Devotion & Destruction

You were born into this cruel world, without the ability to choose if you wanted to or not. It happens to all of us, the inability to make our own decision in our first seconds of life.
We just have to ultimately deal with it and do whatever we can with what we're given.
Some of us are born into the luxury of a loving pack, others, the fear of an abusive alpha. Some of us are born as natural loners, others, the anger of an exiled.
We don't get to choose. We never have. Until now.
- - - - - - -
Welcome to Devotion & Destruction! This is an on-site roleplay where you get to decide if you'd like to live the life of a pack wolf or a loner, or even conjure up a backstory explaining why your wolf is an exile or strives to destroy the three packs!
Speaking of the three packs, they are the three you can choose from (if you want to be in a pack, that is)! Here they are in greater detail, including the loners and exiles:

Crowskull Pack:
These wolves are ruthless, just like their alpha. They love starting fights and are relentless with the amount of stamina they hold. They are usually large, muscular wolves, and aren't very fast. They are often dark in color, varying from shades of grey to the deepest of blacks. There has never been a wolf recorded in their history having eyes other than red, orange, amber, yellow, or black. A lot of them proudly wear bright skull-like markings on their face, a tribute to their pack's origins. They live in the dark and gloomy Raven Woods, using the lack of sunlight to their advantage. They are the sworn enemies of the Swanfeather Pack. Good thing that Eagleheart territory lies between the two.

Eagleheart Pack:
These wolves are incredibly slim and lithe, weaving in and out of problems, physically and metaphorically. They reside in the flower-plentiful Lorikeet Meadows and are often adorned with flowers in their fur, usually in the form of a flower crown. They are usually all shades of brown, these wolves, and some can be slightly orangish in a way. Their eyes are all sorts of colors except for black and white, staying vibrant like the meadow they live in. These wolves are usually very docile and warm, often considered the peacekeepers of the lands. They try to avoid fights as much as possible, but when that's not an option, they still know how to save their skin.

Swanfeather Pack:
Don't let their sweet name deter you. These wolves can be as sadistic as need be if it ensures survival for their pack. They always think of others first (if they care about them), and take care not to overhunt in the Owl Forest, where they live around the Cormorant Lake. These wolves are usually lightly colored, shades of light browns and whites, and their eyes following this criteria. Blues, purples, greens, and whites are all very common eye colors with these wolves. They are long-legged and graceful, like their namesake, but can turn killer in seconds. They are the sworn enemies of the Crowskull Pack, but would never take the blame of leading a public assault themselves. Instead, they wait in silence. Either that or taking them out one-by-one...

Loners:
These wolves live on the outskirts of the three packs' territories, taking food as it comes, living an overall peaceful and laidback life. They make sure not to get involved in pack stuff because if they wanted to, they would join one themselves. These wolves are usually quite nice and social, befriending any other loners they come across. They come in all shapes and sizes since they are not of pack decent.

Exiles:
Wolves that have been removed from their pack, be it nicely or in a close-to-death manner, but it's always for a reason. These wolves usually wish the worst for the pack they were exiled from, and some even go as far as giving spy-like news to one of the other two packs that had nothing to do with their removal. Some join these packs and give them information from the inside. Overall, these wolves can be extremely powerful with the secrets they know, so most packs refrain from exiling them in the first place. However, sometimes it just has to be done...

- - - - -

Now that you know about the wolves that belong to these lands, which life will you indulge in..? Your fate is in your hands, young wolf. Choose wisely.

Madara | Swanfeather Alpha | Encounters: Derira (NPC)

Madara sat in front of the Cormorant Lake, studying the slightly rippled water with rimy eyes. Within a few seconds, he'd dipped his forepaw into the coolness and scooped out a thrashing Pike. It was a bit smaller than he'd hoped but good enough to feed a member or two of his pack nonetheless. He killed the fish with a swift nip to the back of its skull and picked up its now limp body. The scales rubbed against the male's tongue, and he grunted with displeasure at the feeling.

He padded over to the organized piles of prey, and he nodded to a few hunters that were chatting nearby. They dipped their heads with respect and watched their alpha for a few moments before returning to their conversation. Madara dropped his Pike with the other varying types of fish and picked up a chunk of meat, medium in size.

Flicking his tail, he gazed up at the lightly glaring sun. It was a very beautiful day, that of which had just recently started, and he intended on making the most of it. Spotting his sister who was not busy at the moment, he walked over to her and put the chunk of meat before her.

"Good morning, Derira." Madara smiled with his words, looking into his sister's pale, violet eyes. They twinkled with happiness at seeing her brother in a good mood.

"Good morning." She replied, taking a few bites out of the meat. It was pretty fresh and tasted of some sort of deer. What kind, though, she could not decipher. "What are you planning on doing this fine day?"

"I'm not quite sure yet, but it's not going to waste." Madara hummed, sitting down beside his sister. His ears ticked every so often at the sound of light chatter or the chirp of a bird. It seemed as if everything was calm and peaceful at the camp by the Cormorant Lake, but you could never be too sure in the Owl Forest. However, something told the alpha that he had nothing to worry about right now.

Tiger Lily | Eagleheart Beta | Encounters: N/A

Tiger Lily lapped up the cold water quickly, her cerulean eyes flitting to and fro as she took a quick, uncommon stop. As she lifted her head, her breaths came out in quick pants, those of which were broken with a shaky chuckle. The beta was on one of her very frequent 'adventures'. This time, she was headed towards the Eagelheart-Crowskull border, ready to check out the activity levels there.

She would usually have another wolf with her (most preferably her brother or a scout), but neither of those options had been available by the time she was ready to go. She was never one to wake up a wolf for her own needs, anyways. If they were there when she needed them, great! If not, then she could wait if need be.

Well, in this case, she just decided to go alone. She was confident in her battle skills, and she trusted that Alpha Gyrfalcon (NPC Eagleheart alpha as of now) would have camp under control by himself until she got back.

Tiger Lily took a few moments to inspect and lick her paws, making sure they didn't have any cuts or lesions of some sort. It could be a very common thing, given the activities she frequently does. The reddish-furred she-wolf took a deep breath before taking off in the direction of Crowskull's border. After a while, her tongue lolled and her light laughter filled the pretty much noiseless meadow around her, but her ears stayed perked and her blue eyes took in everything she came across.

Abalyne | Crowskull Guard | Encounters: Feron (NPC)

Abalyne sat atop a large, mossy rock at the entrance of Crowskull's camp. She gazed out at the Raven Woods, her vermilion eyes scanning the thick trees with a certain preciseness every Guard had. She was particularly drawn to the spots of morning sunlight dancing on the lush green carpet underneath the trees, something Crowskull wolves didn't see very much due to the common mist and thick canopy.

Clearing her throat, she looked over at the wolf positioned on a matching rock. That wolf was her brother, Feron. Hearing her noise, he looked over at her, amber eyes holding gentle inquiries.

"I didn't see anything of importance." She said quickly, since they usually only spoke when off-duty, or when one saw something alarming the other didn't. Feron's shoulders relaxed and he nodded, telling her to continue. "Eh... I just wanted to know how you felt about seeing the sunlight for once." An obvious exaggeration, but it was uncomfortably close to being true. "It looks beautiful."

"That it does." Her brother gave her a toothy grin, his necklace shifting with his loose movements. It consisted of a fairly-sized piece of topaz held on a thin rope. He'd made it himself, and he was quite proud of it. A ray landed on it momentarily, causing the orange gem to shine with a brief brilliance.

"Your necklace is going to bring in all sorts of scavengers if it keeps dazzling like that." Abalyne chuckled, flicking an ear.

"Well, I'd like to see them try to take it!" Feron retorted with a light laugh. Their interaction was cut short, however, when they heard incoming pawsteps. The two guards turned their heads towards the noise, eyes watching, limbs tense and ready to launch their muscular forms off of the large boulders.

However, they soon found that the noise belonged to a scout and two warriors who had recently come back from a hunt. Their fur was slick with either sweat, water, or both, for they had varying breeds of waterfowl in their jaws. They looked up at the guards (since they knew exactly where they were, being residents of Crowskull after all), and put down their prey.

"G'day, Abalyne!" One of the warriors called. Abalyne could not remember his name, but she could remember how much of a nuisance he was, always harassing she-wolves. She replied with a short snarl. While he was a higher rank than she, the female knew how much power a simple growl could hold. He mumbled something to himself and picked up his limp prize, walking past the sentries and into the camp without another word.

"Morning, you two." The scout, a small she-wolf, said softly. It was almost too quiet for the siblings to hear, but they didn't have poor ears.

"Mornin'." Feron barked back, and he gestured for the remaining wolves to get into camp.

(Sorry Tiger, but I’m going to have to drop down for the moment. Life is getting a little busy so I wouldn’t be on very much)

That's completely alright, @MoonHawk! Life always comes first (although we definitely don't want it to sometimes...). I look forward to when you will have time to roleplay again!))

Runaga / Swanfeather Beta / Mentions: Madara, Derira

Runa had been holding her eyes shut since the sun had just begun to rise. She was terrible at sleeping. Being tired was not enough to convince her body to get any rest. Every owl's hoot woke her, and every cricket in her den that chirped made it more difficult to get back to sleep.

The quiet sound of the Alpha and his sister conversing reached her ears, and she stretched her front legs out clumsily, then sat up with a grunt. She took a moment to scratch behind her ear with her hind paw before padding outside. The sun had already warmed the grass, and some kind of bird was chittering in the trees above her. Mom would know what bird that is, she thought absentmindedly as she approached the food pile.

Giving her options a sniff, she chose a partial stoat carcass and ate it quickly before walking over to Madara and his sister. "Hi. How's your day going so far?" Runa asked both wolves.

Madara | Swanfeather Alpha | Encounters: Runaga

As brother and sister sat in familiar silence, with Derira gnawing at her fresh meat, Madara's ears flicked at pawsteps growing near. He turned his head and saw his Beta, Runaga.

"Good morning, Runaga." The siblings said in almost unison, and they smiled at each other briefly before looking back at the light-hued she-wolf.

"As far as I can tell, we are both having a smooth morning. I caught a fish, and she's getting a full belly before going out to hunt." Madara said, his tail swishing against the green carpet below for a second or two before it came to a standstill.

"Well... what about you?" Derira asked the Beta, her head tilted like that of a curious pup. Her smile stayed, and curiosity came for a visit as she noticed a bit of moss and... was that a twig sticking up from the Beta's fur? The Huntress guessed with ease that she didn't have a good night's rest, and her violet eyes softened with concern like they so often did for her brother.

|Oriole | Loner | Encounters: Open |

The she-wolf stopped in her tracks. She had been following the Crowskull hunting party ever since they caught or scared away the ducks that would have been her next meal. Rather than going to a new scent, the Crowskulls had led her straight back to their camp, judging by the scent. The swirling fog made it hard to tell how close she was, but she saw something glint orange through the fog.

Oriole lowered her gaze and turned to walk off. Another fruitless hunt, another day she would come back on an empty stomach. Being possibly so close to the camp made Oriole anxious, but running was a last resort. It was loud and sure to draw the attention of any wolf in the area.

Abalyne | Crowskull Guard | Encounters: Feron (NPC), Oriole

Abalyne rolled her eyes and looked over at her brother. "Gosh, I just hate that guy. He thinks he can get his way with every she-wolf in the lands." She scoffed, flicking her pierced ear.

"You only speak the truth, Abby." Feron chuckled, ducking his head to lick his shoulder briefly.

The red-eyed female gazed out into the light fog that was easy for the normal Crowskull wolf to look through, and she noticed that as the sun rose, the sparkles of light that had danced on the grass slowly disappeared. She frowned and flicked her tail. However, she swore she saw something stirring the fog...

Letting out a quiet yet sharp whistle, she caught the attention of Feron, and she gestured towards the swirling fog that led deeper into the forest. The two siblings nodded to one another and turned around, climbing down from their large watchtower boulders. Working as a unit, they crept towards the source of the disturbed, cloudy substance.

Abalyne slightly hated how it dampened her fur the longer she was in it, but it was necessary. She was just glad that fog barely got into the camp, or she'd never be able to live in peace.

Feron nudged her flank and he pointed his muzzle at a dark grey and white wolf sneaking through the fog. He and his sister shared confused glances. Why would a Crowskull wolf be sneaking away from camp? Especially one we didn't see go out... They thought, until they caught the scent of the wolf through the watery brume.

Ah, a loner. Abalyne thought, and she moved away from her brother. In a few elongated strokes of her limbs, she stopped in front of the she-wolf. Rearing onto her hind legs, she parted the mist, which could've been quite a terrifying view from so close. Feron did the same, but from the rear, topaz amulet glinting with an almost sinister-like spark.

"Name." The dark-furred siblings said together. Back on all fours, they began circling the loner, swirling the mist. "Reason for being here." Their eyes met, and they nodded, closing the circle ever so slightly. "And all information you know of us."

|Oriole | Loner | Encounters: Abalyne, Feron (NPC) |

The wolves seemed to materialize from the mist, and Oriole found herself surrounded. She could not hide her fear as they reared at her. No escaping them now, and she figured answering their questions would be better than challenging their authority. These were two Crowskull wolves that knew what they were doing.

"The name's Oriole, I was just looking for prey to hunt and wandered close to your camp," Oriole growled at them, wanting to seem more confident than she actually was. "I only know that my mother was among your ranks, and I have no intent to know more." She wanted to leave without further questions asked, but she knew of the Crowskull's demeanor from word of mouth. She would be very lucky to run free so soon and luck was something Oriole had little of lately.
