Nightshade was recruited as the pack's main scout after Coyotescar was forced to retire. Found in the taiga by a neighboring pack, he reluctantly accepted Quailchaser's offer to join Lassen Pack. He was cold towards the pack and spent as much distance from the as he could, not intending on staying long, until he met his mate, Redsable. She convinced him to return to the pack with her after he spent a month away, helping her recover from a snakebite. He has since settled into the pack more comfortably, though Redsable and his pups are the only wolves he outwardly shows affection to. He's fiercely proud of all of them, taking his deaf son Cowbane under apprenticeship when no other wolf would see his potential and training one of Lassen Pack's best scouts. His two daughters became great hunters, like their mother.
