Freya's Decor Tutorials!

hi. ive been getting requests to compile my short recommendation thingies that i send to other artists, so here they are!!

i present to you... my official, shitty tutorials!! no images im lazy. feel free to request other ones too. now, let's begin.

(i make no guarantees, but i have over 25 accepted decors at the time of writing, so im decently confident.)

LINEWORK

use a canvas double the wd size
1. use a smallish brush (try and match it with the thickness of the wolf lineart)
2. duplicate lines and gaussian blur one of the layers slightly (keep both layers though)
3. size down to the wd size with GIMP
4. go over the lines again with the small brush (it can be thinner this time bc you've already got the blurry old lines)
5. and done!!
---

BODY PAINT

1. with a normal, non textured pen brush, just draw your shapes. you can sketch em out beforehand if you want too, but that's personal preference. i use a canvas double the size of wolvdens.
2. once you have your shapes, bring the image into GIMP and scale it down to the wolvden size.
3. grab a transparent version of the base you want (grulla looks very nice for this) and clip it on to your og layer
4. (Optional) adjust hue/saturation/brightness of your wolvden base, apply gradient maps if you want, just go crazy until you get the color you want
5. using a small airbrush underneath the solid color layer, go around some of the edges, usually in areas where the fur is thicker. draw clumps, but it's okay if they're rough and vague right now
6. using your pen brush at a smaller size, draw more defined fur strokes
7. blend fur strokes with the smudge tool and erase if needed (to give edges to the strands), repeat 5 and 6 as necessary until it looks right
8. duplicate your clipping mask and clip it onto this blendy layer, or alternatively merge the blendy layer with the shape layer. or you can just do the blendy stuff on the shape layer. it doesn't really matter
9. and you're done!

GLOW (works best on things like sigils)

1. draw your shapes
2. duplicate layer (have it underneath the original) and apply a light gaussian blur
3. increase brightness/saturation of blurred layer by a small amount (I find this helps it look more like a glow)
4. above original layer, create a clipping mask and using a small brush in a darker color, go around the edges (to define them)
5. add highlights to the original layer with another clipping mask below the darker outline layer
6. on a really low opacity layer underneath the glow one, use an airbrush in a similar color to the glow to make it look like the glow is affecting the wolf's fur. feather the edges with a blending tool to follow the fur clumps on the wolf for the best look
7. done!

GETTING BACKGROUNDLESS MODELS

option 1: xylaxs official thread has some PSD files for every pose!
option 2 (if you want a specific wolf): copy this link https://www.wolvden.com/equipper-wolf-image?wolf=1 into your browser, and replace the 1 at the end with the ID of the wolf you want to view!
option 3 (if you want a specific base): open up the wardrobe, right click, and hit inspect element. choose the base you want in wardrobe and hover over the links in the inspect panel until you find one that's just the flat base of the wolf (it will be named the same as the base name.) click that link/open in new tab, and boom! download it or copy paste it into your desired program!

HOW TO SUBMIT CD

Okay, so you'll have to go to your hoard and "use" one of the CD creators you bought from the grove. Accept the terms of service then you'll end up on a submission page. First box you'll fill out is for the "item image" which is a 92x92 .png image (I crop it from my main decor image)
You'll need to paste a URL in, I use discord for my URLs - Just upload an image and hit share if you're on mobile and copy the URL it gives, or if you're on PC hit "open original" at the bottom of the pic and copy the URL from the tab it opens (I dm my cd images to carlbot because he's a bot and doesn't care if I spam his DMS but you can do it in any server or any DMS if you don't mind bombarding others with wd CD images)
Alternatively, you can use whatever other image hosting website. Imgur, imgbb, whatever. Just copy the URLs from there.
You'll fill out the title/decor name and description, and the artist ID (which for me would be 44955. It's just your wd ID. You can add multiple IDs if you collaborated on the decor. Just add the ID of whoever drew it.) then, depending on if your decor is meant to go in front of or behind the wolf, select "above wolf" or "behind wolf" respectively. If your decor is meant for a specific pose or stage, select "stage specific" if it's a general decor that works on all poses or stages select "universal"
Then, you'll have to get the URL for the actual decor through the same process described above. Make sure your image is transparent and a .png file, and is 640x500 in size. In the boxes beside the URL area, select what pose (default, sentinel, relaxed, lethal muties) and what stage (newborn, young puppy, puppy, adol, adult) that your decor is for. If your decor is for multiple poses, you can add more using the green + button, and fill those out in the same way. You'll need new URLs for the art of each one. Then submit!

This is awesome! but I have a question, how do you get a 92 x 92 image? I know how to make my canvas size that big, but anytime I import a wolvden photo (like just a random wolf for a base to draw off of), it becomes extremely pixalated. Is there any way to get a photo of a wolvden wolf that's 92 x 92?

The Wolvden wolf images shouldn't be 92x92, they're 640x500, so when you try to import them to a tiny canvas they get super pixelated. To get a 92x92 size item image for your custom decor, just duplicate your 640x500 canvas and crop it to 92x92. You won't get the full drawing in the picture that way, but don't worry, that's normal.

Sorry for not replying for awhile as I wasn't active for a week or two, but I'm still a tad confused. So, just to confirm, only a part of the drawing should be visible?
