Ping Users Watching Your Trade

Hi devs!

So I'm experiencing a slight frustration. I have 5 wolves up for trade atm that if don't sell, I'm just going to chase, BUT all 5 also have one or more users watching the trade. I want to keep the trade up because the interest is there, but also no one is acting on that interest and I want the wolf gone. I understand why the identities of those watching your trades are hidden, but I want to message people and let them know that this is their last chance!

So I propose a (hopefully small) feature: The ability to send a short message to all users watching a trade.

Spam could be prevented via setting a limit on the pings, like maybe once daily per trade, or only once or twice during the entire duration of the trade existing. The message could also be short, with say a limit of 150 characters.

Anonymity would still be preserved, as the one sending the ping wouldn't be able to see who got it.

I think this would be beneficial for both sellers and buyers. So for instance, I might put "Going to chase tomorrow if doesn't sell, offer anything!" This would allow buyers an opportunity to know the trade would soon be going away and act accordingly, and allows sellers to escape the "to cancel or not to cancel" conundrum.

This could also be useful if the trade title is no longer accurate... For instance, I might list a wolf in a trade that says "Male pup" but as he grows older, that would no longer be accurate. I'd like to fix the title, but if someone is watching the trade I don't want to do that. I could, in this case, ping the watching users letting them know that I'll be listing the wolf again under an accurate title, so they can re-watch.

This would include some coding, but I hope it wouldn't be complicated.

- Arcadia (#1119) Related to this, users watching a trade should also be notified when an offer has been placed. i think it would be valuable to know when you might be outbid, so to speak, so you can make a counter offer. i'm basically describing an auction, but the features already exist for an auction to be possible, so that extra step would make it much more streamline. right now, it feels as though "watching" a trade is only a means of bookmarking it and being pinged when it's no longer available.
to wrap it back around to pings in general, the trade poster should have the ability to alter the buyout or send updates to watchers when the trade is going to expire soon for whatever reason.
one last thought: if a user doesn't want update pings as i described, perhaps there can be a "subscribe" toggle!

I would like a more complex trade area, so I support. 

Sounds pretty useful, support!  Similarly, I often want to lower my price when I see that people are watching but nobody's buying/offering, but I always feel bad that the only way to do that is to cancel the trade without any way to let the watching people know that I'm planning on re-posting it.

Support! I am also interested in the ability to ping others who are watching my trades. I agree with the point you made about chasing the wolf soon but it would also be useful for taking down the trade to lower the price and many more reasons. :)

I keep most of my pups for sale just until adolescence before I cancel the trade and chase them, so a way to alert those that are watching the trade would be really helpful.

I’ve had trades up with 3 watchers, and no one acting or offering. This is perfect idea to preserve anonymity too.

Often times I'd have people watching my trade and never offer so it'd be nice to just ask "Yall still interested or?"

I was honestly thinking about this the other day as I cancelled one of my trades with 2 watchers and chased the damn wolf. Being able to anonymously ping the watchers a small message is right on track with what I was thinking, too... like I'd just wanna tell them that I'd be willing to accept any offer haha. 

High support, I've had to pull and chase a couple wolves I had up for trade because I just didn't have the space to keep them, and they had at least one watcher each. A nice little *ping* would be great to be like 'hey, last call!'
