Written extract done for fun!: The atmosphere which had settled upon the frosted undergrowth was unusually still, a gentle breeze winding its way through the dense woodland as the morning dew rippled and sparkled in the light of the burning sun. Birds begun there chorus morning songs, fluttering above the tree line in groups of 3 or more, there songs echoing out and bringing yet more life to this once solem land. Yet, despite this beauty, there was a shared feeling of unsettlement, like a numb sensation in the pit of ones stomach, or the slight anticipation before something was to occur. For Denki, this feeling was only making his nerves more pronounced. The young bachelor had been training for this day since he was a pup, his every move calculated, engrained into his very being. Upon his body rested a gentle Glaucous coat, flecks of light blue and grey rippling like gentle waves through the wind. With eyes of a subtle olive green, he flicked his attention back to the shape before him, a figure he knew all too well. A roe deer. With slow, delicate motions he lowered his stocky body down to the floor, ears like satellites as they turned and flicked on there axis, pinpointing the Doe's motion, and the direction he would have to take to reach them. From the air, though still he could smell the fresh trimmings of grass the Doe was nibbling on, its head low to the floor and its breath emitting small plumes of smoke. The birds had since fallen quiet, as if watching his every move. Awaiting his first steps to maturity. For Denki, this hunt was his final test of independence, and if he returned successful, he would be blessed with the Alpha's howl, a mark of a truly matured wolf, and allowance to move from this homeland in search of a new haven to start again. Shakely, he shifted his weight to his back legs, before springing into action, his body extending fully as his front paws kicked up dust. Immediately his eyes latched onto there target, saliva dropping from his open maw as his paws thundered against the dampened earth. He needed to get as much space covered as possible, his back arching as he took another leap forwards, propelling himself at a tremendous speed. Throwing its head back, the doe screamed out in alarm, its hooves pattering the floor as it turned on a dime, heals inches from the snapping maws of its attacker. Trees, branches, shadows flew past in a blur, Denki's ears pinning to his head as the sound of the wind in his ears caused his head to twitch, focus not once leaving his target. Paws bellowed against the floor as he kept up the chase, maw open as plumes of warm air drifted in a trail behind him. He had to end the hunt, and soon. With a sudden leap, he propelled himself forwards, his thighs burning up as his front claws gently caressed the fur of the doe, jaws open wide before his upper canines sunk deep into the creatures rump, the force alone enough to stagger them both as they collided, throwing one another to the ground. Panicked, the doe kicked out, its hooves scratching and beating into Denki's eyes and chest. The pain was evident almost instantly, yet it wasn't enough, his maws opening a final time before finding there mark at the doe's throat, a sickening crunch leaving it as he watched her body go limp. At first, he just stood there, his legs wobbling, eyes wild, ears flicking and his breathing erratic. Excitement, worry, confusion, hunger, all rushed to his brain as he was left in the dust, yet, as he continued to take long drawn breaths of cool air, he begun to smile. He had done it. He had made the kill. His head was thrown back so fast he thought he would pass out, a deep rooted howl erupting from his maw and his ears pinning back, the sound of his fellow packmates soon rippling back to him from afar. The smile never left his jaws as he turned back to his prey, bowing his head in a subtle gesture of respect to the fallen, a prayer passing by his lips as he blessed the spirit to ascend the Astral plane. "May Rakul guide you. May you pass by his gates, and smile upon the sunrise"..... |
