Development Update #14

But honestly I'm more worried about these remnants…. I don't know about other players and I understand everyday we get new players who don't have the huge hoard some of us older players do. But is getting a good amount of items to be able to play and craft that hard?? Again as I started before, crafting wasn't a thing in EA so certain items like blue jay feathers I have a ton of. But because of craft-able items like the Fox Base recipe I just won't use fox trophy's for play, I immediately burry them. I guess this weird little tick of mine is what bothers me about these remnants, I know which items are most commonly used for crafting so I don't see them as play things. Having to now start a new little "hoard" of remnants just seems a little tedious, especially for players who've already been playing for a while now. Now we all have to play with our wolves, right now, to be able to craft anything?? And I just want to be sure, I have to play with my fox skull to get a remnant of it, to then be able to craft the recipe now. Sorry for long rant Katze, I'm glad we're trying to update the feeding/playing. And if you're as upset about the remnants as I am, just think they are like an equalizer, yeah we all have to start collecting remnants of everything now but after awhile I'm sure it'll be like second nature. How I understand it, as you take care of your pack you'll start collecting more and more. |

However I think it would be better if all items, or at least all amusement items, could have remnant forms introduced immediately rather than when they have a crafting use introduced, so as to reduce user confusion. It's pretty rare to have food items become craftables, we only really have eggs, growth chunks, and a couple different carcasses, but with amusement it will be much harder to remember and I think this will frustrate users who don't have everything memorised and accidentally use up a valuable trophy thinking it will spawn a remnant. It might be better to make remnant forms for everything right off the bat rather than making users remember what does and doesn't spawn a remnant. Edit: it would also be a good idea to make a 'crafting' item category that's solely for remnants. Would help prevent inventory clutter. |

I can see the appeal of remnants, and i know a lot of people will like this. Is it possible to make a way we can still use full use items? I have a tiny pack and needing to use up my amusement items before i can craft can take days. Ive always used full use items for crafting so this is going to make things a lot harder for us with smaller packs. I do like the addition of remnants, because it does make some things easier. I can now save growth chunk remnants instead of being sad i have to lose them because i didnt collect enough in time, for example. This addition is very much appreciated, and id like a way to use full use items along side it if possible. |

Unsure about the remnant system, but I think the idea is good. It seems like it will get better with time. A solution to having to use the item to get the remnants is just to let players turn items into remnants from the hoard, as another user has mentioned. |

Feeding is slightly more convenient. As others have said, I don't feed my wolves based on species, but on age. I want to eat all the food that has two days left, then all the food that has three days left, not all the walrus pups and then all the whitetails. However, I do think that I fed my wolves slightly faster than I used to, so I guess I do like it? Amusement was so so fast, it was a dream! I had like a million single use bones to get through. Remnants are, in general, a good way to deal with the way some items are both amusement and crafting mats. I'm not super crazy about the fact that I have to fully use a crafting item in order to be able to craft with it, though. It means that I unnecessarily played with some RNC wolves just to have usable versions of my essence-covered feathers. But I suspect this is a 'problem' that will solve itself over time as used amusement items accumulate. It would be really nice if it was visually apparent which items would drop remnants. As of right now, I think the main way to figure it out would be the item catalogue? There are some misgivings I have about splitting the crafting/playing items into two. If I want to be able to use an acorn in the dreamlands, I assume I need to have an unused acorn, but if I want to use it to craft, I need to have used it as amusement? It isn't that clean or intuitive a system. Lastly, feathers. Of all the things I play with down to one use, most of them are feathers. Since we can't use remnants to craft nests, this will basically not change anything about how I use the feathers. All it means is that I can no longer use my feathers to craft ANYTHING other than nests- at least, not very easily. All in all, I think this is a really exciting update that maybe has a few kinks to work out, but generally feeling really positive about the direction we're going in! |
