Hello! I'd be happy to help you out, I've been playing the game since early access, with a little break of a few months.

Have you played Lioden before, or any other pet sims? Or are you totally new to this sort of thing?

thank you! i'd really appreciate some pointers.

i've played flightrising since 2016 (@vegetarian on there) but from what i've been able to tell so far, the mechanics of wolvden and lioden work a little differently. the whole genes and breeding situation has been throwing me off the most ahaha.

I can definitely help, I'm familiar with Flight Rising, though I stopped playing ages ago.

In Flight Rising, things are pretty cut-and-dry, so I totally get the confusion. If dragon A has Iridescent, and dragon B has Crystal, and Iri And Crys are both gem genes, then you have a 50/50 chance of either showing up on a hatchling, right?

Well, breeding on Wolvden (and Lioden) is a little similar, but also a lot different! Now, I cannot recommend Grouse House Guides enough, they make guides on all sorts of Wolvden things. Here's their guide on genetics: Genetics Guide

So, wolves can come out with any color within either of their parents' color groups, and any markings within their parents' marking groups. Sounds confusing, I know, so let me break it down:

Colors are divided into tiers and groups. For example, "Cool Dark II" would be the middle tier of the "cool dark" category. The current colors in that category are Denim, Lilac, and Nocturne. If one parent has Denim, and the other has Lilac, their puppy might come out Nocturne! Or either of the parent colors... or any color within Cool Dark I, as well. Colors come from a variety of places, ranging from custom wolves, breed-only, or Newly Befriended Wolves. Check the GH guide for which is which!

Markings are also grouped, but we don't necessarily get that information, as its only reflected in the site code. But basically, if both parents have low-tier NBW markings, the puppy will have the same. If they have higher-tier markings, the puppy can get those, or anything in a lower tier.

Eye colors are basically the same, with the exception of Heterochromia. There is a VERY small chance that if you breed a wolf with brown eyes to a wolf with blue eyes, you will get a puppy with one brown and one blue!

Basically, Wolvden has a much more complex system, which allows for the massive range of designs you see now. It's like Flight Rising today, with its expanded color wheel and dozens of markings, but broken into smaller groups, and with a lot more options for marking-layering.

Does that all make sense?
