So during the migration to the Swamp, some wolves left (it wasn't a very big pack to begin with). And since you needed hunters to bring back food, and the pack always tried to welcome new wolves whenever possible, and they had more opportunity to meet new travellers that might want to join, what with moving around a lot, well, newcomers did join.

The issue... well it wasn't an issue per se. At most a temporary one, Inu would say (Bistre would say Inu could never resist a bright-eyed young wolf looking for an adventure, and that if you're looking for an adventure you're likely to leave again, and where does that leave the pack that's now one hunter short and has to learn to work together again?). But the fact is, if you put wolves who don't know each other, never worked together, and tell them to hunt in a climate they're not used to... well, the results are... let's say it could have gone better. The kind of better that would have brought back food, for example.
