Serenity the Legacy
Serenity is the daughter of Autumn Harvest Moon. He was the fastest wolf ever in the pack's history. Her mother is Epsilon Cancri, a demigod who almost matched Autumn's speed, but had unnatural strength. Because her parents were in a polyamorous relationship, Serenity and her four littermates also received a lot of attention from Singed Stones their other mother, and Shards their other father. She was extra protected like her littermates and got spoiled lots by all four parents. Autumn and Singed were old wolves, however, so this love wouldn't last forever.
When Serenity was just seven months old, her biological father had passed away. Before Autumn passed, he decided to give his lunar tear pendant to Serenity when she was six months old. It was a special gift from a special friend, and he wanted to pass that memory onto his daughter. Serenity took it and wore it with care.
After her father moved on to the afterlife, Serenity inherited his moon. The small, glowing yellow moon that orbited his head had vanished after his death, only to reappear by Serenity's paws. When she touched the moon, all of her father's memories as well of those who touched noses with him flooded her mind. That is when the moon began to orbit her head as well. Once she finally composed herself and digested all those new thoughts, she felt compelled to talk to Soren.
He was a dear friend of Autumn and he often visited her and her siblings. He was grieving over the loss of Autumn, and she decided to comfort him. She gained some of his memories, and the bond those two shared moved her heart. The elder albino sat by her and Epsilon atop a hill in the meadows, watching a sunset. Although the near-sighted albino couldn't see all the vibrant colours like others could, the scene was still beautiful enough to move him to tears. Serenity recalled a shared memory- one of Autumn and Soren crying together during a sunset like this. And so, she cried with him. The two let out sorrowful howls into the sky with Epsilon joining in shortly after. The trio cried and cried as they huddled together.
With the setting of the sun came the coldness of the winter night. However, they only felt warmth that night. A familiar presence stayed with them all night until the day eventually came. Serenity already knew who it was, and she felt at peace ever since.
A Hidden Talent: The Descent into Madness I
Turning nine months old, Serenity decided to touch noses with the pack herbalist. She always had an interest in herbalism, but Cherry Root wanted her to become a hunter because speed and agility were her strongholds like her parents. If she inherited memories from wolves who touched noses with Autumn, then perhaps she could touch noses with other wolves to gain their memories. That way, she could learn everything she needs to from the herbalist's memories. She padded through the cedar tree cluster she lived in with her pack, crawling into a large burrow where the herbalist resided. At the end of the burrow was the timber shewolf named Cave Crawler. She smiled warmly at the young shewolf, inviting her over to sit. Serenity did so happily.
"What brings you to my den, little one?" She spoke softly, looking over the grey and white adolescent for any injuries. "I just stopped by for some advice." Serenity gave her a polite smile. The timber herbalist looked surprised. No one in the pack ever asked her for advice other than the alphas. They really only visited her den when they were sick. "Oh uh.. What do you need help with?" Her head tilted. "I want to become a herbalist like you, but alpha Cherry Root says otherwise. What should I do?" Serenity said with a slight frown. "Hmm.. I'll talk to her about it." "Really?!" Serenity's head perked up, her tail wagging. "Of course! I'm getting very old and I still haven't found a pupil yet who is worthy to train. You, however, are full of enthusiasm. I can tell." She chuckled. "Now, is that all you had to ask?" Cave Crawler looked at her with a swaying tail. "When does training start?" The adolescent tilted her head. "Tomorrow at dawn. How does that sound?" "Perfect!" Serenity sprung up, touching noses with Cave Crawler. The timber herbalist was taken by surprise by this. "Oh my- you're quite excited to learn herbalism, aren't you?" Serenity didn't reply. She stood there with a blank expression for a moment before shaking her head. "Oh uh.. Yeah, I'll see you tomorrow." She forced a smile, quickly leaving the burrow without giving Cece a second glance.
Serenity crawled into an empty burrow- her own burrow where her father used to sleep. Her eyes swelled with tears. She couldn't control it. The tears were streaming down her face, dripping onto the dirt below. The memories she inherited from Cave Crawler were so overwhelming. The sudden feeling of guilt and longing for someone to look after her filled her thoughts and feelings. After a few minutes of crying, Serenity ran to her mother like a pup that had gotten a thorn in their paw. She wanted comfort from someone older than her, and she didn't know why.
"Mother!" The adolescent cried out, running into Epsilon who had just returned from a hunt. The dark grey and white shewolf looked at her with confusion and concern. "Serenity? What happened?" She pulled her daughter close to her, giving her a wolf hug. "Please don't leave me, mother! I'm doing the best I can!" Serenity blurted out. These weren't her words. Immediately, the adolescent backed away from Epsilon who was full of worry. "I- I'm sorry I-" She kept walking backwords. Serenity was still speaking the words of another wolf. The only thing she could think of was wail loudly. What's happening to me?! She cried and cried. Wolves poked out their heads from burrows in confusion, looking towards the adolescent. "Serenity..." Epsilon stepped forward, licking the tears from her cheeks. "Don't cry, dear. You know I'll never leave you." She spoke softly, sitting by her distressed daughter. But I already know that, mother! This isn't me speaking!
It took a few minutes, but Serenity eventually cried herself to sleep. She rested against Epsilon who sat by her the whole time. This was only the beginning of a bigger issue that would plague Serenity's life. Soon her life would no longer be that of peace.
It was early spring. Serenity had spent the last few weeks of winter with Cece the herbalist; foraging for herbs, crafting medicines, and learning about different illnesses. Serenity amazed the herbalist with her knowledge. That was because she gained most of Cece's memories of her herbalism lessons. Epsilon was a little sad that her daughter wasn't going to be a hunter, but she also felt proud that Serenity was going to take on such an important role.
The grey and white adolescent couldn't help but feel distracted during her lessons. She already knew everything she needed to, but that wasn't it. The painful memories of Cave Crawler's childhood kept crossing her mind. On a cold spring night, the adolescent entered the elder herbalist's burrow. Nighttime in the spring is when Cece was born, and it was when her pups were born. A lot of her bad memories happened on a spring night, so Serenity wanted to give her a good memory in the spring before she passes on.
Resting in a bed of dry moss and leaves was the timber shewolf. Serenity walked over to her with the freshest leaves she could find. Cece was quick to wake up upon her approach. She gave the grey and white shewolf a confused look. Serenity nudged the bedding materials to Cece, and a small smile appeared on the herbalist's face. She got out of her bed and began making a new bed with the help of Serenity. Once it was finished, Cave Crawler curled back up.
"Thank you, little one. You didn't have to do this." She gave the adolescent a warm smile. Serenity simply smiled back. Cece then yawned, getting ready to sleep. Serenity let out a woof, and in came her two sisters. Cave Crawler raised her head, unsure what was going on. The adolescent had told her sisters what she saw in the herbalist's memories, and she wanted to give her a good memory. All three adolescents curled up by the herbalist, with Serenity resting her head on Cece's back. "What's all this for?" The timber shewolf asked tiredly. "We wanted to give you a good memory for once. It's a cold night in the spring, after all." Serenity replied, and Cave Crawler began to tear up after that. The adolescents already started dozing off, but the herbalist stayed awake a few minutes longer. Tears rolled down her cheeks as a smile slowly formed on her face. Not too long after, she fell asleep with a content look. Serenity's plan had worked.
A Hidden Talent: The Descent into Madness II
A week after spring had arrived, Serenity decided to do more good deeds for her pack. Using her hunting skills, Serenity went out on a little hunting trip without telling anyone. She already knew her home territory and the surrounding meadows well, seeing as she used to travel a lot during her hunting lessons. Though it was still cold and snowing outside, Serenity was able to find a snowshoe hare. She used her pelt to her advantage in stalking. Once she was close enough, the adolescent pounced. The hare was quick to react, but she was faster. The chase was short as she was able to grab the hare and snap its neck. She returned home, proud of her catch. All the nursing mothers were already fed by the other adults, so she decided to visit a friend of Epsilon.
Serenity crawled into a burrow on the outskirts of the cedar tree cluster. It was the burrow where Radiant Day lived. Before fully making it out of the burrow, the pale blue shewolf was there just in front of the entrance as Serenity bumped into her.
"Oh, hey there." Radiant looked down at the young shewolf who backed up a little. Serenity simply showed the hare to her, her tail slightly wagging. "Oh- I already ate a while ago." Radiant gave her a polite smile. "But I do appreciate it." She touched noses with Serenity. The adolescent flinched, but she was too slow. Their noses pressed against each other. Serenity's pupils dilated as she quickly dashed out of the burrow and ran deeper into the cedar cluster, leaving the pale blue shewolf confused.
Serenity crawled into her burrow, collapsing. She was feeling so weak- her back legs having given out on her. The hare in her jaws dropped. That was when it hit. The abdominal pain. She cried out in pain. It was intense, and she couldn't handle it. She was having contractions like she was in labour. Serenity was only an adolescent. Why was this happening to her? Serenity let out shrieks of pain that echoed out her burrow, concerning her packmates. After an excruciatingly long sixty seconds, the pain was over. Serenity looked over at the hare. She had a pained smile on her face as she began nudging it to her stomach, hoping for it to nurse.
"Serenity?!" Shards quickly entered the burrow. He heard her cries and he wanted to make sure she was okay. "Are you okay?!" He looked at her with concern. Serenity gave him a warm smile but that smile quickly faded. She had a nervous look, slowly moving her tail out of the way to reveal the hare by her stomach. Shards paid no attention to it. Instead, he walked over to Serenity to check her for any wounds. The only thing was the stench of blood from the hare. Otherwise, the adolescent was physically fine.
"What was all that screaming for-?" The dark teal male tilted his head at her, sitting in front of the adolescent. She didn't answer him. The two sat in awkward silence before Shards finally spoke again. "I guess you just need some space.." He got up, turning to leave. "Shards, wait!" Serenity called out. Shards turned his head to look at her. "I swear these are your pups! Please don't leave me!" She whined, her eyes becoming glossy. Shards gave her a confused look. "What are you talking about?" He had growing concern for his daughter.
Serenity had a look of anger on her face as she let out a snarl. "You didn't even bother to check on me- not once after the pups were born!" She stood up, giving him a harsh glare. "Serenity, what has gotten into you?!" "That green one is YOURS y'know?!" Her snout pointed to the snowshoe hare. Shards pinned his ears. He has heard these words before, but why was Serenity saying all of this? "Serenity-" "GET OUT OF MY SIGHT, FILTHY SNAKE!" She let out another vicious snarl as her eyes swelled with tears. Shards, wait! I didn't mean it! I didn't mean to say any of this! The dark teal male backed off, crawling out of the burrow with a hurt expression. He didn't know how to calm her down, and the words she said to him brought back unwanted memories from a few months back. Serenity wanted to speak, but she couldn't. She still wasn't in control of her body.
The adolescent sat with a slump, her claws sinking into the dirt as the tears dripped down on the ground below. I- I can't control this power. I can't touch anyone's nose or I relive their memories.. Serenity finally snapped out of it; the flow of tears down her cheeks stopping as well. Father... Did you have to go through this too? I don't want this moon anymore! She tried to bat at the moon orbiting her head, but it's like there was an invisible force that bound it to its place. Why was it me and not a sister of mine? Why me out of all the wolves in this pack?! Serenity screamed into the hare's fur. The tears began once more. This time, it was actually her tears and not the tears of another wolf. She was so frustrated and upset that she decided to cry her heart out. The young shewolf hid in her burrow for the rest of the day. She snarled at anyone who tried to talk to her. She just wanted to be left alone for a bit. Serenity needed some peace, even if it was for a little bit.
A Hidden Talent: The Descent into Madness II
When Serenity became a year old, she decided to leave her pack for a bit. She wasn't leaving forever, but she just needed some peace and quiet. The grey and white shewolf set off to find true serenity in the chaotic world. Her parents and sisters wished her farewell as she left the pack to roam the grasslands. Serenity ventured up north, heading for the riparian woodlands.
Upon reaching the wetlands, she stumbled across a pit in the earth. There was a rocky path she could climb down from, so Serenity decided to descend into the pit. There was a nice waterfall and a river flowing through, followed by a deserted cave. She couldn't smell any animals from her spot, so she deemed the cave safe as she walked into it with hope.
It was dark and quiet. The air was pretty musty, and the stench of blood wasn't too faint. Something has definitely died here. Still, Serenity thought it was better than back at home. She sat down in a smaller section of the cave, letting the sound of dripping water carry her to sleep. What felt like an hour of rest was only a few minutes as Serenity jolted awake. Some noises from deeper in the cave startled her, so she cautiously began walking back towards the entrance. It was much safer to leave than to see what was lurking deeper inside.
Before Serenity could leave, a strange voice called out to her. "Hello there, young wolf." Serenity swiftly turned to face the voice, but she couldn't make out what she was looking at in the dark. It was a wolf with... wings? Six white stained wings covered the wolf's head. Their whole body looked like it was stained with black and brown blotches, with white patches shining through the darker tones. They sat a few feet away from her, sitting in silence for a moment.
"Don't just stand there. Tell me your name." The voice sounded a bit more impatient. "It's Serenity, sir..." The shewolf felt unsettled by the wolf's presence, but decided to be polite. "Ah, what a pleasant name you have." Serenity sheepishly thanked him for the compliment, ever so slightly moving back with every word said between the two. "The name is Amrani. What brings you to my cave," he said with a slight head tilt. A few of the wing feathers covering his face parted to reveal one of his eyes. All Serenity could see was a glowing cross, but she could tell that was his eye as she felt Amrani watching her closely. "I know you're trying to leave. You're doing a poor job at being subtle." Amrani got up, taking a few steps towards the young shewolf. At that point, she was ready to bolt it.
Serenity turned around to sprint away, but she bumped into something warm and soft. It was another- wolf? A tall canine with a muscular body and short fur stood in front of her. They had an eerie grin, and three pairs of wings on the sides of their head. These creatures were not normal, and Serenity had a sinking gut feeling that they had ill intentions. It's not like she could get away anymore, as she was essentially cornered by the two.
