What traits are good for a breeding male?

Hi! Despite my join date im still kinda a noob and I need help.

My breeding male will be dying very soon and i'm not too sure what traits make a good breeding male. I do want to use the amor applicator on them but other than that i'm not sure what else to do and i'm not sure what people look for in studs, any help is appreciated!

(Also thinking about using my lead wolf but i'm not sure if he'd make a good stud)

Also wondering if a wolf like this would be a good breeding male too?

There's really two ways to go with studs, colors and stats. For a colorful stud, the more rare and event-based colors/markings/base he has, the more popular he'll be. For a statter stud, the higher total stats the better.

I made a long post and I didn't intend to, and I also typed this up hours ago and forgot to post
----

Well, this is a very subjective question, so in the future you might be better off asking this in the watering hole or some other forum category (purely as you might get more attention). Asking "what is a good trait" in any wolf is a hard thing to answer, as everyone has their own goals in the game. For example, I prefer natural to semi-natural, with a bit of a project of breeding T2/3 Melanism. So when asking if that design would make a good breeding male, for me, absolutely not, but for your own interest or someone who likes the Amor base or the more unnatural looks in general, sure. Below I'm just going to be kind of objective, though that's impossible to be completely as its more just going off popular opinions.
(Also, btw, the design you have there I actually have to admit is very pretty, and I hate the color pink XD)

In general, however, there are some points that can be said for I guess "general value" of a particular stud. I kind of split it into different categories, as I feel like these are more or less the main "schools," so to speak of, thought I see in the community in terms of breeding. They for the most part can all mix together to make the "perfect" breed male, I guess, but I want to first off say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and you should 100% follow your heart, since ultimately you will be the one with this wolf and likely a majority of their offspring.

-Looks:
--Special bases can effectively fail to any tier base, so they are very useful for anyone trying to get those rarer breed-only T2/3 bases (you could extend this logic to T2/3 bases too). Markings that are breed-only or event based (and thus somewhat limited, at least in the sense of new copies of the applicator won't be available till the next time the even runs) will be valuable in that they can not simply be applied (and event applicators typically its a random roll of like 4 possible marking shapes). Marking tiers are listed on your wolf's page (and in the wardrobe) and I believe anything higher than tier 1 (1 is oasis app, 0 is NBW or oasis app; there's a tier for NBW exclusive but I forget which one it is, and another for RMA exclusive) is truly "breed-only" at least as far as getting it onto a wolf.
-Looks is the hardest thing to judge value on honestly, as you will run into multiple types of breeders when it comes to looks, so I feel it is best to decide which you are and go with that. (Types off the top of my head: rare/breed-only, natural/semi-natural, colorbombs/unnatural; those would be the big main groups I feel. There's definitely also likely a group that is "I breed whatever looks pretty to me" which could be anything and everything depending on their own interests, thus too vague for me to define.)

-Mutations:
--This could actually go either way. Yes, mutations and carriers tend to be more valuable, but you could also have people who don't like the specific mutation. However, I'm still going to put this as a "generally valuable" thing, as they generally speaking are considered valuable by the community, and by the game for that matter due to mechanics making them harder to breed.
-Piebald is passable but doesn't have a carrier status like other inherited mutations.
-Even carrier status for lethal (Brachycephaly) is weirdly valuable as people who breed for mutations consider lethals to be exceptionally valuable.
-Mela or albinism are somewhat "common" ish but still valuable as it is not 100% predictable if a wolf will pass the mutation to their offspring, even if the other parent has the mutation. There are set chances, but no guarantee for breeding these from carriers/wolves with the mutation.

-Stats:
--Stats are actually incredibly relevant in this game vs. LioDen (sister game), where it really only ever felt like it mattered mechanically for your lead lion. Every role has certain stats that improve the efficiency or success of that wolf's job (for lack of better term), even pupsitters. Thus, a good breeding male is one that has good stats.
--Personally to achieve that, and I see many others do this too, I either have my lead as the breeding male(although I think I've actually yet to do this lol) or have them as a scout (simply because they seem to level up so much faster than anything else!).
---For a comparison with the stats so you get an idea of what I mean: one of my oldest hunters (she is from my currently most senior hunting party, but even they are still fairly young) has gained 210 stats and 10 levels (level 11) in her life (as of posting this), but that's over 233 hunts. My breed male who is ~2.5 years old, is level 13, has gained nearly the same amount of stats (206 to be exact) in far less time, over 77 patrols. He's roughly 2 in game years younger than the hunter and has gained effectively as many stats as her (she may have been trained as a pup too, I don't remember, but I believe I did; he was not, since I bought him as an adol and they had no training) and two more levels.
--In my opinion, you don't have to start with a high stat male and design the looks afterwards. If you actively set them as a scout (hunter is probably also a fair choice, but significantly slower than scout/lead yet still faster than pupsitters and herbalists) you will have a very viable stat breed male when they reach level 20 no matter what. My first breed male was a customized wolf (so NBW stats) and when he died he got up to 758 stats, which is not much by today's stat economy, but really isn't too far behind what all my other breed males since have got to.
---TLDR: it's very feasible to raise stats, so focus on other things when picking and designing your breed male.
--For stats, you could try to either go all for one stat being really high, or try to even it out. Personally, I think the better strategy is even it out, as if it's your breeding male, you might want his pups to be able to fill any role rather than one or two specific ones.

-Generation and Inbreeding:
--This is a category I'll put here but realize it is not universal.
--Some people value lower generation (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) and 0% COI (inbreeding stat more or less; both of these can be found in a wolf's family/heritage page). Inbreeding has no mechanic in game, but there are, like on LD, "clean" breeders, and lower generation makes it easier for them check if breeding to your stud is a good idea or not for them.
--This whole "clean" breeding thing really kind of drives most to "clean" breed or at least have NIB (non-inbred) breed males, because otherwise you effectively make your stud unattractive to a whole demographic of players... As someone who is one of said players, I actually kind of dislike this situation lol More or less there are only main two camps of players when it comes to the inbreeding, those that don't inbreed, and those that don't care either way and thus either inbreed or don't depending on the situation. Basically, inbreeding is beneficial to a degree, when you're stat and look/mutation breeding, as let's say you have a high stat breed male and your highest stat female is related to him, to thus produce your next high stat breed male it makes complete sense to breed these two together, as there is no downside mechanically. Stat breeders thus tend to be in the camp of "I don't care either way," but if your breed male doesn't have the potential to be desirable to high stat breeders, then you are probably better off avoiding inbreeding in order to cater to more people... I hate this personally as it discourages people from just being casual about things and doing whatever is great for them at the time while still being able to have a good prospect in terms of selling or studding their wolves.
