I... guess I see why rechased are a thing. This gives every wolf the potential of two existences; those of site-generated wolves found as NBW and player-created wolves from breeding (do starter and Grove-created wolves appear in befriending encounters after being chased?). I wanted to say that removing rechasing as a thing wouldn't hurt the site's economy, but I don't have enough data. I have noticed a decrease in value for NBW; for example, Fox T3's go for around 100-150GC vs 300GC, other T3's are going for around 250+GC vs the 400+GC of a couple months ago. Het wolves have dropped from 50+GC to around 20-30GC. As chased NBW become more common, their value begins to get closer to balancing out with other generations, which is as it should be. No wolf should be 400% more expensive than a G2 of its own base. NBW will still be valued for their lack of linage, especially as studs, and other things will probably come into play such as markings or stats. I understand their purpose as a RNG "fail", as they're just not worth anything to most players. But later players will mostly take regular befriending encounters as a fail/loss, and the odds of regular to chased are, on average, 30 to 1, so it's already a rigged mechanic. When you add them being roughly half, if not two-thirds of the chased encounters found, the odds fall even further. If rechased are removed and the chased pool empties... okay? Chased encounters become more sparse, but at least each one is a win. You're already dealing with the RNG as you click the "Befriend" or "sweet smell" option; having to deal with the likelihood the game will then select a rechased is another hit to the player. **Also, snake quests can ask for you to befriend a wolf, which is going to exasperate the issue as people grab a wolf to complete the quest and yeet it back out. I've had to do this because I couldn't wait to starve the thing out because of space issues. |

But really. The chase wolf feature was never designed for r/c which I think tends to get forgotten. |

The reward of getting a clean lineage rare wolf shouldn't be easy to obtain by any means, regardless if they end up adding an alternative method to permanently delete a wolf instead of chasing them. |

R&C is already a hit or miss, since I'm guessing roughly half of the wolves chased are lost before they hit the pool, and then can be lost by failing a befriending encounter. Site-generated wolves will always exist and always be generated, and many do not differentiate from one to another. They are there as starter wolves and building blocks. I do think the linage-shunning is encouraged by R&C, but that would probably be a factor regardless. People will always find a way to place value on wolves (or any virtual, sellable pet), and less chased means a wider price difference. This can be desired or hated depending on the player and how they enjoy the market. I think rechased will always be a thing because the mechanic is already there and it's not breaking anything, it's just annoying and already a mechanic given to me with regular NBW encounters. But that's my biased opinion and how I enjoy/don't enjoy the game. p: I am interested to see how the site's economy goes, as higher-valued chased are becoming more common and as such cheaper. G2 and up are also decreasing in price. Will it continue to tank until it's too much, or will it cycle back around to less desire for clean linage as it becomes more common? Edit: I think the way to solve it is with a wolf-sink the same way Lioden's kill/nature reserve or the Enclave works. Otherwise, like I said, right now I'm usually having to starve wolves out, especially for the snake quest. |

I know one of my other posts likely addressed support for another way to relieve ourselves of the IDs and pixels, in order to be accurate/dry [light humor]. As players, we would not want to burden someone with something we no longer require for achievements/goals/projects/insert-other-appropriate-word-here. As to value, I have been amused more than once about how something Discovered cycles in and out of the Collective Consciousness. This amusement extends outside Wolvden and is not meant to be disrespectful, but is an observation nonetheless. Due to the myriad of ways we can enjoy the game, I am not surprised the new factor remains strongest, as everything else ends up subjective. I noticed quite a few people did not like finding event eyes on the Chased Record thread. I personally prefer eye genetics on this game as it is less frustrating than dealing with the marking genetics. That being said, it's a trend. They also mention thinking the raffle stud markings weren't worth much. To me, it's almost more time-based, and isn't even focused on much, if at all. When I am looking to replace the slot in my pack, I will readily buy a wolf for 1,000 SC. If I'm not seeking a goal, I'm not exchanging anything for a wolf. The slot is too valuable (though mainly because I can't level them; and for some people that concern is food/mood based instead). But impulse comes into play, too. And I get that. I have impulse-purchased a few wolves from, say, the Enclave after its introduction or the TC or threads on Chatter. I need to circle back here: to me, picking up a chased wolf can be no different. We want to adore them, I think, and that's entirely fair. It can be a rush, too, to see the purple star icon. In terms of removing certain wolves from the chase pool...? If I am aware of a suggestion thread for that, I'll offer my cents there. Here, I am fine with our current limitation of if they've been chased once already, they can't be chased again. The previously discussed/mentioned "problem" [for lack of a better word coming to mind] will be eradicated once we get more feasible [possible to do easily or conveniently] options implemented. |
