Increase Explore Encounter Chances

Increase Explore Encounter Chances

The quest for the 4 White tailed deer, Black tailed deer, and the musk ox is frustrating.
I've spent hours finding them and I've only seen TWO of the things I need, and whilst this I've been unable to do a single pair match because the quest gate keeps you from doing it. Some people also cannot do this quest at all since most locations were locked for them with both black-tailed deer and Musk Ox, but fortunately I had the Tundra unlocked.

I got these encounters all the time until I started this quest and now I can't find a single one, it's like the encounter chances were turned to a lower setting when I began it. The daily quest was enough, but this? Now it makes me want to stop playing this event and I was having a great time with it.

So my solution?
1. Increase the chances of finding these animals
2. Add more things to attack like Moose, Caribou, Sheep, etc.
Or three, and the one I support the most
3. Make it so it DOESN'T gate keep you from matching.

I've had a tiny bit more luck in getting 3/4 so far, but yeah, I agree something needs to be changed a bit. I feel like option 2 is the most reasonable. Moose and elk at the very least make sense to add for story purpose, but really pretty much any of the hoofed creatures feel like they'd fit.

Bit of a side note, but I discovered some stats on finding the three specified targets:
-For the two deer species, Riparian Woodlands and Deciduous are the best biomes to find them. 2/15 possible opponent encounters are in these vs. in Grasslands (2/16) and Coniferous (also 2/16).
-*Musk ox encounter has 2/18 in the Tundra and 2/14 in the Glacier
*Assuming group encounter counts (I don't see why it wouldn't, but I don't have those biomes unlocked at the moment so can not confirm for myself)
Also, my counts may be slightly off, but I based it on [Grouse House Guide] Battle Opponent Masterlist, and I don't know if that took into account any possible explore encounters that turn into combat encounters. I don't know off the top of my head if there are any explore encounters where you can end up fighting the bucks or musk ox/haven't looked yet.
Looking at that, I feel like Musk ox was just added in as a sympathy for those who only have Glacier/Tundra unlocked, since the deer do not show any further north (so to speak) than the Taiga (but otherwise, whitetail spawn in every biome), though I'm uncertain why Caribou weren't chosen instead.

EDIT:
Okay, so after completing the quest, I now even more think this should be adjusted in some way, because there was no kind of worthwhile reward besides being done with it. There was literally no rewards at the end, other than be able to matchmake again, and obviously likely continuing the questline.
Below are just links to the screenshots I took.

^I have been exploring all day trying to find these encounters and only found one (in the grasslands, which I accidentally skipped). No luck in Taiga, Tundra, (barely in Grasslands) from what I've seen.

Just found 3 bucks in 2 energy bars in the Riparian Woodland, so that one does seem to increase odds quite a bit.

Love this event but agree that it is a bit of a hinderance that we can't continue to match until the quest is done

I've been on explore all day as well, never not checking so I don't waste any regenerated energy and I haven't encountered ONE. I'm shocked. In fact, all battle encounters went down drastically I noticed.

I agree! All day I have found 1 deer and I've even found more NBWs than deer. I had no issues finding deer before I took the quest and they all disappeared as soon as I accepted! It's disheartening to not be able to do a major part of the event and a major currency earning part on top of that. I just don't want the lack of encounters to make it impossible to play half of the event.

So there's also a similar quest with dating, but it is, at least for me it was, far less tedious. It's 6 coyotes, which is kind of easier, since the prairie has so many (4 possible encounters), and they didn't seem to really go down in numbers once the quest started (groups also seemed to count for 2, but I could have just messed up my own count exploring). However, it should be noted only coyotes were an option to fight for this one, and those don't spawn in the Glacier and Tundra, so if you happen to be "stuck" there (I used to move to the Tundra or Glacier right before my lead retired just to have have those unlocked immediately, so definitely possible), you'll be stuck until you can unlock the Taiga.

Support. This goes for the coyote quest as well. I haven't been able to send my lead on dates since first thing this morning. I've had two coyote encounters today(and I've been on every chance I've had + a Guarana thrown in there) when normally I'm running into them left and right. Either the encounters need a re work, or the quest need to not lock out event sections.

Im really starting to hate this event.  There is too much going on, too many little tasks.  Now with the Lunar Event (Which I vastly prefer), spreading the word and having to find these animals.  Its over the top.

I got one match today and it triggered this quest.  I was already struggling to even get matches.  Between having to log in every hour for a new applicant and then having 3/4 of them not even like each other...ugh.

I got rid of the ones who were not happy, leaving me with 3, which still didnt like each other by much, logged in and got 1, managed to match them and this quest popped up, barring me from logging in every hour for more applicants that most likely wont like each other anyway.

Can you tell I'm irritated? How is this fun?

I have not seen a SINGLE one of these animals.  Even on a normal day I rarely see blacktailed deer.  And I am barely ever in muskox territory, but those times Ive been there, Ive seen very few of them as well.  Tundra and Glacier I rarely even see an NPC to battle, so I dont even bother exploring there on a regular day. Whitetails were the most common all through many of the biomes, especially level 1-4...now, nothing, not a sniff.

To compare, I got the coyote quest done within three hours.  I encountered 2 coyote packs which count for 3 each and was able to move on.  So low stress, it was awesome.

This quest though....this is absurd.  5 hours....1 deer.

These quests should always always always be able to be completed within 2-4 hours of getting them.  Its giving the big fat middle finger to casual players otherwise.  I cant even imagine what its like for new players with crap stat starter leads because they have to find a deer and defeat the deer (which gives a nasty bleed, a huge Achilles heel for new studs), just to get credit....4 times.

And for stat grinders, every little bit of energy counts to encounter an NPC thats worthy of battle (lvl 15-20), but now players have to consider, if they battle an worthy NPC, they lose energy.  Energy that could be used to find those stupid deer/ox.  So now, do I skip the lvl 18 NPC and find the deer (which by the looks of it could take days) and lose out on possible stats or battle the lvl 18 NPC and hope I find a deer in a few days so I can progress with the event?

To be fair, they fixed the Spread the Word, and that was madly fantastic.  They really should be doing this with the deer quest too.

11.5 hours: 4/4 Required NPCs

I EXPLORED ALL BIOMES AND ONLY FOUND MY 4 DEER IN THE GRASSLANDS!!!!!

I finally completed this horrible horrible quest!  Take in mind, I have the day off and I logged in every thirty minutes to an hour to spend every scrap of energy I had to find these deer.  I did not use any energy boosts as I did not want to fall into the trap others did by wasting Grove items on a quest of futility.  Especially as I have a horrible nasty sneaking feeling we are going to be facing more of the same in the near future.  If this event is styled like Coigreach, its a long quest line and there is a very very good chance this sort of thing will be repeated.

I think I'll be ignoring this event for the most part.  I might continue the dates, but I'll pass on the matchmaking. Its become too stressful.  If I want a base app, I'll just buy it off someone.  Its not worth a full day of exploring and experiencing bitter disappointment.  I think the Devs would do well to remember a game is entertainment, not a grind fest or a full time job.  Make it entertaining, not a slog through the forest of agonizing frustration.

So, I got my quest done and got 5 more wolves, bringing my total to 7.  They all hate each other though.  Two outright hated everyone straight off, to the point of not being able to be matched at all, so I sent them on their way.  So for 11.5 hours, I got 3 new applicants.  Logically, in the 11 hours I spent on the Tedious Quest of Tedium I could have cycled 8-10 applicants.

The event art is stunning, the bases are amazing and I love the encounters in explore.  I think the lore items is a great way to offset the costs of gifts too.  Im sure the decors are going to be adorable and beautiful as well.  WD art team is a notch above the rest.

The dates are kind of fun, but matchmaking is tedious and boring if not outright frustrating, some tweaking to get them to work more smoothly or user friendly would make them more engaging.

strong support. not being able to find these deer is driving me crazy. i ran through all my guarana and meat pies, as well as buying several more from the grove, to find coyotes so i could finish my dates for the day (and got nothing for completing it as a result of a bug, but that's a different story) -- when i have pretty much never bought guarana in the past.
i got the deer quest yesterday as well, and have found zero so far. this is even more difficult than the coyote quest. there is a marked drop in encounter chances as soon as that quest begins.
