His father was considering it. His father was actually considering the proposition! Kieran could see the look in his father's eyes; cold and intent to anyone else but there was a sort of gleam in them that could have been blamed on the light's reflection but Kieran knew. His father was considering it and that did not bode well for him. It is true that he wanted peace much as Hushy had said but this was not what he had entailed when he had spoken of peace. Again, Kieran was in no way a stranger to same-gender love but he had never allowed himself to act on it outside or inside the castle walls. His father had eyes and ears everywhere and the goddess forbids if he disgraced his family name one way or another. But this was different! This was a marriage on a whole new scale. Two completely different kingdoms on two completely different spectrums joining like this were something he had never even thought to imagine the possibility of. Rhys seemed a little more panicked in comparison to their father which gave Kieran some sort of comfort. At least his brother seemed against the idea too.

"This is absurd, isn't there another way we can settle this? A trade of sorts that involves goods or something. Shared roads that connect our kingdoms-" Rhys spluttered looking as if he were grasping for straws on his brother's behalf. But Kieran knew just looking at his father that there was no trade left on the table acceptable enough.

The second prince swallowed and looked over at the Regnum heir. The look of sheer helplessness in his eyes was not something an elf of his caliber or heritage ever showed but it was there. 'There is no other way, is there?' his gaze seemed to say as he slowly slumped back in his chair.

He blinked a moment to gather his thoughts before grasping on some sort of control within himself to speak. Ignoring the other conversations going on around him he broke through and looked over at Solar and the others. "I will not walk into a lion's den without conditions. I am the bargaining chip so if this is truly what you want for your people then will continue this negotiation. Not my father." his jaw set a little bit and he refused to look at his father even when he felt the sheer coldness from him and the feeling of a shock coming from his brother as Kieran rose and rested his hands on the table in between his family members.

"Even now I'm still your fucking scapegoat. Every goddamn time." he growled directing it at his father but he did not hide the poison in his tone; he knew the others heard him and he knew his use of language was not fit for a prince but he was far from caring at this point.

Straightening up again he crossed his arms and stared across the table. "What will this marriage entail? You obviously will not have heirs produced from this match to continue on your linage. So what is the end game here supposed to be? Marry off the two sons just so war would stop breaking out between the nations? Is this an olive branch saying you're willing to expand and learn from that outside of your kingdom?" he tipped his head.

"It's fair to say though you would have an army at your disposal seeing as I am the commanding general in my father's army so that's that. But what else is there to it? You only fight because we pushed you otherwise you do not care as long as you have people falling at your feet like gods that you are not. I feel like there is far more than what you are letting on." he added frowning

He didn't even begin to want to go into the arrangement of what was entailed within the marriage contract and who was going to live where. It would be unbearable for either of them seeing as they were so different.

The people aligned with the Sun king were stunned speechless at prince Kieran's words. Even if they were all being addressed, they knew that Solar wouldn't put up with such a bold tone. His words were insults to their realm. He'd be amused by it at most.

Solar somewhat turned his nose up at the Kesal's second heir, taking a glance at his own son. Ori wasn't looking back at him, giving his hopefully not potential betrothed a distaste gaze. Saying that the court didn't consist of gods could get someone beaten to a pupil in their kingdom. It was such a strong belief, the court didn't see much need or a point in showing off their abilities. They were above that after-all.

"Your military prowess doesn't interest us, we have our own army to sustain our needs and whims. Producing a blood child through this marriage isn't a requirement, since such things wouldn't exclusively be up to us. A horse does not pull a cart unless it can." Hushy answered on behalf of Solar again. His metaphor was referring to unfit parents and the readiness of taking on such a responsibility. Ori wasn't ready for that, he was still considerably young and so was Kieran.

"If you cannot keep control of your tongues, I suggest his attendance be revoked." The Sun king said to the other ruler. He wouldn't address Kieran directly, seeing he didn't deserve it.

He wanted to say more; these arrogant self-proclaimed gods were nothing to them. A part of him felt the urge to spit back at them and declare war but he was not the brother for that. He was the peacekeeper and despite his pride and wanting to bend them to his will but he knew that was not a position he had power over. A cold and steel-like hand grasped his wrist stopping any more verbal vomit to come from the second prince and he looked down to see his father's hand wrapped around his wrist but the male would not look at him; the tick of his jaw told him he was enraged but kept it still. More likely more at  Kieran than at the insults being thrown this way and that.

"I will handle my own son. He stays as this concerns him." a surprised look came across Kieran's features as he stared at his father. Had the man actually stood up for him?

"And furthermore; Prince Kieran has the right to choose and negotiate his own suggestions once his head is clear." the pointed look the king gave his son made the anger simmer lower inside of him but he did not speak but merely nodded that he would comply.

Letting go of the prince's wrist Eldrin looked over back at Solar and tipped his head politely. "As we were discussing. Is a mere treaty all that will benefit our realms?" he questioned getting everyone back on track. "A mere treaty would not be enough to satisfy us and frankly I do not see the need for your alliance. There must be more on the table for such a proposal," he added

"Where would Kieran live? Or your son? Will they have their own household or will they reside in one of our two nations?" Rhys piped up breaking through the conversation. Kieran gave a look at his brother as if to ask what that had anything to do with terms?

Knocking his knuckles on the table Kieran gained their attention with a look of exasperation. "That can be discussed among yourselves. I do not see much of an option right now. But I would like to hear what Prince Ori  has to say on the matter as it is his life too you are bartering with." Kieran looked over at the younger male; there was no distaste in his gaze but a solemn wonderment as the pale blue sought out his golden orbs. His face was serious but there was a gentleness in his words as he spoke directly to him. He recognized that they were thrown in the same boat regardless of feelings or lack thereof for the situation.

"What do you think of this proposal Ori?" he asked softly before waving a hand dismissively at the others. "Don't look at your father or the others. Don't listen to their words on the matter. You are validated enough to have your voice heard; you do not need me or anyone else to remind you of that. I want to know what you think of this situation. Not their words or their implantation of logic that you grew up with, I want to hear it from you. Speak your mind and what your heart is telling you." he stared across the table at him intently and searching, ignoring the looks of the others around. Right now it was just the two of them and if this was to be a thing between them then Kieran was taking that step to let Ori know that his voice would be heard and that Kieran would not hold it against him but his words were needed to be heard; he wanted Ori to take a stand for what he believed not for what his father and mentors brainwashed him to believe back home.

Solar would need subtly in perhaps feigned attention or understanding. Would he listen to anyone other than the king of Kesal? He didn't recognise his children as worthy of his focus.

Being addressed directly caused Ori to straighten in his seat, perking up with answers already ready in his head. Not from his own thoughts, but the thoughts of others that he'd been expected to reply with. He felt stressed with prince Kieran insisted on spilling his true feelings towards the topic. His father wouldn't be disappointed, he knew what to say but was it what he wanted to say? The older man's burning gaze would soften when directed at his son from the corner of his eyes, weighing those heavy expectations on his pale shoulders.

Ori took in a shaky breathe, stilling his body so it hopefully wouldn't be noticeable. "This war has taken many lives and consumed countless amounts of time. Neither of us can come up empty handed, or it would have been all for nothing in the eyes of many." He said. The war couldn't just end with a marriage, Eldrin was right that there needed to be more to offer. "If this is a last resort, I have no quarrels with it." He'd do anything for his homeland, even if it meant he fell from the court. His life was worth sacrificing for the greater good of Regnum Caelorum. It seemed overdramatic, but surely his father wouldn't be disappointed.

Kieran stared at him a moment longer as if searching to make sure it was truly what he wanted before his shoulders relaxed a little bit and he gave a small nod his way. The second prince may not agree with this method but he would not oppose it either if it meant true peace ad cooperation between nations after so many centuries of bloodshed through the generations. He straightened up and glanced over at Solar and tipped his head towards him

"Then it's settled. I will marry your son King Solar. But there is still the need for discussion of what will happen and what is required of your son and me. My brother makes a good point; what living expectations are being considered? Furthermore, I have suggestions to be implemented if this is to be a strong alliance through marriage; I will not allow myself nor your son to be used as old rags and thrown away when our purpose is fulfilled for your needs." he said, his tone firm but respectful enough to be appeasing. It was more for show than for actual respect for the king but at this point, it did not matter. Kieran would not back down from the other. He assumed that he would have to move from Kesal into Regnum as the lions of the suns seemed to be too engraved into their own tradition and would not like to have the heir out of their reach indefinitely.

"Oh, and we will need a contract written up once everything is agreed upon," Rhys added putting in his two cents. He wanted to make sure his brother was as safe as possible wherever he may go or be staying. Rhys did not trust the Regnum even more so the proposal that came out of the blue smelled of something rotten underway.

The burnt young man couldn't relax as Kieran had, his shoulders stiff and bandaged tail almost too afraid to move. He didn't like not understanding this whole marriage thing as much as he potentially could. The subject had never been brought up regarding him, it hadn't been at the forefront of his mind. Culture did include marriage traditions sometimes, he knew what those of Regnum Caelorum. Requesting a blessing from a court member was apart of it, which they technically already had since this surprising idea had been the head of the court himself.

Solar acknowledged the second prince this time, leaning back in his chair with a small smile. "If your suspicions cannot be calmed, then consider a trial period. We won't announce the union publicly, our respective heirs will spend one moon in each realm. This could prove a better understanding of each other." He didn't care much for the two kingdoms seeing eye to eye, they may never. This war had to end one way or another, either with Kesal falling or Regnum Caelorum backing down. Those options weren't on the table.

Travelling over to Kesal snd staying for awhile was something Ori was keen on, although he kept his interest to himself. There was a time and place for the enthusiastic babbling of a youngster. Everything he'd read was through the texts in books, he wanted to see if the written word was true.

Kieran didn't like the small smile the older male gave him as if there was something more under his sleeve but he kept his mouth shut. It was true this was all that Kieran wanted; peace for the realms and if his place was to obtain it without more bloodshed then he would be more than happy to oblige. Blinking over at him Kieran's head bobbed a few times as he listened. His idea for a trial run was actually not half bad. It would give the chance for each group to get a feel of the others whether for good or bad. The problem was though if one or both found the situation unsuitable would that turn things back to war? He was scared to find out and he didn't want to have that outcome even on the table. So he would reside himself to be able as accountable and resourceful as he could for both their sakes. He did not want enemies for other reasons.

"That is agreeable. I think we can learn much from each other." he finally spoke and glanced at Ori. He looked so stressed even when his face did not show it.

"And with that, I believe our discussion for today is finished. Further details can be written up in a draft and sent to each other or personally discussed for clarification. Please, enjoy the rest of your night gentleman. Come morning you will have free reign of the academy to roam and decompress from the day's events before we return the morning after to speak one last time on the finalized details. If you will gentleman. I bid you both a farewell." The head of the academy finally stepped forward to dismiss them.

Rhys and Kieran stayed behind at the tables as the others slipped out to enjoy the rest of their night and the eldest had just enough time to grasp his brother's elbow to catch him as his body finally gave way from the stress and overwhelming emotions running rampage through his mind and body. He helped Kieran sink down into his chair and watched as his brother covered his face with his black-gloved hands exhaling shakily.

"Did you know about that?" Kieran mumbled from behind his gloves.

"Of course not you idiot! if I had I would have protested a whole lot sooner. I didn't believe father would agree so readily. It scares me." Rhys mumbled leaning against the table and crossing his arms over his chest.

Kieran shot him a glare from between his fingers before dropping his hands and brushing his fallen black strands from his forehead. "Don't be daft brother. Father always is 5 steps ahead of everyone. He had to have known such a ridiculous option was left unspoken. I honestly didn't think Solar would have proposed the idea first with how their traditions lie." he blinked seeing movement by the door and leaning around his brother spotting Ori. His jaw clenched a little bit but it was from stress more than it was any anger.

Rising to his feet he walked past his brother to stride to Ori. His gaze was uncertain as they gazed at him. "Are you okay? With all of this, I mean. I know I asked you earlier but despite your words, your body doesn't lie." he pointed out looking at him. "This is our only chance for our kingdoms for peace and to break the generations of bloodshed...I just, I don't know I suppose I just wanted to  make sure that you are okay."  he said softly.

With the discussions concluded for the day, the Sun king's people got up and left the room to return to their designated quarters. This proposal had only been talked over briefly, so Solar would have to bring everyone up to his speed. He didn't really slow down for anyone.

Ori couldn't help but hesitant, tempted to look back at the opposing side's people who were still in the room. His lingering got the second prince's attention before he could do it himself.

"Your kingdom and people require your fretting, not I. Being born to such towering figures, we must do our duties and fulfil their wishes when the time comes. The shadows they cast are long and.. dear Gods.." What had started as flowery words from a royal had slowly dissolved into being too full of emotion to continue on with the ramble. If this task was what his father wanted, he would gladly do it. He had to be useful or worth something, if not then what was the point in being given the gift of life? He still didn't know what or who he was.

He did not get put off by the other's reply. If anything the look in his gaze only grew. He could say all the frontal bull crap his father had taught him. But his composure had broken right at the end and Kieran's lips quirked up a little as he let out a bit of a shaky laugh.

"Yeah trust me I know the feeling. I honestly was not expecting it." he looked back over at his brother who was pretending not to be listening.

"But if it makes a difference I'm not as bad as first impressions go." he raised a hand to scratch at his head with an almost sheepish look. "I'm a lot different than what I allow officials to see me as for frontal sake; you know being a prince and all. So I hope we can at least get along and be civil even if we do not find common ground beyond the need to protect our lands. If anything comes out of this I am thankful that we have at least been able to play a part to stop the generation of blood feud; for the moment at least." he added clearing his throat and trying to keep composure without looking too weak in front of the other.

They could learn from each other while living in each other's space for a month at a time. He understood it would be hard for them both as their traditions did not line up so things may be awkward or even distasteful for them but if it meant keeping the peace it was not the worst way to go about it in Kieran's opinion. Looking back towards the smaller of the pair he bowed his head and held his hand out to him in form of a greeting.

"Even so, I feel proper introductions are needed." he gave a half-smile. "I am Kieran, Second Prince of Kesal, son of King Eldrin and Queen Amerytha. I enjoy riding my horse in my spare time and reading books; learning the arts of history long past especially the art of war as well as poems of the greatest artists. I am an advert trainer and tend to like to keep in top fitness. My favorite foods are comfort foods that unfortunately no one in my homeland inside the castle walls can reproduce like Grandma Erza in town" he said and then added under his breath in playful jest as he glanced around. "But don't tell anyone; chef would have my head if I ever told him that. What a scandal!" he smiled

The light haired male glanced at the other out the corner of his eye, almost in a glaring way. He didn't like being laughed at, it seemed informal. Prince Kieran wasn't even considered an acquaintance to him yet. Just a man he met once at a meeting.

Letting out a sigh, his golden eyes fluttered shut momentarily. They were enemies, even butting heads earlier. Marriage was meant to be about love and happiness, he didn't need to read it in a book to figure that out. From the castle, he could occasionally see the celebrations of a joyous wedding. There'd always be so much music and other people congratulating the newly weds. Gods were above such things, they could indulge in happiness every so often but they needed to focus on the bigger tasks at hand. For Ori, that was his continuous growing and learning.

He didn't take the prince's offered hand, instead crossing his arms awkwardly over his chest and straighten his posture. There were laws in Regnum Caelorum about being in the presence of a so-called god and he'd try to uphold them. One was that anyone below them shall not touch them. "The almighty Sun king Solar's creation, I am called Ori. What I enjoy or don't enjoy isn't of importance to know, however I do take an interest in the histories and cultures of not just Regnum Caelorum." He introduced himself formally in return.

Even though he was potentially marrying someone he wasn't particularly fond of, he wasn't the type of taste he didn't like. As in, Kieran wasn't bad to look at by Ori's own preferences.
