Wolves Forever in the Snow.TW: Religious themes, cannibalism, cults, child abandonment, misc. The world has begun again. Modern civilization crumbled, the lands destroyed by the acts of greedy men wanting more, and life was forced to start anew. The last of dying species were forced to evolve and adapt, and as the surviving animals began to change, nature finally took over. New vegetation broke through the old grays of the roads and concrete, brick became tall walls of creeping vines, and trees changed to survive. Animals became dominant over the earth again, and began to thrive as they were no longer hunted to extinction. The air was clean, the water crisp and cold, and the world green. With the new age came the resurrection of an old predator; dire wolves. While not the same as the first of their kind, they're larger than their ancestors - a combination different wolf species having mingled together for the best chance of survival- created the variety of wolves seen on the planet in current times. Varying crosses have settled in different biomes of the earth and repopulated, developing different traits for the best survival in their selected territories This pack is of a tundra and arctic wolf cross, with smaller traces of former species in their ancestry, though those two are the dominant. Their legs are long and their coats are thick and heavy, weighing them down if they were to get soaked, creating sturdy wolves built for power and endurance over speed or swimming prowess. With thick double coats they are able to handle the extreme colds of their northern home, as well as feel comfortable in the warmer seasons. While they can handle hot weather and survive easily due to their coat, they've developed a habit of complaining about any heat, and usually spend the heat of the day in freshly dug holes or the depths of their cave dens. Life is hard up north, and in order to survive some extreme measures were adopted into the culture of the packs living there. Not every pack practices such traditions, but it is not seen as uncommon or taboo in the harsher climate. Sometimes, there are too many mouths to feed and not enough to go around. Runts, mutants, noisy or annoying pups, or ones just deemed too weak for the pack are taken out and left in the snow for nature to take its course, and somewhat used as bait for other animals. The lucky are taken out quickly, or are abandoned when they're still too small to remember, or on rarer occasions they're found by another wolf and adopted. For the packs that feel a little extra spiritual and have made up their own religions, there are live sacrifices, and unfortunately there are times where it ends up being a pup born in a crowded season. Such is the life of the northerners though. |
