Hello! This is the official role-play thread for Land of the Domesticated. Please only post if you are a part of the role-play. Land of the Domesticated is set in a post-apocalyptic world without humans. Our characters will be canids - species within the canine family. You can be a dog, a wolf, a fox, a hyena - whatever you fancy, as long as it is a canine. The mass extinction of humans has caused a lot of troubling times for house pets and wildlife alike. Nature is starting to rapidly overtake human settlements at a shocking pace due to experimental radiation leaked in the extinction event. It's only been two months since the mass extinction, but the world looks like it's been 20 years after humans were gone due to the rapid overtake of nature. Our story takes place in the small town (made up town) of Sirenchester, West. Sirenchester wasn't a large town, but when humans lived here, they did house a bunch of dogs and in the surrounding woods, there were always various types of wildlife, even if it became impractical for that species to live there. But after the apocalypse, many dogs were left without an owner, without a family. Many of the wildlife was left free to roam the streets without fear of the humans hunting them down. Now, two months later, it is up to you to decide your fate. Will you join the rapidly growing masses of ownerless, broken and lost dogs, will you strike out on your own, or will you submit to the Alpha and have your life forever changed by the whispers of the wind and the calls of the pack? Rules: - Please title your post with: Name - Gender (Pronouns) - Species - Rank - Location: - Mentions: |

Allegiances: Beta: (The second-in-command. The beta only follows orders from the alpha. This role makes sure the other pack-members are completely their tasks and breaks up any fights that may occur.) Herbalist: (The pack-mate with the most extensive knowledge of herbs and medicines) Hunters: (The main body of the pack. They provide the pack with food and are the first line of defense.) Scouts: (The few who don't want to hunt or who are not capable of bringing down prey. These pack-mates scout out new locations, accompany hunters to assure safety, and various other non-hunting tasks.) Loners: (Dogs and other canines who do not wish to join Burning Fire pack, but who also aren't going to give up without the humans. Are allowed to form their own small groups without being noticed by the pack. Large groups who rival the pack will be seen as a threat to the pack.) |

Two months since the apocalypse started and still no signs of the humans. Did they die? Did they disappear, evaporate in dust? One day they were all as normal and the next, they were gone, leaving their canine companions behind. It was up to those exact canines now on what to do with their new life, on how to spend it, how to survive. Should they join a pack? Should they stay right where they've lived all their lives, dreaming for their humans to one day return? No one knows what will happen when all this over and no one knows if anything will go back to normal. Maybe this is the new normal? Mutated animals, human-less cities. One thing is for certain though: The calls of the pack are strong. The ever increasing need to be in a group for safety will only get more harrowing as the nights and days drag on. Sunrise - 6:00 am - September 22nd (Fall) - Weather: Sunny with a side of Clouds - Days since apocalypse: 61 Binx - Gender Apathetic - Husky/Wolf - Alpha - Location: Pack Camp - Mentions: None, Open The large hybrid woke with the sun. His den was a small burrow dug out under some tree roots at the edge of the camp and the only light that got in was from the surprisingly small hole he crawled in and out of everyday. The camp was a decent size, surrounded by woods. It wasn't too far from the city, but not too close to where loners could easily slip in. It had been 61 days since the apocalypse and he was pleasantly surprised with how many canines had been willing to join his pack. Yet he still had no clue who to choose to run his pack alongside him. He needed a Beta to help make the decisions and to make sure he wasn't going to be a dictator nor an unruly leader. Huffing, Binx stood up, stretched, and made his way out of his den. The first light of the day warmed his fur, but the ground was still cold. He shook himself out, ridding his body of the dampness of the underground. Today he planned to take a few of the dogs and head into the city, hoping to be able to grab some blankets or pillows from a few of the human houses. First, the pack needed to wake up. Binx knew there were a lot of things to do today. Today he finally had a pack, today he finally could settle in and get to know his pack. So he sat, right outside his den, soaking up all the warmth the meager light from the morning sun could give him as he waited for the pack to stir and wake for another day. |

Fauna | Female (she/her) | Greyhound | Herbalist | Location: Camp The skittish canine tended to her small collection of dried herbs, her tiny floppy ears angled backwards in their typical anxious fashion. Stars, she was feeling on edge that morning- so much to do, so many herbs to gather so- oh wait, she'd collected those the night before. A small sigh of relief, and the skinny sighthound continued to nose through the crevices in the large boulder mound that she called home. It was nice for keeping out the rain and wind, but considering that she was a long-legged hound, it did get cramped in there. Fortunately, she didn't have any sick canines sleeping inside with her quite yet. Fauna scrambled from the herbalist den, squinting up at the sun as it began to rise. It was best that she get started soon- although the flora was growing at a rapid rate, not all that she sought out was nearby and readily available. The stinky tobacco plants grew closer to the city, and such herbs were important to the prevention of fleas. Scouts traveled far and wide, so it was important that they didn't bring back any little travelers. That being said, her intention wasn't just about finding herbs, she wanted to further explore the locations nearest to the town, in the event that she might find any injured. It made her panic, knowing that some poor souls bumbled around on their own without any proper herbalist knowledge. It was a secret Fauna kept, and she did her best to ensure that it remained that way. She didn't want any trouble, she just wanted to lend a paw. |

Sigma - Male (he/him) - Pitbull - Hunter - Location: Camp - Open The brute sat by the edge of the camp, his brown eyes searching as they always did. He looked on edge, but this wasn't anything new from him. Since he had joined the group, he was on edge. His entire life he had spent fighting other dogs, and the scars that covered his body were evidence of that. He saw each being as a threat, despite his rather kind nature underneath. A bit of movement in the corner of his vision caused his ears to perk and his eyes to dart over. It was just a leaf flittering in the breeze. He sighed, shaking his head. This was exhausting. He noticed Binx and a small smile appeared on his jaw. Binx had let him into the pack and now he finally had a place he felt he belonged in all this chaos. He wondered if the Alpha had any plans for the day, but decided to just observe rather than spark conversation. He wasn't very good at that anyway. |

Achilles - NB Male (he/they) - Wolf/Shepherd - Scout - Location: Camp - Open Achilles padded into the clearing from the edge of camp, where he had paced the boundary at dawn, checking for threats to the camp. As the sun climbed higher he felt confident the camp was safe for the morning, and headed back for the day's agenda. Bright yellow eyes scanned the camp, cataloguing the location of the canines out and about in the clearing. He passed Binx as he headed in, nodding his head in silent greeting, his tail relaxed. Binx had earned his trust and respect, a hard-won thing, and he felt comfortable defaulting to his judgement. Despite being apart of the pack, the rest of the canines hadn't won that same trust from him, and he preferred to stick to the shadows of the camp and scout alone. He sat down a few feet away from Binx, though his eyes still scanned the camp and other canines with slightly narrowed eyes, making sure he didn't miss anything. |

Shiroi - Female (she/her) - Border Collie - Hunter - Location: Camp - Mentions: Sigma The petite female approached a brute, but not from behind, making sure not to push him to the edge of his... well, edge. "Good morning, Sigma." She woofed quietly, her tail wagging slightly at the base. It felt heavier than it used to, before the apocalypse, but she'd gotten used to it. Her brown eyes trailed the scars adorning his thin coat. Sympathy seeped into her. She wouldn't feel his emotions without his permission. Shiroi was glad that she could turn off her empathy until someone clarified that it was okay. Her pelt was shiny and well-kept, and she hoped to keep it that way. Not that she cared massively about her fur-care, just that she wanted to look presentable every day. Her ears were perked up, awaiting any response from the male. Shiroi wanted to stay on her paws instead of making herself comfortable, in case the male wanted to be left alone. Kirameki - Female (she/her) - Golden Retriever - Scout - Location: Camp - Mentions: N/A Kirameki lifted her head from under her tail, blinking her soft eyes curiously as she watched life fill into the camp. Letting out a yawn, she inspected the new canines she'd be living with. There was Achilles, a shepherd wolfdog who had lost some of his hearing, she'd learned. Getting up, Kirameki stretched slowly, letting out yet another yawn. Standing up, she looked up at the sky that was slowly turning blue, and she smiled to herself before slowly walking deeper into the camp to see what everyone was talking about. |

Sigma - Male (He/him) - Pitbull - Hunter - Location: Camp - Mentions: Shiori The voice was unexpected. Somehow, Sigma had gotten distracted by watching Binx and the other members and failed to notice Shiori approaching. He flinched, a jerking motion that didn't fit the large dog. He bared his teeth on instinct, digging his claws into the ground beneath him. Realizing it was just another pack member, and a smaller one at that, he calmed down a bit. "Uhm- Sorry," he mumbled quickly, bowing his head. He needed to get out of that habit fast if he wanted to keep his place in the pack. "Good morning, Shiori." His voice was soft and quiet, a stark contrast from his brutish exterior. The deep sound emitted from the back of his throat and out his mouth. He took a small breath, closing his eyes for a moment to calm himself down. Looking at the female, he noticed her kind demeanor and smiled gently. He appreciated her attempt to speak with him. |
