I'm going to start with him and add Mae a little later when I have a better idea of where she is going to start.)) Silas The cabin was unknown to the original owners. It was hidden, mostly, by a wave of compact snow and ice that sealed the entire north edge of it. To the south, a pine tree threatens to push its branches through any weak spot in the thick, stacked lumber. Once a stop for training sled dogs, it was long abandoned after an avalanche that changed the trail they followed. It had been a dangerous oasis. Cast in snow and ice, it remained frozen in time until Silas had dug with blue hands a hole to release the back door. He had been cold and desperate, he had run until he couldn't hear the sound of his parents call him a demon ringing in his ears. His wolf instincts had taken him here. They had saved him, and he made the cabin his own. That was nearly seven years ago now. Silas enjoyed many aspects of being a wolf. On days where firewood was scarce and the cabin was cold, his paws could click along the hardwood floors and he could warm himself easily atop wool blankets. He could sense danger so much easier. And, should he need to brave the wilderness, the natural fur of his wolf form was far more insulated than any bulky thing humans could dare call a "coat." However, there were a few things he enjoyed about being a man, and one in particular was the simple act of preparing food that wouldn't fight back. He sat cross legged in front of the fireplace. The midday sun shone into the otherwise unlit home, painting gold on his thick sweater. It warmed him only slightly less than the coals he pressed flat into the bed of ash. There was a kitchen by the front door, but it was finicky. This was reliable, and the center of the cabin. The heart. Then, around it, we're the three bedrooms. The one on the left, by the back door, was his. The others were left to his pack mates, though he didn't force them to stay. Silas placed a pot of coffee on the metal grate in the hearth and a few sandwiches wrapped in tinfoil underneath it to cook. He wasn't sure who was home. It had been late last night when he returned. Money had run out long ago, and he took to traveling far to steal from other cabins and the small stores that littered immature towns. He preferred not dealing with the average human, and couldn't imagine returning to their lifestyle now. He breathed in deeply. The scent of coffee and cheese and meat wafted up with the smoke, filling the room. Silas sighed contentedly as he poured himself a cup of coffee into a large, cracked mug. |

The albino woman stepped through the snow, feet burning from the long exposure to the cold. Silas would not be happy that she went exploring without someone else to assist her, but she didn't care much. He probably wasn't even home yet. She squinted as the house came into view, the snow falling from the sky making it harder to see that it already was. Aeronwen raised her nightgown slightly when the snow became deeper, not wanting it to be ruined because it got wet. It was one of the only belongings she had left from her life before this and she refused to let go of it. She wondered if her family still remembered her, or if they had long moved on. She shook her head, knocking the thought away and taking a deep breath, Don't worry about that, just be glad you were the only one lost in the storm. She scolded herself, pushing her way closer and closer to the cabin. She finally forced the door open, scrambling inside and shutting it behind her. She sighed in relief, her feet burning unpleasantly in the warmth of the cabin. She got ready to sneak, trying to avoid waking her pack-mates but when she turned around she squealed in surprise, seeing Silas preparing a meal. She slapped her hand over her mouth, embarrassed that she just let out that sound. "Ah! Silas! I didn't know you'd be back so soon!" She said, trying to draw the subject off of the fact that she was shivering and red from the snowy landscape. She slowly inched across the space, trying to make a break for the rooms so she wouldn't have to be scolded by him once again. |

As the door handle moved, Silas had looked over his left shoulder so that he could both see and hear who was coming in. He expected Amaris, but was surprised to se Aeronwen back… alone. In nothing but the nightgown, again. She was such a vision like this, he wondered if passing humans ever mused about the white ghost that danced through the snow. He hoped it scared them. He spun around on the butt on his jeans, turning to face her but remaining seated on the hardwood floor. The coals warmed his back pleasantly. "I didn't know you were gone," He answered her, taking a long sip of his hot coffee and not breaking eye contact. His voice was mild, but he had slipped from his relaxed posture into something more ridged. He was disappointed. Grabbing the tongs next to him, he twisted his body and removed two of the sandwiches from the fire. He opened them carefully, moving swiftly with fingers that had been burned too many times to count, to reveal toasted bread. They were a concoction built from simpler times: Tomato sauce, shredded cheese, and pepperoni in two slices of buttered bread, cooked at the edge of a fire. He offered Aeronwen a place to sit and the sandwich, his face not changing. "Your human body isn't meant for traveling at these temperatures, you know." He blew on his meal and watched the stream climb into the air. "We don't want to lose you. There isn't a pack like us waiting to save you. Not like we did originally." He didn't look at her, instead focusing on eating. "It's not safe out there. If you have to be out there, please at least do it as a wolf. You blend in just as well, and you're actually warm." Tomato gushed into his teeth with a pop of the searing hot cheese. There was something still so Animal about him. "There's not much we can do if one day you slip into here with blue limbs instead of red ones." |

A silver grey she-wolf burst through the door, tongue lolling and tail waving wildly. A sharp yelp as her hip smacked against the doorframe but it didn't slow the scrambling paws. The smell of hot human food invaded her senses and Amaris melted away from her previous form, grinning up at the pair before her. "Oh please! I had an eye on her, I wouldn't dare let my lovely Aeronwen get lost." Were the first words that burst from her mouth, reaching for the food almost immediately with twitchy fingers. "Not for long at least. Nearly caught a rabbit but Aeronwen had moved right along. Gotta go check on that one girl, the researcher or whatever she is, and whoever else you turned! But gotta do that later, yeah? Food first then whatever else needs doing around here." A quick breath after her rambling but the food was ready so instead Amaris sunk her teeth into the bread. The bread was hot and a worried frown crossed her face as she tried to swallow it quickly, trying to avoid the burnt tongue she may as well just get. "Iss good!" She mumbled through the food, holding it with her teeth as they pushed themselves off the floor, patting Silas's shoulder as they passed on the way to their room. A muttered curse before Amaris raised their voice, calling out to the main area, "I have another sweater for you Aeronwen! Are you gonna wear it this time?" The tone was teasing and Amaris soon reappeared, scarfing down the last of the sandwich with a pale sweater, silvery threads woven through, draped on her arm. "I still think we should try and get sheep - would be easier to make warmer clothes." They added, handing the sweater to Aeronwen but the words aimed at their brother, ice blue eyes meeting ice blue eyes. |

She raised an eyebrow, "You didn't? That's unlike you, Fy llygaid." She teased, calling him the nickname she had always called him. Well, ever since he had decided to basically be her eyes. The nickname was Welsh for 'My Eyes', she felt that it was fitting for the man. Aeronwen snorted as Amaris burst in, spouting something about not letting her get lost. "Once again getting distracted, dear Amaris?" She asked, smirking slightly. She dove for the sandwich, but fell short like always and the other woman snatched it up. "Dang it!" She said, groaning slightly. She listened to Silas again, rolling her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, whatever. I haven't died or lost any limbs yet!" She said, sticking her tongue out at him childishly and wiggling her toes in the air. She grumbled as he mentioned her wolf form. She knew that he knew she hated being a wolf, it just didn't feel the same frolicking in the snow as she did in her human form. And she wasn't used to it yet, because while other people would have been overjoyed to be able to shift into a wolf, she didn't know if she could ever get used to it. The woman perked up as Amaris mentioned a sweater, thinking for a moment. "Well... I suppose I can try to wear it." She turned to look as she came back into the room, wiggling to her feet at the sight of the sweater. She snatched the piece of clothing from her friend, with a small thank you, and pulled it on with a smile before returning to her place by the fire. She held her feet up to the flames with a sigh of contentment as they started to warm up once more. "Much better. See! No frostbite." |

Silas Silas's casual disappointment faded into something that could be described better as Unamused Sibling. He was, at the very least, happy they had been together. His sister was so unlike him- his careful solitude, initially driven out of hatred, the time he spent in the cabin alone… his early twenties had snatched the effortlessly social bone out of his body and swallowed it whole. And here she was, the last strong tie in familial love, scaring silence out an open door. "Sheep?" He broke eye contact with his sister to look at the sweater Aeronwen wore. It was better than her nightgown, but she still lacked necessary human winter clothes: Pants. It confused him to no end that she didn't enjoy her wolf form. "Amaris… how on earth would we take care of sheep??" He pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his good eye. Initially, he thought she had asked him to hunt the sheep in their fields there there wasn't so much snow. It was something that was bound to get one of them shot, and getting the meat and wool back would be an issue in itself. "This far up the mountain, we'd have nothing to feed them most of the year. I don't have any more money." Silas turned to Aeronwen again and watched the soft glow of the hearth reflect off her pale body. "It is a nice sweater, though. Where'd you find this one, Amaris?" |

Amaris snorted at his exasperation, kicking his leg (fairly) lightly. "I made it, ass. Gathered all the fur we had around here and uh... borrowed that one shop's wool. Took ages to get into town but at least I have more for later. And as for the sheep... well, they're sheep. Just gotta keep em safe and they'll find food. Probably." They shrugged, plopping down next to Aeronwen and poking a sharp nail into her waving feet. "Stinky." They muttered teasingly, leaning towards Silas and searching for the ingredients, grabbing the cheese. "We should at least try get a cow or something. I can make some food with it's milk, it's been a while but." Amaris shrugged again, popping the cheese into her mouth. "Either that or you let us visit the shops more. Can take more next time, carry more bags. Our ghost can go distract whoever might be around." They continued, a small gesture to Aeronwen at the ghost part but certainly not unkindly. |

"Oh I would adore having sheep. So fluffy and warm. The cutest little offspring too!" She clapped her hands together gently, imagining what it would be like to have a flock of the fuzzy little creatures. She looked over when he asked how they would take care of them, "Oh! I'll take care of the little loves! No one else here would be able to stand it as long in the cold in human form as I." She answered him, "Plus the poor things are scared of wolves." The albino added, sticking her feet closer to the flames. "Sheep eat grass, they'll be able to find food. There's tons of berries and such up here." She wouldn't tell them where if they asked though, those bushes were her little secret. Aeronwen raised an eyebrow at the 'borrowed it' part. Both she and Silas knew that was a lie, but while she'd stay quiet she knew he'd say something. "Oh yes! I'd love to be able to go into town more, the people are lovely... most of the time." She thought for a moment about the scaring them part, "Hmmm.. as much as I love scaring people, they hate me enough as it is due to my looks. I'd prefer they not also hate me because I'm a menace to the town." She explained, seeming sad for a moment. |

"Aeronwen, I think you have the right idea." He put his hands together. "But! About one thing in particular. Lots of livestock are scared of wolves. I don't think we could have anything in good conscience as long as I spend so long in wolf form." Silas sighed. "Listen, if one of us ate it as a wolf, we'd have to agree not to get upset. Until then, I'll try and organize more hunts for deer and rabbit. We'll need firewood too." He turned towards Amaris with a withering expression, his lips in a thin line. "Listen, I didn't know you knew how to make sweaters. That's a good skill. If you have money, you can get more things. I just really, really, don't want the townspeople to have a vendetta against you." Silas got up from the floor and looked around his humble cabin home. "If we steal a lot from these big stores, three things are very important: We get in fast. We get out fast. Nobody sees our faces. If we need to run, we need to make sure we can carry supplies as wolves." He thought briefly of his most recent turning- a young woman caught in the wilderness. Silas found her truck first, filled with groceries like bread, pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese, and followed her snow-cut boots tracks out of the ditch and along the long lonely road from a grocery store. She had been very easy to find about two miles away from her crash- A bright pop of orange among the white. The nearest cabins were still around ten miles away, Silas knew. He bit her, like he did many others, to save her. She had transformed quickly, losing that bright coat on the ground, and running away as if her tail were lit on fire. While he tracked her for a while after, he headed back to his own cabin when he saw that her own paw prints mingled with old human boot prints of about her size. She was one of the ones he didn't get to talk to after turning. One of his goals would be to find her, but he wasn't sure if he wanted Amaris or Aeronwen to see his slip up. Sure, they'd know eventually, but he couldn't complain about a lack of food when he had just meant to add another member to the pack. |
