help with breeding!

i joined like a week ago and, by exploring a bit of this game, i've been interested with the subject of beeding. upon searching about wolf bases, i wanted to be able to breed some cool monochrome and muted dark bases because i think they would fit the theme of the pack. for that though i need a breeding male, and i have no idea how to get an appropriate one. i think that i'm more focused on high stats and high tier bases, but i figured it's probably going to take some time to find a nice breeding male that could fit my requirements.  i'm also really puzzled about breeding tier III bases, since, as far as i know, you need a pair of tier IIIs aswell to generate one, but how do you even get them in the first place?
well, with that said, i just wanted some advice on how to start breeding, how to get appropriate breeding pairs at the start of the game, etc.
thanks for reading, i hope it was understandable and i appreciate any kind of help! :D

Hey, I have some answers about breeding.

About being able to breed TIII bases: As long as ONE of your wolves is a TIII, it is possible; however, the odds are frustratingly low unless you breed two TIII's with the same base genetic, i.e. breed two monochrome dark III bases = good odds, breed a mono dark III with a cold medium III or a mono dark II x III = possible but bad odds.

The ooriginal source of TIII bases is actually something known as a base applicator, which is pretty rare (at least the TIII ones are).  But you can find plenty of TIII base wolves in the trading center.

If you want high stats, your best option is this: buy a cheap high stat wolf, preferably a young gen 2-3, without worrying about its base.  Then play the event and buy yourself a base applicator when the shop reaches tier 3.  This will give your breeding male a new t* base, which can make tIII bases, but with worse odds.  It's still a good option for new players though, because it has a small chance of passing the t* base as well.

I actually have a couple G2 TIII males that could use a new home, so I'm willing to spare you one if you want.

thanks so much for you help! this was very useful, and i'll keep note of everything. i appreciate your offer too, but i want to challenge myself to breeding the bases i want without genetics of other packs, even though it might take time.
about base applicators, i know of badger and caribou applicators; even though they are not dark bases, they are still muted and monochrome, which is useful for me. i imagine those are craftables and hard to get, but i was still wondering if it would be possible for me to obtain those recipes? and if there are any monochrome/muted dark t3 bases that can be obtained through applicators?
and about breeding stats, how does it work exactly? does the wolf has to have genetically high stats or does leveling up before breeding also passes good stats?
i will consider buying t* bases from the event too, thanks for your suggestion

I will warn you it is VERY difficult to get TIII bases by crafting.  The materials are rare and incredibly expensive--you have to get special "trophy items" that are about 10% drops from specific enemies--you're lucky to get one or two of the right trophy in a week.

There is another way to get a TIII though.  Sometimes you can find "chased" wolves in explore.  Basically these are wolves that have the same base and attributes of a wolf someone else chased from their pack, though it resets the stats and heritage (i.e. it may have been a 500+ pup, but it resets to low-mid 200's when recovered and is considered to be a fresh line).

The only way to get high stats is to breed parents with high stats.  Stats gained by training and leveling up cause the pups to be born with higher stats.  This is very frustrating to contend with, especially as a new player, and it can and does get taken to the extreme, i.e. it will take a lifetime for your starter wolves to get strong enough to get pups in the 300-400 birth stat range, but there are those who can effortlessly breed pups of 500+ because they've played for 2 years.  Then there are "superwolf" studs which people pay insane stud fees for and get pups over 1,000.  This is impossible to do without paying real cash, but unfortunately it exists.

All in all, the game is designed around studding and trading, so using wolves bred in another pack is the best option unless you want to wait a while.  And gen 1's always come with low stats, no exceptions.  You could buy a gen 1 wolf from the trading center.  Depending on specifics, they could get expensive but some TIII's are still affordable.

oh-- i had no idea trophy items were that rare. i'll keep that in mind and try another way if it's not possible to craft a base. i still intend on trying to get their recipes though, because i feel determined lol. and chased wolves will definitely help me if i can find any tier IIIs, i just need to level up my wolf first, which i'm working on.
thanks for your help with stats too. i think i'm satisfied with pups that have around 300-400 stats for now, and i'll slowly work my way to something better.

hello again. i have another question. why do people usually prefer low gen wolves for breeding?

Low gen wolves are more popular now. It depends on what each player is planning for their den to look like or breeding goals.

I personally want to restart my pack with low gens and muts, so I've been buying G2-3 mut wolves. I know others have stat projects were they want to breed high stats every generation, so thats another thing to take into consideration when breeding.
My girlfriend is the one that told me about the high stat projects as shes doing one herself and convinced me as well to try lol

Another reason is that people want to sell pups for as much as possible and low gen pups have a better value. There's a lot of things that go into play, but I'm thinking those are the primary reasons for players

Yeah, the market is better for low gens if you're planning on breeding for selling. If you don't care, then it's not as important.

I find it better to just collect wolves that you like when you first start, then start planning or see if you want to start your own project. Once you know what you want to improve or have in your pack, it'll be easier to look for those wolves or breed towards them rather than following the market because it changes often. There's also a crazy difference in how expensive items are in the market yet wolves are so low-balled, watch out for that too
