrated Game Art

Underrated Game Art

I see a lot of love for decors and the wolves and the art that we all see constantly, but rarely for the more unappreciated art in wolvden. I'd really love to hear some of the game art that everyone else absolutely adores!

For instance, I really love how detailed all of the fish are. Every single one, for every biome, has it's own art, and it's not just the same basic fish shape with different colors, but wholly unique for each species, and really detailed, too! I usually only see each piece for a few seconds on days when I get fishing for a quest, and I'm blown away each time, and I haven't even seen most of them!

Also, my god, the variety on some encounter species. The different kinds of deer, enemy wolves, coyotes, and mountain lions, and over half a dozen individual dogs in a single piece for an enemy encounter, are you kidding?! Major kudos to the artists that made all of these sprites!

Yes, agreed!! The enemy variety is really cool, and something I really appreciate about it is that they change according to season. I think it's such a neat touch that adds a lot to immersion.
Adding onto the fishing thing, one of my favorite little things about the site is that if you're fishing while the time of day changes, the fishing background actually transitions to the next time of day. When I felt like it, back when you could only submit one fish per some amount of time (was it 15min?) I would sit on the fishing screen, trying to get the biggest one to submit before the deadline, and there was always some magical feeling to the time changing. I really, really like it, and I don't think I've heard anyone else talk about how cool it is?

Something else underrated I really enjoy is the artwork for items, like carcasses, amusement, and other craftable items. They're so detailed and gorgeous, and there's a lot of variety too- so many to collect, and it feels really rewarding to get one after a battle, expecially if it helps towards crafting something you want. Some of my favorites are the tails, pelts, and snake skins, I think they're rendered really nicely.
I also really like all the artwork for the applicators. It's a really cool style, and I like the personality that some app icons express. Like the Faelcu base applicator looks really devious. I'm always excited to see new artwork for the applicator icons.
