Leaving after successfully befriending a NBW

In explore I was claiming a wolf and after befriending them I changed my mind last minute and tried to leave but when I clicked that button a message popped up that said “Too late for that!” which was frustrating because I no longer wanted that wolf. My suggestion is to make it so you can leave even if the befriending was successful.
