The temperatures here in the Taiga have dropped considerably, snow has become a common sight and has already managed to cover the ground with a fair amount already. The pack however, has been doing alright so far. They're a bit haggard after dealing with an ear mite outbreak but the majority of the pack seems well enough to hunt and go about their business.
In regards to the hunting teams, Team 2 has been doing quite well this winter since the pack moved to the secondary hunting grounds. They've begun hunting there as the treck to the primary hunting grounds is a bit longer this winter and thankfully they've finally brought down a large bull elk! The pack was excited at the news, maybe this was the break Team 2 needed to get back to normal. However, the pack will just have to wait and see if this luck will continue over to the team's main hunting grounds when spring returns.
As for Team 1, they had their fair share of struggles at the end of autumn and now with the beginning of winter they grow nervous about their success rate. They've begun hunting the occasional medium sized prey like blacktail deer but they end up loosing it or a hunter will get injured so they'll have to call the hunt off. Just the other day, one of their chasers named Adashiel had gotten a pretty bad injury on his back left leg. Thankfully though, the wolf made a speedy recovery and has been able to continue hunting with the team.
In other news, the pack was gathered up last night around Ella's new den and were given the news that she was expecting another litter of 4 pups this season. While her den didn't turn out to be the largest since she was reusing an old coyote hole den she's confident that her pups will be safe and well protected within it.
Pack Researcher Journal
This one might be a bit of a long one today! To begin, we're happy to announce that Ella is expecting another litter of pups this winter! Unfortunately, this pregnancy is a bit early for the winter months but we're confident in Ella's motherly abilities to keep her new pups safe and sound. Ella also didn't get the time to dig a fresh den for this litter but thankfully there was an old coyote hole den near where the pack was staying and she appears to be using it for her own litter.
Additionally, the hunting teams have been doing quite alright so far! We've seen Team 2 bring down their first elk, a bull elk of all things! But they're hunting within the pack's secondary hunting grounds this season so it remains to be seen if this luck will continue when the pack returns to the primary hunting grounds early spring. My team and I have our fingers crossed for them though! Maybe this will be what Team 2 needed to get back on their paws!
As for Team 1, they've had quite the struggle recently. They've managed to track and successfully chase down a fair amount of medium sized prey like blacktail deer but they've lost the majority of them due to an unsuccessful killing blow or a hunter sustaining an injury and the team crumbles after that. One of their hunters, Adashiel, had gotten pretty injured in their final hunt during the fall months but he appears to have healed from the minor leg injury thankfully. Hopefully Team 1 will do better now that the snow has arrived but I have my doubts.
As for the ear mites that Ella had caught in late autumn, she appears to be rid of them now but my other teammates suggest that they've spread to where the pack members den during the spring as quite a few wolves who watch over the pups there show signs of the mites. Hopefully those pesky ear mites will remain there, away from the main pack! But that's all for now folks, I'll definitely be writing more when Ella has her pups. Until then, we wish the Alhavenlan Pack the best of luck this winter.
