" Well, Lazarus. You just might be the only person here that seems to even care, even if you dont know much about the royal lines. But i can indeed change that. For you and for me. " she stopped the two of them, even though the music was still playing and looked at him " Now I havent done with in a long time but-" she said leaning into him and  gave him a quick kiss before  letting go of him and stepped back nervous of how he would react. 

 Why did I just do that... what will  my father think she asked  going tot he edge  and turned her back to Lazarus. Giving him time to register on what she just did. " Lazarus.. please dont be mad... I just.. had to on instinct."

Lazarus wasn't sure what exactly that meant, as he didn't really know if it was too necessary to know a lot about royal lines, even if he kinda now was involved with one. That'd certainly be an interesting thing to tell his family about, whenever he would be able to, that is.

That thought was lingering for a good while, so when he felt Aster lean into him and kiss him, it caught him so off guard that he tensed up, freezing in his spot. That was... unexpected, to say the least, his face practically burning as he instinctively tried to look around and see just how many people might be staring, unease making a pit in his stomach.

"Oh uh, I'm... n-not mad per say." He muttered, finally managing to see how Aster had turned away, though he didn't move too much, just more tucking his hands nervously under his arms. Sure, he kinda figured maybe kisses were now included, though he still felt a little iffy just right at that second. Lazarus didn't hate it, but he wasn't one that particularly enjoyed getting caught off guard by something like that.

Asters father grinned at what Aster did. " Now it is time for Aster to  choose her suitor" He looked at his daughter and asked for her to come up

As she went up, her eyes fell upon Lazarus, and a tear fell down her cheek. She tried to think of what to say. But what she had planned and would say not only would lose her chance, yet again at a suitor, but her father would be angry

" tonight  has been complicated. If I may say" Aster began. " Love is a hard thing these days. For me at least" She eyed Lazarus with sad eyes " I will not be choosing a suitor this year. I am afraid that having just met this shy, yet gentle and kind person, I just cant be with him, for I only just met him today"

 The crowd was confused as Aster left the podium and ran off in disappointment

Lazarus shifted to curl his arms tighter around his abdomen, not sure how exactly he should be responding in this moment as really, what could he say? "Look-" He almost had figured out something when he heard Aster's father call her to pick his suitor, completely interrupting him and kind of ruining anything he could say to get a talk somewhat going.

He listened carefully, though he was a little confused once he heard that she wouldn't be choosing anyone, him or otherwise, which really he had been expecting. A certain sense of fear made his blood run cold because of how he kinda knew that it might not end well, especially when Aster took off from the podium.

Did he run after? Did he just leave to go home? The options swirled in his head, nearly giving him a headache as he took several steps back, more towards the shadows if he could, but it wasn't like people weren't aware that he had danced with her.

The argument between Aster and her father could be heard everywhere.

" Father. You cant boss me around anymore. I am 120 years old. I dont need  you to tell me who I can and cant choose. Thats not your place any more. Im doing this my way from now on!" she yelled at him 

" Fine then.  But if you dont find a suitor before the next red moon, you leave the palace for good and never come back, You hear me?" he said glaring at his daughter, fear and anger in his eyes

" Yes your Majesty. I understand"

" Good.  May this be a lesson to you" then he walked off towards the palace " Dont be late" he said without looking back at her.

Aster had dropped to the ground with tears in her eyes. Blurriness surrounded her. " What have I dont... " she said not knowing that Lazarus was standing not too far away  watching her 

" Im a fool to let this happen" She said to her self. Then Grace came to her and  embraced her when she noticed Lazarus " You must have been the one she danced with." she said with a sigh " I think you should go talk to her. Just.. be gentle, ok? " She led him to Aster and tapped her shoulder

" Someone's here to see you, my lady" Grace said and when Aster saw him, her face blushed " Lazarus...  please..  I wish you never heard that...Im sorry.. I made a total fool of my self in front of you and the others..." she  sighed as she played with the hem of her red royal dress. 

Lazarus couldn't sit there with the unease of it, so soon he started to hesitantly follow after where she went. This whole... suitor business just seemed so off, and more so when he noticed the argument between Aster and her father, though it wasn't his intention to eavesdrop with it.

He really wished he had better social skills, stepping back a little as he noticed Grace approach her instead as he had no clue what he should be doing. It was so different from his family, which even now with their own damaged people still are extremely close and would never yell at one another like that.

Lazarus had drifted into his own mind before he had perked up at the sight of Grace now addressing him, something he hadn't expected in the slightest. "I uh, um well a-alright but h-hold on-" He couldn't find it in himself to be able to finish saying he was bad at comforting people he didn't know really well, such as his sister or mother, but he never finished as by then he was already by Aster.

"Uh, i-it's fine, really uh... I-I mean, I've probably done worse..." He somewhat awkwardly stated, fidgeting with his fingers as he tried to think of what would be most appropriate sort of comfort. Well, with his sister he'd usually get her to laugh, but that was with lighter matters. So, instead, he shifted to sit down next to her, not too close, but not exactly far away either.

" Lazarus.. I  dont think its ok at all. I ruined my chance this year.. And I meant to say that you were my choice.. but I  damned it all and messed up. " Aster said wiping her wet face with her hand before looking at him " I think the best thing to do is just... go our separate ways til we both decide what to do. But here.. take this. " she said  reaching into her dress pocket and took out a piece of parchment that smelled of roses. " thats my address. I-if you ever want to  see me or write to me, that would be wonderful. "

She then stood up shakily before getting Lazarus o his own two feet. " Im sorry to have caused this heartache, Lazarus." and before she left him, she gave him one last kiss, a longer one than the one previous. " I hope to see or hear from you soon"

She slowly walked away, hoping he wouldn't want her to leave his sight. 

Lazarus honestly didn't think it was bad, and really it seemed so stupid that something like this had so much pressure, especially when all his life he was told love came when you least expected it, and it couldn't be forced either. However, he figured maybe she might be somewhat right about figuring it out, as there was no way he could just forget this and pretend like nothing ever happened.

He accepted the help up, even if he might not of needed it really, then watched as the parchment was taken out of a pocket, reading it carefully, and maybe slightly sniffing it because of the confusion that it smelled like some sort of flower. His confusion didn't end, as he aimed to speak only to be surprised by a second kiss.

Again, he kind of froze, but less so then the time before as still it wasn't something he hated, just rather unexpected. He really just nearly had forgotten what he was aiming to do, but remembered as Aster began to leave.

"O-oh uh, wait h-hold on." He stated, looking around as if trying to figure something out before he was shifting to take something out of a small bag. Lazarus was holding a few stationary items, sitting and writing something down on a paper, propping it on a new book that had a sturdy cover.

It took a few minutes, but he then picked it up and offered it over to the princess, "Uh, t-technically directions to my home. There is an address as well, if you might write, but most don't really head out so far out into the trails, a-and my home is pretty far in the forest. Any messenger might need it. K-kinda useless to send letters if the can't be sent back and such, or if you had to visit as well. I-I can't always leave because of the animals there..." He muttered, feeling it'd be unfair to just to not give any way for contact to go the other way around.

Aster  took his parchment " Thank you Lazarus. Im sorry it had to end this-"

Grace then came over " Your father said dont be late, remember, your highness? "

" Shoot... ill be right there, Grace. Just give me a few more minutes"

" Yes your highness" Grace said walking off

" Like I said... Im sorry this had to happen. If you wrote to me, Ill write back." she said  with a third and what hoped to not be, a final kiss. then ran off back to the palace

" Im here father.."  Aster said knowing full well what was going to happen. 

" Get all the chores done, including  cleaning the  horses harness and bridle." he ordered

" yes father" Aster said heading off to change and get done with the chores. All she hoped was that she would have time to write to Lazarus that night.

Lazarus watched after, shrugging a bit as in his eyes it really wasn't that bad, and there was no real point in continuing to make it seem worse than he thought it might be. At least this time, the kiss might be considered a little less surprising, making it possible for him to speak up again, "O-Oh, b-bye!" He called out.

He carefully started to head out towards where he left his horse to relax, though he did pause after a bit. Maybe... maybe he should write a letter right now, while it would be a quick trip to have it delivered.

This time, he did find a seat and table so that his writing would be as neat as his handwriting usually was. He honestly wasn't sure what he should write in a letter, but it was always easier for him to get down his thoughts this way.

'Aster

Sorry, I never really know how to go about these sorts of things. Social events aren't my strong suite, and talking is somewhat harder.

I never really got anything about these sorts of celebrations, but I don't think I'd mind talking really. I just can't always leave, I am the only one that lives at my house currently, so the animals can only rely on me to feed them and take care of them.

I'm not sure what else to say other than you can feel free to visit, or send letters. I don't know why you might find me interesting, but I guess my view is biased a bit.

It was simple, and maybe not the best he could do, but for now he felt that it would fit and he shifted to head to pay someone to take it to the palace before beginning to make his way home again. It was odd, but even with the mess that day had been, it did make him interested in seeing what else might happen.
