Development Update #12

Posted 2021-08-25 18:53:58
@Katze - Thank you for alleviating my fears. I greatly appreciate it. I was concerned because it seemed like this would be a new feature that makes it difficult for people who don't play all of the aspects of the game. I didn't want to be "punished" just because I don't choose to breed a lot or have bunches of pups around all the time, etc. But now that I know we are only given quests that are possible to complete with what we have at the time, I don't think the game will be impossible to play anymore! Thank you!

@Lionel Yes and no. The skull let's you skip all 3, if you don't complete any. So, like right now, I'm stuck with a puppy quest I can't complete. Because I may technically have a puppy, it's not one I'd want to give up.

So, I'm still not a fan of the puppy quests. It's bad enough I basically can't do enclave quests at all, cause I'm not a breeder, now I gotta watch out for random snake quests.

I'm sorry about the wall of text, I have a lot to say. Feel free to skip, but it's kind of a summary of what other players have been saying here, so hopefully it covers all the bases.

I like the new update in some ways, am concerned in others. The vast amount of recipes is pretty cool. Variety for decor is always appreciated, and it gives players something new to strive for. Helps make use of items that have been sitting around too. Love the new birds, especially that Scaled Pigeon in the Rainforest. I don't know if I'd use much of the decor since I'm not really a dress-up player, but still, can't go wrong with more choices. The other stuff is neato too. My OCD really appreciates new, reasonable achievements lmao. Just wanted to acknowledge that I don't hate this update or anything.

While I like the new questing system, it has some concerning aspects to it. I'll go from the least worrying to most.

For one, the 'Complete _ trail hunts' I believe it's called? If they're specific on the SIZE of the prey, I'm not keen on that. Like, I love that it's no longer focused on successful hunts, that's great. But all I ever go for are large trails, and my hunters are great at catching them. Only going for big game also helps level them too. I don't want their time and hunts wasted on getting a bunch of critters or similar for the sake of a quest. This is something I can deal with, I just don't like it.

Two, I'm not sure I like the 'Craft _ item from your hoard' quest. As one player mentioned, not everyone has small recipes that can be made. If all they have is Sentinel for example, they'll be forced to make it or skip the quest entirely, if I'm not mistaken. Or if they're like me, they couldn't care less about decor. I don't want decor cluttering my inventory, I'll never use it - but the quest asked me to make it. I think it was mentioned that medicines count towards this, which is... weird, since there's already a crafting medicine quest. But if that's true, I'll definitely focus on medicines instead. At least I use those.

Three, breeding wolves. I don't like that quest at all. Some players never breed, and they shouldn't feel forced to just because they have a wolf in heat. That wastes extra food, that requires a Nesting Material, and that slows energy for a wolf that might have an important role. There are other reasons this can be problematic too - very specific breeding plans, plain never wanting to breed a particular wolf, or ones like mine where I'm trying to 'sync' all my females' heats, so I'm purposely skipping days to get them closer together. Also, I thought breeding in excess was discouraged? This kind of goes against that ideal, doesn't it? Either way, some people don't want to breed their wolves every time the heats come up, if ever, so they'd pretty much have to skip it or go against their plans they have in place.

Four, the enclave quest. It's nice that it only accounts for if you have a pup available, but like has been mentioned, what if you don't want to get rid of that pup? What if you never partake in the enclave period and only want to sell pups on the market? I guess just be very careful about breeding, and make sure you'll always have a fodder pup at the same time as the pups you actually like, so the fodder pup can take the fall for you? Or just suck it up and use a skull, and hope you don't get it again? I really hope this quest doesn't require multiple enclaves at once, because that would be even worse. I just feel like this quest shouldn't be a thing, more than any of the others.

Five, which connects to both the breeding and enclave quests. (And potentially others.) It's been mentioned that the enclave quest accounts for any pup in the age range - does that mean if you have a pup you won't use for it, and you're really unlucky, you'll get this quest multiple times in a row, over a few days? For a pup you already planned to keep? What are you supposed to do in that situation? If you're forced to use a snake skull, is it possible to reroll the same quest you're trying to avoid? This can connect to the breeding quest too since it might reroll it because you still chose to have a female in heat. This really worries me.

In conclusion, I like the new variety to the quests, and I know the worrying ones have a chance to show up, but some of them still need tweaking in my opinion. Or, alternatively, have the breed/enclave quests be toggleable, but that should be for the suggestion thread. I don't want this post to be all critical, because I do like some of the changes. Thank you guys for the update and here's to all the collectors who are salivating at the plethora of new recipes they have to collect lol.

I've got a question about how skipping quests works. Let's say I pick up an easy, medium, and hard quest today. I do two of the quests, but the third one is something I don't want to do (e.g., breeding a wolf), so I just don't do it.

Tomorrow, can I pick up a whole new set of three quests? Or do I only get two new quests and the breed-a-wolf quest sticks until I do it? Or am I just completely stuck until I complete all three quests or they expire?

@Lionel Your basically stuck with it till it expires, I believe. Which is 24 Hours from the time you start the snake quests. Basically where I'm at atm.

I'm thrilled!

I have a huge pic of the Angel Oak hanging over my couch. Now I can have it here too.

QUESTION: When can we get new quests from the snake?

I finished the medium and hard quest yesterday, then today had the option to take new medium and hard quests or complete the easy quest from yesterday. I chose to complete yesterday's quest. Once I did, the option for taking any new quests disappeared altogether. Now it says I have no new quests available.
