A Little Christmas Story

A Little Christmas Story

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone! Unfortunately, this morning I woke up to a not so nice Christmas present. One of my handsome young pups had passed away after taking a leap off a cliff. I was upset, but I knew that it must've meant something special, so I wrote him up a little story in his memory. Just thought I'd share it here in case anyone wants to read and maybe celebrate Mosi as the years go by because the little guy deserves it :)

Here's a link to the pup if you want to visit him

And here is his story

The littlest Christmas spirit.

It was early Christmas morn when one of the packs tiniest pups, Mosi, woke up to the sound of jingling bells. There was no sign of intruding wolves, but the noise was like something he'd never heard before and it put little Mosi on edge. Unsure of what to do he valiantly attempted to wake his packmates, but they were much too tired from their day spent exploring and hunting, and refused to wake. Mosi, brave as a bear decided he'd go find the noise himself, and set off into the blizzard to search for the source of the strange sound. The snow was bitterly cold and the wind howled, blowing drifts into little Mosi's snout, but the bells kept on jingling so Mosi kept on walking. After what felt like hours of marching through the densely wooded forest, Mosi reached the edge of a big cliff. His mother had told him much about the cliffs near their home, and how dangerous it was for wolves to be near them. But the jingling was coming from near the cliffs, and little Mosi began to worry that someone was stuck! "I'll save you!" He cried, racing to the edge of the cliff, only to see something he'd never expected. A mighty sleigh pulled by some of the largest deer he'd ever seen was flying through the valley!  Mosi was ecstatic, he'd found a new prey that nobody in hispack had ever seen before. He found deer, that flew! Excitement got the better of brave little Mosi however, and he made a rash decision. He decided he'd catch a deer, and bring it home to his family himself. The tiny one month old pup took a running jump, leaping from the cliff in an attempt to reach the sleigh. He fell a little short however, and tumbled down to the cliff bottom.

When Mosi awoke, he was flying alongside the sleigh. Had some magic saved him? He had no idea, but he was flying! Zooming past the sleigh, he reached the deer and tried to bite at them, only to find his mouth went right through them! No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't catch a deer. Frustrated, Mosi resolved to return to his pack and tell thdm about his strange adventure. It was getting close to morning, and his pack must surely be waking soon. Flying over the dense pine forests, Mosi found his mother and a few other packmates in a tizzy. They were looking for Mosi! "I'm right here! I'm home, and look, I can fly now!" He called, but nobody seemed to notice. No matter how hard he tried, dancing and howling right in front of his family, nobody could see or hear little Mosi. Mosi realized then, that perhaps he had died. He was a ghost, and nobody could see him. He had heard all about ghosts that sometimes showed up on Howloween, but on Christmas? Who had ever heard of a little christmas ghost! Mosi sighed, as the reality of the situation set in, and he began to weep.

Exhausted and ready to give up, Mosi walked himself back into the woods, still crying. He was all alone, and very sad and cold. And to think, he wouldn't be able to open the presents Santa Paws was brining him tomorrow! He had been looking forward to the presents, and now his brother was probably going to get them all. It was then he saw something strange once again. A large white wolf emerged from the blizzard, carrying many gifts on a sled he was pulling. It was Santa Paws! Mosi danced around them, sure they couldn't see him, but the white wolf watched as Mosi pranced around them. "What're you doing out little one?" Asked the wolf, reaching out to scoop Mosi up by the scruff, only for his maw to go right through the young pup. A look of recognition and sadness crossed Santapaws' face, as he stopped pulling the sled. "You can see me?" Mosi asked, grinning widely. The white wolf nodded, but was still frowning. "Are you a lost spirit?" the pale wolf asked, and Mosi shrugged. "I'm not really sure. I just woke up this morning, and there were a bunch of flying deer! I jumped to try and catch them and... then I was like this." Mosi explained, and Santapaws shook his head softly, a faint look of horror lighting his eyes. "Oh dear. Well, perhaps you'd like to deliver gifts with me little one? I could use a helping paw." Santapaws offered, and Mosi felt excitement bloom through him. "Of course!" Mosi exclaimed, marching alongside Santapaws all the way to his pack where he helped the white wolf  know just which gifts were for who.

By the end of the night, Mosi was tired, but so very happy. He'd given so many gifts to so many wolves! Before, he'd bee so excited to get his own gifts but now he felt even beter, he had been the one to help give all the gifts all the pups like him were so excited for! Alongside his large white sled-pulling companion, Mosi jumped into the big sleigh pulled by the strange flying deer. In the sleigh sat a large strange creature wreathed in red, with white fur flowing from it's face. Santapaws barked something to the creature in a language Mosi couldn't understand. The red creature looked over Mosi, a bright look in his eyes. "Well, it looks like we have a new member of our little team. Welcome aboard little Mosi." The strange beast told Mosi, barking in clear wolf-language and gesturing for Mosi to climb onto the sleigh. Mosi obliged, his tail held high as he curled up warm and happy among piles of shining presents. Sure he had no presents of his own, but now he had so many that he could share with others!

Now every year, when Santapaws delivers his presents to wolf packs around the world, he has a tiny little helper. A small Christmas spirit who helps to make sure everyone has the presents they want the most. From the fluffiest feathers to the yummiest meats, everypuppy woke up with the exact gift that they wanted. Some pups who stay up late to try and catch Santapaws catch a glimpse of a small spirit floating over their heads checking their dreams to see what gifts they want the most. The stories of little Mosi spread, and soon he became a name alongside that of Santapaws. The name Mosi faded with time, and soon he came to be known as the littlest Christmas spirit. Though his body and old name have long faded to time, his spirit and story live on, as he makes Christmas a wonderful time for every pup. He gives them the gifts he never recieved, and smiles down upon them as he watches the puppies shred the gifts with glee.

He was the bravest, proudest little pup.

He is the littlest Christmas spirit.
