• Ayy, Cycles is in heat! Ya know what that means… pair-bonded and bred her and Jyn, because breeding projects don’t care about such petty things as space and limits.
• Edit: Uhhh wait, looks like Jyn’s rollover count reseIT’S BECAUSE I LET HIM RUN, NOOOO. Ah well, stud it is then >:V I’ve kinda been eyeing Gray Smoke for Slot 1 (and I don’t need to make/keep another 2-mark White Shaded atm, 3 or bust from here on) so I’ll go breed her to a stud with that. She already has a marking in Slot 1 so 50/50 chance lesgooo
• A’ight now she’s bred (or at least has a request out, probably won’t be long). Next heat, Jyn, next heat….

• Bada bing, bada bred! Anyway, returned to Andesite getting an open wound and Liesl leveling up, nice. The latter is at 592 stats at level 16, what the heck!!

• . . . You know, I keep looking at melabean and snow boi and I’m like. :^Tc I kind of want snowboi to be the next breeding male?? He’s Tier I but also not inbred, high-stat, and low-gen, plus I don’t have to spend a single gosh dang penny on marking applicators or opacity changers. Not expecting an influx of stud requests either way, would just be a passive income thing never mind that this has been an option for Diorite all along but shhh, But Basically I’m thinking that the value of melanistics is only gonna go down with time, never mind an inbred one with Moof in the lineage twice (thrice, if you go back a gen). High stats with no leaderboard relation, though? 👀.
• I WILL THINK ABOUT IT, Diorite has like 1.5 years to go still anyway. It does kinda feel like a shame to have a melanistic woof and not Do Anything with him, though :Vc What do, what do….

• Aaand mange on Carcass, holy shit. God, why is that more jarring to look at than distemper?? …Were it not for the contagiousness I might almost be tempted to keep it on him, because it looks kinda sick (ba dum tss), but nah. Cured away~

• I just wanna mention real quick, despite being two members (including the Dedicated Specialized Finisher) down, Hawk’s Eyes is still doing pretty well?? They’re still picking up and successfully catching small trails?? I dunno with what frequency but that’s what I like to see >:3

• Mange on Carcass… 2!! Was it all those comments about open wounds being invisible? Was Carcass/the RNG just like “you want a visible illness? HERE.” Does Carcass just want fuckin’ mange, forever, for the aesthetic??? Damn, you, red dog. Here’s an image, compare/contrast with the invisible open wound (from ye olde page 6/January 14).
• In other news, I feel like it’s been illness city over here lately, especially with the hunters?? But who’s running the numbers. Whatever. Cured. Stay that way >8V
• something something can’t name a dog carcass and not expect bugs but 1) that is tempting Fleas, which are (also!!) Do Not Want, and 2) his baby nickname was Ketchup. Do you have bugs in your ketchup? I sure h-ckin’ hope you don’t have bugs in your ketchup I am not sleep deprived I swear, and man sometimes I wish illnesses were more interesting than “temporary health nuke, scrounge for cure, Not A Thing” but ah well.

• This has nothing to do with gameplay but a couple neat things I noticed recently (neither of which are related):
• First, if a wolf has been bred, its family link will persist even if the wolf is dynasty’d or deleted. Example of the former: Drove was #407226 onsite and #124640 in the dynasty. Example of the latter: Wickfen’s mom has been deleted from the site and her name redirects to the homepage, but her family link's still kickin’. Wolves who get yeeted without living pups return an error message. Makes me wonder what happens if a wolf’s offspring all die and aren’t saved, and neither is the wolf; does the family page also get nuked?
• Second, the fact that brachy carries are incredibly rare, and don’t live to adulthood like melanistic and albinistic wolves (so while the prices will drop over time it probably won’t be by too much, relatively?), means that they’re almost guaranteed to be inbred. I think. Unless a buncha people get together to check a ton of NBWs, which they have, but Them Dogs Die eventually so it really has to be an ongoing effort. Point is, horrific* pug pups get to be inbred bastards like the actual breed, and that is so fucking clever from a mechanic-real-world-correlation perspective I’m mad I only just realized it.
  • *Obligatory disclaimer, I got no beef with real dogs or their owners, never mind on Haha Silly Wolf Site, but also brachycephaly is an anatomical nightmare (link is an opinion article from a veterinary student, nothing graphic) that really makes ya Think. That has been your daily dose of Why Must Man Play God :D

• In other news, Drucks’ latest litter weaned. Never got around to putting them up on the sales thread but into the TC they go…!

• Lichen open wound from hunt, bluh bluh always cured. Stocking up was a mistake actually because Micah never does anything but forage anymore… >:V

• I only got the scarcest taste of the event earlier but MAN HOLY FUCK. In one (1) full night session (roughly 45 minutes, with frequent recording), this is the most non-lore fun I’ve had since joining, AAAAAAAAAA. Beating all those enemies kicked Diorite up from 66% to 85% in a single session, lmao; I’m fighting literally everyone I find for those sweet sweet tears (#WolvdenOutOfContext) but they’re actually not that hard anyway?? And I only used a Lucky Foot like twice, at 0% energy for a vast majority of them???
• As a side note, I have literally just about* never used a single Healing Salve in my entire time here (*userlog says I used 2 on the 31st, darn), and then blew through like 43 in that one go today, to make sure Diorite’s at 40+ (46 max) each encounter. No wonder they’re in such high demand >:o Thank you, past me, for being a hoarding cretin (gifts and tips notwithstanding), because now I got a comfy 545 onhand still. 1089 uses total. We love to see it.
• Anyway now I’m kinda tempted to say Diorite and Esker have just been straight-up gone this whole entire time, to the point where maybe the pack has considered them both dead? It’s been like a year (customized Andesite in Spring Y5; it’s Summer Y6 now, god) so we’re pushing it, but it seems entirely in-character. Could also explain why it’s been so dang quiet around here.
• In other news, Husk has been finishing for Hawk’s Eyes so long that the automatic dropdown just puts her there and Moulin in the first hunting slot. She’s not even gaining proficiency, but she has the most experience compared to the other two (a whopping zero finisher hunts each, minus Carcass’ solo adventures). Amazing.

• Another round, another good haul; Diorite’s up to 97% now, fuck yeah. But dangit, fresh outta Lunar Essence; I can get up to 41 more today, sooo fingers crossed for regular exploring when energy regenerates >:o
• Last round for the night: YESSS leveled up Diorite!! Collected 81/100 of the day’s Lunar Essence, which is Unfortunate but what can ya do. Maybe I should use up all my energy in the waking world and then go into dreamland next round, since having 0 energy seems to have a negligible effect on battle difficulty?
• Use counts: 96 Healing Salves, 16 Lucky Feet. Won 35 battles, lost 3 (lvl19+16 Charged Grizzly, lvl17 Volukros Eagle) and retreated from 1 (lvl13 Volukros Scout). Also take a shot every time I typo “Volukros” as “Volkruous” or “Volkrous.” Gained uhhhh -throws stats from the encounter log on a spreadsheet real quick- 13,568 EXP, nice! That’s over a fifth of what Diorite needs to level up to 19 (40,924); this event has been a godsend in the Motivation to Battle department.

• Literally had a dream about waking up to polymelia so that’s how many levels of Wolvden I’m on apparently. Alas dream did not come true, but Cycles’ pups are certainly, uh, interesting (complimentary). None are keepers but they all inherited a ton of markings >:o
• 57% survival chance each, oof, and the pupsitters are stretched kiiinda thin…. Thankfully Andesite’s pups hit adolescence in a couple rollovers, but still.
• -forgets what the fuck I was breeding for- WAIT wait hold up, nvm, we have a potential keeper: she unfortunately didn’t inherit White Shaded, but third pup got gray smoke >:O It doesn’t even look like ass at full opacity! Nice!!
• Woof, can only get them up to 97% since all three 100%-proficient sitters are watching 3 pups each (57+33=90%), but I’ll take the risk.
• Ooh, keeper pup has Very Low fert 👀 That’s what we like to see. Maybe I’ll pair her up with Jyn instead, since there’ll be not one but two rolls for Shaded? Anyway her name is now Seven Billion because it was the first one to get stuck in my head again.

• Quick lil (semi-)lore thought: $melabean takes an interest in Micah, as the fellow (near-)black wolf here. Whereas Liesl “scouts” as a diplomat, mela scouts for herbs—a task Micah has previously undertaken solo, with only occasional help from Wickfen when the latter was hunting solo. While mela doesn’t show any particular interest in taking over as herbalist, Micah is grateful nonetheless.
  
• Also, Micah is 4 years old today. That’s like, 40 human years. My boy is middle-aged, nooooo.

• In any case, the lore tidbit miiiight be setting up mela as next herbalist? Or it can just be a trivial developmental Thing that happens. We’ve had two black-based healers and I don’t plan on breeding Micah (herbalists get such a short end of the EXP/usefulness stick, it’s such a shaaaaame*); it’d be neat if Dark Wolf Healer just casually became a Thing around here. Esker may or may not have some belief or another about dark night spirits having mysterious/mystical associations too, which would line up with feats of herbalism for a society without science.
  
  • *For the record, at level 10 with 292 starting stats, Micah’s only hit 419 total. Mela, at level 8 with 331 at start, has a hefty 401. Comparing a bred scout to a G1-line herbalist might be a lil unfair but still.

• Have not been doing the event today in a feeble attempt at Self-Motivation™, whoops, but ayyy snagged some Bear Fangs from the tundra.

• WELP thing done, aaand I had just enough time to nearly get Doirite beat up by an owl (1HP left, christ) >:,D Have some numbers for the day.

• Man, I am glad that Essence stacks. Hopefully I can get stuff done early tomorrow so I can actually Participate again >:V I say that like it’s not 100% on me and my ever-struggling executive functioning

• Anyway, no pup injuries to report today, and I apparently caught the week’s biggest Goldeneye (a whopping 2lb 14.96oz) so what was cool! Guess catching the smaller fish pays off sometimes; I don’t max out the 100 every day since it takes too long, but extra SC never hurt.

• Woohoo, got in one more round before classes—although alas it didn’t last the full night since I ran out of essence. Got a buncha encounters in anyway (~18–32% EXP, hell yeah) and I can still collect up to 93 LE today, so :3c

The quest snake is being a fart and asking for a Caribou Bull Carcass, which I’m pretty sure I can’t catch (large trail?) and of which there are absolutely none in the Trading Center; I’ll check tomorrow morning but otherwise I’ll just let it expire. • In other news, it breaks the Minecraft theme, but I kinda wanna call the snow son Shrike. Does he have the eye markings to match? No. (Does Andesite wear it better? Arguably!) Would the Jackdaws have ever seen this bird in their lives? Not necessarily. But dammit, it’s not every day I actually think of a name, and I guess if anyone’s gonna be bestowed a Birb Name it’d be a lead pup. (Sorry, Husk. • …Just realized that Moulin, at level 10, has slightly more strength (74) than Husk (72), who’s at level 15. No wonder the hunting dropdowns originally suggested him for finisher. I’m keeping Husk finisher anyway for ???lore or w/e, but every single day this website gives me a bruh moment,,

• Liesl catching up to Diorite’s level again but he’s at 18 with 79% and counting, so I think he’ll stay ahead >:3 Have I mentioned this event is an EXP/battling godsend? This event is an EXP/battling godsend.
• It has also dawned on me Diorite isssss possibly going to die during or shortly after next month’s round, so. :,^D Wonder if I can’t incorporate that into lore somehow.

• OH SHIT THAT’S ENOUGH FOR THE BASE. NICE. My completionist ass kiiiiiinda wants to see if I can’t wring out 360 more (lel) to get it and the eye/nose/skin/claw applicators in one fell swoop, though. Maybe, since it carries over, I’ll do that during next round? I don’t actually have Plans for any of them, I just like letting valuable things collect virtual dust in my virtual storage and decrease steadily in virtual value forever.
• *Math machine broke; I have 21 instances of +2 LE and 17 instances of +3, but that adds up to more than 100 and I definitely did not max out :thonking:
• Lost battle yesterday was a level 19 Charged Eagle; retreated from a lvl20 Charged Eagle and lvl11 Pherris Vagabond. Today’s loss was a lvl12 Volukros Eagle; retreats were lvl18 Volukros Scout and lvl11 Lunar Ram. I am like, absolutely totally going to do something with this information. It is obviously extremely relevant.
• Maybe I just need a new spreadsheet series for event logging _(: 」∠)_
• I very much feel like something is not adding up in the EXP department here, but also Diorite’s already at 93% so I have absolutely zero complaints. Two more days, juuust under one more level….
• Final observation: This is probably a ridiculous and unsustainable rate at which I am burning through Healing Salves and Lucky Feet, especially with this being a monthly event. But, as I’ve mentioned before, I literally never use them otherwise, and I might not need to go quite so ham every single day in future reruns depending how my LT profits stack up. We shall see; those of us present will, in the future, bear witness to the result; etc.

Daily Fishing Leaderboard Prize!

• BWUH???? I didn’t even max it out… goddammit, see I should be happy about that but now I just wish I’d checked and subsequently fished more to get a higher rank >:V Ah well, nice surprise regardless.
• Less nice surprise: glaucous died 8( RIP to a real one…. I have no lore for this except that She Old (actually outlived the other dynasty wolves thus far by half a month) and definitely did that thing old pets do where she just wandered off one day, out of sight, and when they found her welp. Not so much as a goodbye—but she definitely wasn’t senile because she kept hunting to the end of her days, gaining over 50(!!) more stats since hitting lvl20. All of it was in Strength, a testament to her unexpected but very welcome skill as a hunter. This is way more than I wrote for Drove or Hallow and I feel bad; she will be sorely missed.
• …Aw, oof, that also means the starting NBW squad is officially no more :,,) The next-oldest wolves (by how long they’ve been in the pack, not age), right after the leads, are the “second generation”: Husk, Carcass, Micah, Wickfen… god. Also it looks like Esker will be next to go, but he’s got over a couple weeks yet.
• Shrike, though still young, is eager to lend a paw. Although his littermates left, he didn’t feel so capable of solo survival (Humble personality), and would very much like to give back to his home pack. It is unanimously deemed “too soon,” but Wickfen reaches out a tad: no, trust him, you do not want to have to hunt at that age (emphasis on the have to), enjoy your vague training and adolescence while it lasts. But the whole party/pack appreciates his enthusiasm, even if they’re having a little trouble showing it.
• Liesl, for one, doesn’t understand the sentimentality, but whatever. (No grief only repression and wanting to Move On ASAP with her.) She tells Shrike that, for the record, she does want adolescents to lend a paw more, and while it’s good he didn’t butt in after the gentle refusal, don’t let it dissuade him. (Shrike kinda just goes “???? no one asked but thanks??”, but he’s probably used to this from Liesl by now.)
• melabean just feels kinda out of place because he hasn’t been here nearly long enough to Get It. But since he came in on the heel of Drove and Hallow’s deaths, so the morose atmosphere isn’t new. He goes out for another scout to clear the air.
• Also, I feel like Moulin would’ve avoided the sad parties much as possible too 🤔 He was upset about uncle Drove and Hallow for sure, but like mela, he hasn’t quiiite been here long enough to viscerally Get (or feel fully included in; notice he hasn’t taken the Hawkeye surname) the older community vibe. Like, good for Shrike being the son of the leader and all, but not everyone can just feel at home seamlessly as Lichen.
• Oh yeah, this loss would hit Lichen especially hard, wouldn’t it? :,) With apologies again to Drove and Hallow for not having the time to dramatize their deaths like this (which is a non-apology but you get the point), I roll to make the pack varying levels of sad and/or uncomfortable.
• In any case, hmm, seeing as the Jackdaws have been inadvertently forced to downsize courtesy shaded breeding hell, methinks this tight-knit feel is also dissuading most new wolves from joining. The days of random NBWs seem to be over, at least for a good while; Hallow was out of nowhere but had his reasons, and Lichen had an established relationship before joining/revealing herself anyway. (Oh yeah, she’d also be on team “Shrike no grow up first bb.” She’s Been There.) She’s passed a message along to Jackrabbit, in any case; if he wants to come back at all, which is totally not the thousandth time she’s suggested it this year, finisher position ready to go whenever. Jackrabbit thinks she missed the entire point of his character arc.
• Anyway, for some reason the auto-dropdowns put Lichen in finishing, which is Abject Nonsense especially because Andesite still very much has the best stats for it. I guess the stalking role takes precedence?
• …I tried to think of more Lore Stuff, specifically how things have been going between Liesl and bro (and tbh Jackrabbit’s probably changed his name by now, but Names Hard and all that), but all brain could churn out instead was “does Liesl Aspen is girlboss?” and I think that’s a sign to go do non-Wolvden things.

• Holy shit, this event did a number on the SC:GC ratio; was still around 700–750:10 last I checked, now the lowest is fucking 880:10. Just snagged some lower trades for 75:1 but aaaaaaaa, I know it’s inevitable but I’m still >8T about it.

• Anyway, Esker x Drukqs litter hit adolescence today. One of the fodder puppies (red) got cough (symptom: Cough) and has been mercilessly yeeted. Another one (shell) also hit adolescence, has thus outlived his purpose, and he is pretty but bye.

• YO found a tier 2 (Dravite) NBW with Cape! Total non-carrier with meh stats and doesn’t match Hte Aesthetique, alas, so I’ll sell, but still a cool catch. Anyone reading this thread has first dibs with the cavest I need to clean out my inbox; feel free to comment otherwise it’s TC and/or someone’s buy-to-breed thread first thing tomorrow.
  • edit literally minutes later: I have wandering eyes and no impulse control so he’s been offered now :V That said, the “first dibs” thing can totally apply for future catches and/or pups I don’t want to keep, wink wink nudge nudge.
• He would have a Malicious personality, though. I don’t have the spaaaace, and possibly won’t for a good while, but I’m hoping next time I actually recruit a NBW to keep, they got an interesting personality. And by “interesting” I mean “antagonistic maybe.” I have no plans but it’d ~jazz things up~ ;V
