(Just a funky lil' RP between Pepermint and Bakedfish, if you don't sip tea while speaking with 19th century terminology you are NOT allowed to even LOOK at this./j)

Aboard the SS Trafigler
The steamship chugged through the waves, its bow cutting through the dark blue waters as it approached the coast. Aboard the ship were its crew, who were anxious due to their landing point. The trade port of Frenhira was not made to take a ship of the Trafigler's size, and it wouldn't be docking directly because of this. Even so, it was still a place which could cause surprises, as Frenhira was partially enclosed by a rocky barrier. The steamship would need to be maneuvered through the gap in a way so that it could turn around and leave once it had unloaded its cargo. Onboard the ship were several boxes, barrels, munitions, and comfort items. They belonged to the Harrison expedition, one of the competing teams who sought to reach the interior of the expansive rainforest which lay within French territory. Or, at least on paper. Much of the region had not been explored, and a reward had been offered by the Bristol scientific study organization to explore as much as possible, as quickly as possible. It seemed illogical, considering it belonged to French colonial authorities, but many still took up the offer, and now the Harrison expedition was competing against four other teams to get to the assigned goal first. Some of its' expedition members were individuals like William Thames, who leaned against the railing. He was a 25 year old Englishman who had come along on the expedition with a hunger for glory, as he was so confident in his own abilities that the word 'cocky' would've been insufficient. He was 5'7 and had an average build. Everything about him seemed to scream smug. Even if he looked like he might've been better as a bureaucrat, he was a part of the expedition and he was eager to prove how much the others would need him. He stared off into the distance, not really paying much attention to anyone or anything.

Woah :O This is going to be very intimidating and very educational for me, I can tell))

Name: Nicholas Benjamin Maxwell
Age: 19
Personality: May I say find out in RP..?
Nationality: Half british, half American
Appearance: Slightly sandyish blonde hair which falls in short, choppy waves. Eyes? Add a little azure blue and hazel grey. Flimsy build, skinny thing, surprisingly good at running [away] for his underfed proportions. Average height and otherwise looks.
Belongings: Overtly attatched to his golden pocket watch (a family heirloom so to speak/in one sense or another. Accquired more or less illegally..?) Also carries a picture of betrothed [in a locket?]
Other: Er, skipped out on universities. Was grown with a private tutor. Possibly the son of Posh people (?) Undertaking the journey partially to prove he's grown enough to hold his own, partially because he finds learning fascinating, and partially to keep the good family name.

Wait wait wait waitee, let me edit.....

((Reason I removed my character sheet because it looked out of place, and compared to your character it was pretty simple. Yours looks pretty good, so let's see how many lives we can ruin lol))

Turning away from the railing after a while, William Thames watched the crew members of the vessel making their way up and down the deck. Besides the crew, there weren't many others out on the deck, with the passengersΒ  preferring to remain inside, which included much of the expedition's members. As he was planning to rejoin the others, he noticed another one of the expedition members out and about as well.
He never had caught his name and he didn't really need to know, but since he could always boast about his achievements, or at the very least talk proudly about himself, he decided to approach the individual. Perhaps it was out of genuine curiosity, or maybe just a way to see if the individual he was approaching could be influenced by his charm. Or whatever it could be called.

Ah, oki. I just switch device so i may take a while to tyepe....))

Nicholas Maxwell was glancing between his watch and what could be seen of the sky, silently thinking. Half his mind was still at home in England with his family as the other half unconsciously marked the time. There should be at least a few hours difference between here and one point, and between here and the other. He knew the American colonies would be far more out of the loop than the rest of them so he kept those numbers for last.

Walking over to where the individual was, Thames stopped when there were a few feet between them. He hadn't been acknowledged, and it seemed like whoever this person and expedition member was was more preoccupied with watching the partially clouded sky.Β  Thames pretended to be preoccupied with staring off at the distant shoreline again, but he managed to glance at the person he had just approached. He seemed young, even more so than William was. He didn't seem to be the kind of person that the expedition would be appealing to, but here he was. William continued to say nothing, expecting to be noticed and greeted first.

The boy sighed and pocketed his watch. He should have left it alone and kept it running on London time. The times were so confusing...
Nicholas turned to go back to his cabin, the scent of the ocean air making him even more homesick than he already was. He tilted his hat to a man standing not too far off as he passed by him, taking in his appearence in an absent-minded glance. Oh to be home and surrounded by civilized people instead of these scruffy explorers and sea-shanties

Watching as the young man began to head back inside, Thames decided to figure out what exactly he was doing here. He sure didn't seem like he liked it at all and the more Thames thought about it, the less it seemed like his assumption that whoever this man was actually belonged in the party was correct. Perhaps Benjamin Harrison or someone else who helped with the organization might've made a mistake. Or perhaps he had gotten himself on the wrong ship, which would be dreadfully unfortunate. After a while longer, Thames decided to speak up.
"Just a moment," he called. "I'd like to ask some questions since I'm under the assumption you're with the Harrison expedition."

((Ugh I am just as bad as ever in doing this haha))

The boy took a moment to realize that he had been spoken to. The, he cleared his mind and retraced his steps, "Aye, I'm with the Harrisons." Had he done something wrong?

((Bad? If this is bad then you have not seen my offsite RPs ))

"I just wanted to converse. Nothing serious," He replied.
"I am William Thames, and while we could discuss why I am named after a river, I would like to know what you're doing on this expedition. You seem to be someone who would try to avoid something like this, especially considering where we are going."

The boy glanced out over the water for a fraction of a second before re-adjusting his focus to answer the question. He considered, "Well, Mr. Thames," he paused, deciding which to answer first. "The name's Nicholas Maxwell. I'm afraid my reasons are quite none of your business, although I will say that I have long been looking forward to such an adventure."
