(Fishing) Icons for Significantly Larger Fish

When you are fishing, it is hard to tell whether your catch's weight is something worth saving or not. For example, you might throw away a fish because it is common, but if you knew that the fish's weight was actually a lot larger than normal, you would probably save it so you could enter it into the high score room. But without any indication that it is large, you wouldn't know that. Perhaps you could memorize that, but there are a lot of fish to catch to the point where it can get pretty overwhelming. My solution is an icon of some sort that shows when a catch is significantly large. Think of Pokemon GO: the game will notify you if the pokemon's size isn't in the average range. There probably wouldn't need to be a smaller size since there is no advantage to having a smaller fish, but I think one for larger fish would be incredibly beneficial and would make fishing a little more easier (and help people rely a lot less on memorization). |

Semi-support? I think that rarity matters more then size so idk. My strategy personally (and currently) is to keep a rare fish, and then if I can't submit immediately, I'll keep fishing; if I find a much larger fish of a slightly lower rarity, any size fish of higher rarity, or larger fish or same rarity I'll keep. So yeah, idk if I support or not, it might make it too easy? And there are going to be lots of spreadsheets and stuff to reference soon too. (I'm actually keeping a personal fish tracker atm) |

Yeah I can see your point, ultimately size isn't as important so I understand why people would think an indicator would make it too easy. A lot of Wolvden in general relies on memorization (explore encounters, where to catch certain prey, personalities, etc.) so I guess memorizing the size of the fish wouldn't be out-of-the-norm for Wolvden. But at the same time, I think it would be nice if they threw us a bone here so we wouldn't have to memorize everything. Even if I had a guide on hand, it would be a little annoying to constantly refer back and forth to it whenever I catch a fish. I'm sure I'd get used to it, but idk, I'd rather just know right off the bat if it's at least in the right range to be worth something. I think it's fair to disagree with me. Ultimately I don't think any of this even plays a part except for the weekly fish leaderboards and the delicate meat item, anyways. I personally think it would be beneficial, but if people disagree then that's totally fine. |

Size is useful actually in that if the fish is on the upper 50% of the max weight/size that fish can get, you'll receive delicate meat that can feed your wolves. If a player is having trouble keeping up food for their pack in other ways, then fishing can be a pretty reliable way to get a little bit of food to help make up for it. And for that, size is kind of important. Though I do think it'd be more an interesting factor to learn what counts as a large fish that'd give delicate meat per fish species over time than have it handed over with an icon. The way I play is if I catch a fish that's the same as the one I plan to turn in, I'll check their weights and pick whichever is heavier/larger. If a fish is rarer than what I have, then I replace it by proxy (since you get the legendary fish in your hoard). I would not mind something added underneath the mini-game active window itself that serves as a catalogue of fish you catch over time you can review at your leisure and keep track of which weights are worth turning in per fish, or even just a little colored dot or sparkles around the fish art to mark it is in a more 'useful' weight range for you, though I'd still lean on not having it or having to earn it in some way over time. |

Alright, I think I'm starting to see everyone's points now. I fished for a little more time and I can now see why people would think having an icon would be like "handing it over". The weights of each species are easier to remember once you play a little bit longer. So while I still like the idea of having an icon, I could also go without it. Thank you for all of your responses so far! A little catalogue would be nice! I like the idea of that, although I think I would like it better on a separate page rather than right underneath (unless the catalogue can be condensed more than what I'm picturing now). |
