Little Lovebug

Carmina, little sun child of Kaolin and Carmine of the Duskveng pack, was a survivor from the moment she was born. Her heart was on her elbow fur and even as a newborn, she would lovingly snuggle against her mother. She eventually weaned from her mother and as she was old enough to wonder around the pack territory, she did so with her pupsitter. It was then she came upon Nephele, in talks with her father and the pup plopped down on her haunches and listened intently.

Sometimes it was a tradition for packs to have pups join an allied pack and while she was too young to understand the why of it yet, she heard her father call her over. He quickly explained that his ally Nephele needed a strong pup that was brave and true to join them, after they had lost some members. Carmina's eyes lit up, she could help! She looked at her father and asked if she could volunteer, as she wanted to get big and strong and help her dad's friend by protecting them.

Chuckling, Kaolin agreed she was definitely the right pup for the job and after a bit more conversation, Carmina ran to her mother and nuzzled her, explaining she was off to make her proud and grow big and strong. A nuzzle was given to her father as well and then she hopped into the little satchel that Nephele was carrying and arrived at her new home, ready to make her parents proud of her and be a good girl and brave and a protector.

Carmina turned her head to the night sky, and her aching bones knew.. it was time. Rising to her feet, she nuzzled her now weaned pups once more, and pulled the ribbon off her ear and slid it over her daughter Amalee's tiny ear. " Listen kiddo.. your old ma has to go on a journey and I wont be able to see you for a very long time.. but someday, when its your turn to make this journey.. I will come for you. In the meantime.. take care of the pack and your siblings for me ok?" She asked and Amalee whimpered for a second before she stood tall and bobbed her head. " Don't worry mama.. I will be brave, I will shine and I will be sure no harm comes to our home." She said, stamping her front paws. A warmth filled Carmina's eyes and she nuzzled her daughter one last time then walked towards the mouth of the cave and let out a howl like she never had before and took off at a full run, grinning as Cove and Vivienne were soon at her side and most of the adults at the end. Her body started to glow like liquid starlight and as she jumped towards the lake, she burst into a shower of sparkling energy, healing the entire pack of any aches and pains.

As Cove looked skyward, he noticed the sky had a new bright star.. Carmina would always be watching over them all.
