APPEARANCE

Dark hair frames a heart-shaped face in uneven waves, with shaggy fringe obscuring large brown eyes. Such eyes in another face might be considered doe-like, but in combination with a sharp nose and pert, thin-lipped mouth, they are too calculating to belong to anything but a predator. With the sharp edges of high cheekbones and a pointed chin, Vivienne has a most severe case of resting bitch face.

Some people can't help but bring attention to themselves wherever they go. Viv could have been a quiet girl, with her sullen face and her sketchbooks, but the introverted life never did suit her much. She'd much prefer to get to know the subjects of her sketches with a pleasant conversation or (more likely) heated debate over whatever happens to catch her fancy that day. It isn't uncommon for her to go out of her way to antagonize those with a particularly sullen or prickly demeanor as a form of entertainment that only she seems to enjoy.

If there is an adventure to be had or something new to be seen, Viv is likely to be mixed up in the situation one way or another. She struggles with the monotony of routine, often shirking chores or other undesirable tasks in favor of her latest obsession interest. Rules are more of a suggestion and DANGER signs an inviting welcome. While others might have learned a healthy dose of caution from the amount of near-misses Vivienne has managed, the lesson she seems to have learned instead is one of supposed invincibility, giving her an undeniable air of overconfidence.

HISTORY

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. Say one thing for Marisol, say she has the mouth of a sailor. She cares little for the fancy or decorative elements in life, and that includes manners of speech. There's no time for extensive metaphors or flowery descriptions in the midst of a storm or a raid from the king of Draig, preferring to get directly to the heart of the matter at hand. If there's one thing that those who know Marisol can count on, it's that you'll always know exactly where you stand with her.

Under that rough exterior is a good-natured heart. Marisol isn't cruel-spirited or malicious in her actions - or at least she tries not to be, and though she might bristle at being called out in the moment, she usually comes around. She'll be the first to rush into a conflict to break it up with no regard to her own safety, and won't hesitate to challenge the intentions of another if she thinks they're anything less than pure. Her friends and crew know firsthand that she quick to jump to their aid - at times perhaps a bit too quick. Marisol often doesn't gather all the facts before running headlong to another's defense, preferring to ask forgiveness than permission.

The young woman is deeply loyal to her friends, perhaps nearly to a fault as she will follow them to the ends of the world despite how foolish the chase might be. While she won't sit back and take an insult to her capabilities, nor will she look down her nose at an offer to help made in good faith.

Despite her generally open and candid nature, there is one secret that Marisol keeps hidden with a fierce intensity; a love of romance.

HISTORY

Born and raised at sea, it was nearly inevitable that Marisol would choose the life of a sailor herself. Her childhood was spent scampering up rigging and perching atop roofs with a spyglass to keep an eye on the horizon for danger.

APPEARANCE

Korae is all soft curves and gentle features, with nary a sharp line to her. Short of stature, Korae's softer figure belies the lifetime of muscle she has built from crewing a boat at sea. She moves with the rolling, assured gait of a person whose never quite sure where the ground might be and yet doesn't mind, and is rarely the victim of some clumsy mishap. The woman's face is round, framed by waves of sun-kissed hair that have escaped the confines of her thick braid. Sun-kissed skin already bears the traces of laugh-lines and the weathered look of a life exposed to the elements with a dusting of freckles covering a wide button nose and high, full cheeks. Atop a dimpled chin rests a wide and full mouth that nearly always seems to curve upward in a slight smile.

For all that a sea trader's life has afforded her a more expansive view of the world than most, Korae has nearly a child-like wonder about her. Her curiosity is intense, often leading to conversations that feel more like interviews for the other party. While such questions from some might feel probing or insincere, there is nothing more than a genuine interest in getting to know others and a delight in making new friends for the young woman. Those who come to know her will find that she remembers details that others might find trivial, often surprising friends and acquaintances with small gifts or treats specific to their interests.

Korae is highly emotive, and finds absolute delight in what others might view as the most ordinary things - a beautiful sunset, a lovely birdsong, freshly fallen snow. She is easily swayed by the promise of new discoveries or a chance to learn something new about the world that surrounds her and those who can give her such things will find themselves with a lifelong friend. Of course, such extreme highs are coupled with extremes on the opposite end of the spectrum as well. Cruelty, the pain of others, death and decay - such things in even the smallest of doses easily wound the woman's tender heart.

In truth, Korae makes a terrible sailor. Her mind drifts away too freely, making her ill-suited to any lookout duties, and her heart is too tender to take the life of another so she is unable to tend to the fishing nets. She performs terribly under pressure and blood makes her hottibly squeamish, making her useless during raids from the king's vessels. Still, she has an affable good-naturedness to her and a determination to help however she can, granting her grace amongst her crew mates. She does best when given a very specific set of tasks to do, preferably below deck and out of the way of others.
