[RESOLVED] Answers about the recessive gene questions.

Hi!

Got some questions about recessive genes? Worried they could be wiped? Fear not, WD testers and staff have your back! The question I posed covers quite a bit.

'A pretty simple question, but something I wanted to be certain of, given WD is still EA and therefore, bugs are scuttling around.

I recently bought the only two current wolves with the recessive albinism gene, and wish to make the male my lead. Is there any risk of his gene being wiped in the process, and if so, can such an error be fixed?

The albino that was born and sadly died was removed from the previous owner's dynasty, so neither of the parents list them as family, which I suppose means that there is no longer living proof they possess the gene they do till bred again. Is there any way it can be proven they possess the gene before they breed again?'

Answers, taken directly from my ticket:

'You're more than welcome to Modbox any future questions of this nature to ensure you receive accurate responses! :)

We can state with certainty that customising a wolf with a recessive gene (whether via applicators or the Grove customiser itself) will not wipe the gene at all.  Similarly, making a wolf your lead or breeding male will not wipe the gene, either.  You're completely safe to customise a wolf with a recessive gene and have them lead your pack or be a breeding male without worrying about the gene bugging out!

In regards to your question about proving that the pair possesses the gene, that would just have to be shown through breeding itself.

We hope that these answers help!'

Plus, further clarification from Piffle, who assisted with testing and more <3

'We tested this during beta testing and customizing does not wipe recessive genes.

I personally asked this to devs in our discord and, since at the time we got special tool to check for recessive genes, I was able to try and see that it doesn't wipe. If nothing changed (and I don't think it did) it's still like that.

The only thing that, for what we know, wipe recessive genes is chasing, because wolves reroll their stats and personality when chased and keep just their look and sex. But there is also the random chance to get another recessive genes, who knows!

I'm not sure about making a wolf with recessive genes your lead, but I don't think anything get wiped in the process (maybe just his level).

But to be 100% sure, modbox it or wait for an answer from admins (maybe add "need admin help" in the title of this topic so that they know to look at this)

Hope I was of help! :)'

I am worried about customising my Melan Carrier too. If I customise him, will he be re-rolled as wolf and loose his recessive genes? So, would the customization progress "wipe" the wolf too or not?

if you are both unsure, the most correct answer you will get if you modbox it. we're all new to hidden genes and im not sure how much changed during beta testing in those parts.

Kali, the Modbox states to take questions to the 'helpboard' which when clicked takes you to the waterhole :)

Whilst I appreciate the tip, this definitely seems the right place to put it~

True but this is a gameplay feature that regular players may not be able to answer. And since hidden gene's are.. hidden, mods and admin may be the only ones that can actually answer. Also this is a bug inquiry, which again, regular players are likely unable to answer.

Cant hurt to ask.

Massive help, Piffle, thank you for taking the time to clarify.

I did eventually take these questions to the Modbox for total clarification, and hope this post serves well for future, copied directly from my ticket;
