"We mustn't stay here" they said, howling to the Alpha, "We must seek shelter elsewhere until it is put out!" But the Alpha was unsure. Ibella Luka had never had to move the pack, and Sibella before him had never moved the pack outside of the Changing Seasons ceremony*. But then again, they had never seen a fire like this one. Fire's were uncommon in this area, and surely this one would stop before it reached the mountains. So they stayed. But the fire's did not stop. They came from all directions, spreading into the grass and blocking wolves off from exits. Pups cowered in dens, trying to avoid the searing heat of the embers. Hunters raced around, attempting to find paths to free themselves and their packmates. In the haste of it, Ibella Luka was frozen: what was he to do? What would his mothers do? But while Ibella was frozen, his sister - Ankali, was not. Ankali took her hunters into the fray, grabbing pups and directing elders and pupsitters into the snow covered mountains, where the flames would be simmered. They climbed far into their old homeland, where their ancestors had once lived. In the battle to get everyone out, Ankali was swallowed by the flames, along with her hunters and her mate. Ibella was left with little of her pack. A pack of 97 had shrunk to little over 20. The numbers so drastic, no elders could ever remember an incident so severe and catastrophic. The following wolves were a few of those recovered that died to the flames: Ankali Lada Brinn Flake Devero Snowflake 2 Cami Nanaba Huma And many more...
