The title of 'Chief' is typically bestowed on an elder wolf, one who has survived every trial the harsh landscape has offered them. The title is mainly one of great respect; one that can be lost rapidly if said Chief makes poor decisions that lead to loss of the pack.
It's not unheard of for an Chief to be challenged for their spot, however it is a rare occurrence, given the amount of respect necessary to hold the position. For a successful challenge to be made, the challenger must be a wolf held in the same regard as the current Chief. If they're not, the pack may choose to intervene with the Challenge, ostrasizing the dishonored challenger until they can re-earn the trust their packmates once had with them.
Young wolves who challenge for the position are particularly looked down upon, and depending on the severity of the offense, may be driven completely out of the pack.

environment

Moon Caller's domain consists of two main bodies: the Overworld, and the Dreamlands.
His Overworld claim is located deep in Alaskan territory, a shred of land carefully hidden from the prying eyes of any seeking it. It cannot be found on any map or even the most experienced of guides; only those invited or very, very unlucky find themselves walking into it.
Not unlike Cyclone, the land is also touched by a severe and not-uncommon storm system. Surrounded on all sides by an everlasting blizzard, even those unlucky enough to stumble into the cloaked territory don't often survive it. Passing through the blizzard will find you in a 'bowl' of sorts, surrounded by icy peaks on all sides. Various iced over lakes and rivers spatter the territory, though it's most notable feature are the ribbons of lights that streak the near constant night sky.
As for the Dreamlands, all of it falls under Moon Caller's domain. It is of his Creation, a word he made in defiance of his Creators -- Noc and Solus. His Pack is able to enter and exit the Dreamlands, often using hidden paths and tunnels to make their way across vast distances that would otherwise take them years to traverse. However, they don't often linger within it - the rules of reality are far too easy to bend, and that way leads to Madness.

➳ things to Keep in Mind
➳ does moon caller have a feud with Noc, the Creator/Night?
➳ what is the story behind the creation of the Lunar Realm // is it Moon Caller's domain, or Noc's? Or was it created so Moon Caller would have a domain free from Noc's gaze?
────────────────────────────────────────
Moon Caller was created by Noc, who tore out his own eye and gave it a consciousness. When Noc decided that Moon Caller wasn't living up to his expectations, he never let the God forget it - using the everlasting night to constantly snarl at the God. Sick of the abuse, Moon Caller used his power to create a second realm - the Dreamlands - where Noc cannot see nor speak to him.

➳ 24 hours of darkness? like alaska
➳ building off that thought: maybe there's a chance that wolves can stumble into the lunar realm, especially those lost in blizzards
