Deep Roots: Beginnings

September 3, 2024 Game Year: 60 The plague scored through the pack. Only a handful of wolves survived. A young wolf, Aurus, was among the survivors. He was not one of the Alpha's Blood, but it seemed his ancestors had other ideas about his fate: the boy was related to Eos, and thus still carried on her line, was still one of Her People. The young herbalist, Jay, also survived the scourge, and stood by Aurus, determined to help his new leader rebuild the pack. They had always been a strong people, and they would be nothing if their Roots did not run Deep. In the midwinter, Aurus met a she wolf named Asha. Aurus had caught his paw in an ill-placed rabbit burrow and limped along. He played at being unbothered, of course—such was his way—but Asha saw right through him and offered a knowing, if rather amused grin. "Enough of that," she said warmly, "let me help you." She leaned against Aurus' side as they returned to Deep Roots' territory. Not long after, the pair would unite, and not long after that, Asha would bear their first litter. The first litter was born earlier than expected, while winter snows still fell and food was scarce. Viturin and Cece, the first son and the first daughter. Viturin was significantly larger than his little sister, who would come to waddle after her big brother with admiration in her eyes. Winter: Year 61 Aurus moved the pack into the mountains in the summer, once the pups were old enough. Slowly, Deep Roots began to thrive again. Aurus and Asha's pups are adolescents now, learning to hunt alongside their packmates. Asha, ever vigilant, continues to scout further north every day, learning about the lands and packs surrounding their home territory. A few wolves have joined the ranks of Deep Roots, aiding in hunting and protecting the territory. And, a most unusual find has occurred upon the land: a pair of wolves with glowing lunar pelts, with eyes like stars, have appeared. Stella and Luna, a mated pair, goddess and god, or so it would seem to those unfamiliar with the plane of dreaming. They live separate lives from the pack, but live with the pack they do, blessing their lesser brethren. |
