Development Update #14

Posted 2021-12-24 00:32:10
Anyways, here's a "hack"/pro tip for those of you with small packs at the moment.

Buy potato pups or get pups from the enclave, since adopting goes toward achievements, and use them for remnant making since you can have waaay more pups than adults. Even better is getting female adols since they also count as pups and you can sell them for more on the TC once they hit 1 year and go into heat.

Also if you use sick wolves, their mood decreases by double every RO, so if you only got them for crafting, they'll run away faster and you only have to play with them until the hunger makes them leave.

Also forgot to mention on the sick wolves, if you get a bunch of them that are undiagnosed, you can give your Herbalist soooo much exp. Like I'm talking 800 - 1000+ plus here. Plus you can always chase after RO and get new illness wolves to diagnose again. So sick wolves (especially pups/adols) are useful for multiple things at once.

Plus while waiting for pups to contract illness, you can pup train them with hunting teams that you need to wait to send out, so they get a good chunk of exp too, especially if you train for 3 hours at a time. Which is a good use for excess hunters as you can train a team or 2 back to back until they have no more hunts left then switch out and do the 3 hour training with them. That way the hunting teams are getting 100+ exp per session while waiting to hunt.

Finally got to try out the new feeding system. Overall it does seem to save a lot of time, particularly for smaller-use items. Still a lot of clicking, but much less excessive navigating than before. And the old way of feeding is still intact, too. Amusement is much better now, love how easy it is to get that part out of the way!

I do still hate how your lead is at the top of the dropdown though, you can't even feed them with the new feature if they're at an odd percentage... I was really hoping we could put our lead at the bottom of the dropdowns so they would get out of the way, since I literally never want to feed my lead when explore will take care of that for me.

Maybe it's just me, but remnants almost feel like a smaller carry-over of the original idea for how processing was going to work. Like an added step that forces you to switch an item over to a separate version of what it already was. I hope the normal items can once again be accepted for crafting purposes, especially since that would get rid of the issue of needing a guide to understand what items have remnant forms. The clutter from them in my inventory makes me wish they had their own tab or something, or their own area within crafting. Sounds neat that food-based remnants won't rot, makes the craftables more accessible and, for better or worse, will probably make them drop a lot price-wise. If they're merely prioritized instead of required, I'll be fine with them.

Anyway, those are my two unneeded/unwanted cents. Love that caring is less stressful now, thank you!

Edit: I'd forgotten that remnants can't be used for nesting material, only remembered because Vethale's comment below. They should absolutely be used for that, it's kind of ridiculous they can't be.

So, it's been a few days since the remnant update and wow. I've come to realize that's it's actually a downgrade. It's well intented but oof

First of all: apparently not all items give remnants, as I've now managed to destroy a bunch of lunar amusement items and other rare amusement trophies (which wasn't even mentioned in the update). How am I supposed to just know which amusement items give remnants and which not?

Second: it's inconvenient for crafting. You can now only craft with remnants, so even if you have 100x of the items in your hoard, you gotta play with your wolves first to get them. An absolute pain for smaller packs (especially considering how wv punishes players with larger pack by increasing the daily chores. F)

And third: it's actually useless. It doesn't even work for nesting materials, so you still have to leave feathers a 1 use if you don't want to waste larger items

All in all, staff had good intentions but clearly didn't think it through and this new update actually makes it worse. Is there a way to remove it maybe?

The way you know which things drop remnants is the item catalogue, which is terrible design because, yeah, people should be able to expect that if a gray fox tail drops a remnant, an arctic one will as well. But instead we all have to look through this list.

I think it's not an active downgrade, it could work well, it just needs adjustments. But as far as nesting mats go, yeah, that's a bad way to make it work. Using feathers down to one use is still the best way to get nesting mats, and why? Just let us make nests out of remnant feathers, guys. Please.

Yeah, having to use the item catalog to make sure you're using the last use of remnant dropping items is a pain on mobile

Feed and play from stacks are nice, but regarding remnants I have to agree with what many others have said: it actually makes crafting more difficult. I think the intention is nice but some adjustments need to be made.

As always, thanks for all your hard work.

When I feed from stack I often get the "This wolf is not that hungry" message. At first I thought it only happened with my leader and when the hunger % was an uneven number, but now it's been happening several times a day with different wolves who have even hunger %. Right now I'm trying to feed a wolf who is 80% full with 2 food uses and I get that error message.

EDIT: Done with today's feeding, it was a nightmare. I think I got the error message with 5-6 wolves in total and had to switch between feeding from stack vs feeding from the item.

stack feeding is a literal life-saver, but I feel that remnants should be able to be manually converted, even for a small fee, if it absolutely cannot be free. I keep my pack numbers low for the reason of me being able to keep track of my wolves, so I can't convert everything and have to wait quite a few days.
