Suggestion: Item to "spay" Wolves

Posted 2020-12-28 09:40:14

A wolf's fertility can not be lowered below 1% with the Juniper Berries, so they can still be accidentally bred - it's just more likely you'll have time to remove the request or realize you've made a mistake if using your own stud.

Support. I've said before that induced infertility would be cool for lore reasons. I'm not somebody who writes lore, but I know a lot of players on here work hard on making interesting stories for their pack. If they could write that their female, say, fell severely ill and lost her fertility, and then could use an item to actually remove that fertility and restore it years later etc? That'd give RPers/writers a lot more immersion and flexibility IMO.

99% of players will never use the raccoon wares item to remove a mutation, but that doesn't mean the item shouldn't exist just because it wouldn't be used frequently.

Support! I don't breed my wolves very often and many of them will never have pups. The new snake breeding quest is incredibly annoying. I'm tired of buying fodder females so I can keep my bloodlines in check.

An option to make females you know you'll never breed infertile  will be super helpful. It'll save a ton of SC in the long run. Besides, the fertility snake needs more items to sell.

I don't really see the utility here. If you have a small pack, it's easy to decide/remember who you want and don't want to breed. If you have a large pack, then it's a pain to go through and set toggles for, say, 50 females, and it could lead to accidents in the other direction if you accidentally toggle off someone with valuable heats. (In a large pack, I can imagine someone accidentally toggling off a valuable t3/special breeder and just plain not noticing until months later.)

support for sure

as a couple others have said: just because an item won't be used often, doesn't mean it shouldn't be added at all. There's always gonna be SOMEONE who wants it out there, and those who don't want to use it can just, not

I think it'd be a cool addition (if the effects were irreversible) if using it could also extend a female wolf's lifespan to a full 8 years, eliminating the random chance at dying every year after the current 7 and a half (I think it's that?), similar to how irl, spaying a dog often increases their chance at a longer life

It would be nice if it was also reversable. More like "birth control" than a spay. After reversing the "spay," the wolf goes on the same cooldown as if they were bred.

It's been a while since I commented so I want to weigh in a bit again.

I've seen some people talking about the toggle. That you could accidentally turn on the "no heats" toggle and it could be inconvenient and may not notice until it's too late., but it is also inconvenient for people who don't want to breed their wolves and may not notice until it's too late. Even worse, if we do accidentally breed our wolf that we didn't want to, there's no way to undo it. We can chase the pups once born but that may be upsetting for some people for lore purposes, personal reasons, etc.

I do prefer if it was a "birth control type" item myself tbh. That could be accidentally applied to any wolf on the item's page, but no more than you could accidentally apply any other item (sages, marking applies, etc). So you'd just have to be extra careful.

I also think they SHOULD have another icon there in place of the heat if the item is applied. And maybe they shouldn't be tradable until it's been reversed (or the item to undo it needs to be insanely cheap, like 50sc or less)

I think this is really a small item that won't affect the majority of players tbh. Like the osha. Most people won't actually ever use it. But the people that need to use it will REALLY appreciate it

If there was a big flashing sign that said "this wolf is sterile"... that'd be okay with me I guess. but I would be really frustrated if I wasted cones on a female wolf that wasn't breedable.

I would rather support toggle option Volinolona suggested, than permanent spay. Because, I have to agree dabnis (he/him). Since I as well have seen how these items become an serious issue. Where rare traits etc are hoarded by selected few who only sell 'spayed' animals at lower prices as they are complete useless for breeding, and only way to get the new/rare hoarded traits is either pay overly large sums of money from it, or get really lucky. It just end in drama and trolling. I hate to be such a negative voice but I'd rather not see this particular drama in Wolvden too. So toggle to hide heat icon is probably better idea.
