Their proud parents knew the kits would become great warriors, or a warrior and a medicine cat. Stonestep was not as enthusiastic about Aspenkit's aspiration to be a medicine cat, but he never told the kit to her face. By the time she was almost old enough to become an apprentice, Aspenkit could tell her father didn't completely approve of her dreams. What better way to convince him, she thought, than being the best medicine cat he's ever seen? A few nights before Aspenkit's apprentice ceremony, Aspenkit decided to 'wow' her clanmates by bringing back catmint, a herb Oakclan's medicine cat had been running low on. Knowing her parents wouldn't let her leave camp, the naive kit snuck out after dark. She found the catmint. A fox found her. The hungry creature stalked her back to camp, knowing there would be more juicy morsels if he followed the unsuspecting kit. As Aspenkit snuck back into the nursery, the fox made its move and slid into the Oakclan camp, heading for the nursery. As it got closer, Maplesun was awoken by the stench of fox and called for help, before attacking the much-larger fox solo. Warriors scrambled to attack the invader, managing to drive it out of camp, but not quickly enough- the fox had already killed Maplesun. Driven by grief and rage, Stonestep ran after the fox that had killed his beloved mate and tried to harm his kits. He hasn't come back yet, but no one has found his body and they're holding out hope nonetheless. Aspenpaw's apprentice days haven't been great either. She's glad she got the role she wanted, but it was at the cost of one or both of her parents. The other cats try to be nice to her, but Aspenpaw can tell that even her sister half-blames her for Maplesun's death and Stonestep's disappearance. Likes - The quiet -- Early morning -- Cats staying out of her way -- being a medicine cat apprentice Dislikes - Cats bringing up her parents' deaths -- Foxes -- Other apprentices, especially when they're loud and noisy
