Mentor: Patch
Badger didn't care for Patch at first, all she did was boss him around and hold him back. However, over time Badger found himself growing to respect her. His mentor was strong and smart and he supposed he could listen to her... just a little. Badger supposes she taught him a thing or two, and made him a rather skilled scout.
Apprentice: Badger
Badger had a new appreciation for Patch when he was given an apprentice of his own. Heron was a sweet wolf, and listened well. But, she just loved to run off and explore. She also didn't seem intimidated by Badger at all! He understood he was her father... but still! She needed to listen to him! Over time however, Badger got a better understanding of his daughter, and how to cater their lessons to better suite her adventurous nature.
History
Badger could only stand the boredom for so long and decided he was going to run away. He wasn't far out of his pack territory when he ran into Jet, immediately deciding to fight the enemy wolf. Jet took him down rather easily, but the young pup found himself impressed by the wolfs skill. Even more impressed when he learnt he was a leader of his own pack.
Badger asked the older wolf all sorts of questions as they walked, ignoring the fact that Jet was walking him back to the Sharconage Pack. When they returned, Badgers pack was glad to see the pup safe… before he announced he had decided to join Jet's pack. Which shocked everyone, including Jet. In the end after a long discussion, Jet took Badger to his new home in The Pack of Souring Summit.
Badger loved The Pack of Souring Summit right away and it wasn't long before he reached adolescence. The only issue is Badger was adamant he would become a scout… despite the pack not needing a new one. Jet tried to explain this to Badger, but he refused to listen. In the end Jet caved and told Badger he could be a scout once the pack had room for one. In his spare time Badger was to help the hunters.
Badger hated helping the hunters, grateful for when he would get to go out scouting with Patch. He didn't really care for what she was teaching him however, he was confident he would figure it out himself. However… after one too many time getting lost and disoriented, Badger reluctantly decided he needed to listen to Patch's advice. Turns out she made for an amazing mentor when he listened, and the wolf found himself gaining respect for the older wolf.
By the time Badger reached adulthood, he had proved himself to be a talented Scout, and a mediocre hunter. Thankfully he didn't have to act as a hunter for much longer. He felt bad for Patch when her mentor Ash passed away, but Badger also couldn't hide his pride and excitement at being an official scout. He was a very committed Scout, guarding and mapping the territory as often as he could.
Badger had always been close with Jet… or more so, Badger was so much of a trouble maker that Jet had to keep a close eye on him. Spending so much time with the leader also meant that he spent a lot of time with his great granddaughter and heir, Elk. Badger wasn't sure what it was about Elk that drew him to her. Maybe it was how kind and patient she was with him, how his overly confident personality amused her more than bothered. How she laughed at his jokes and listened and considered his words. Badger knew deep down that he was brash and idiotic at times, took quick to fight. But Elk listened anyway. If you had told Badger that one day he would take a mate, he would have called you crazy. Yet, here he was, blushing like crazy as Elk happily accepted his confession.
Badger liked Finch, he was a bit too grumpy sometimes, but he liked him none the less. Finch became one of his closest friends and Badger found he didn't mind at all when Elk asked if Finch could become her mate alongside him. It's not as if Elk would love him any less, and now it gave him one more thing that he had in common with Finch, a shared interest of sorts.
Badger was excited when Elk and Finch came to him with the idea of having pups. Only a few months later the litter of three were born, two girls and one boy. Badger was shocked by how much he loved his adoptive pups. He had always considered himself too cool to love anyone… other than Elk of course… and Finch too in a way. But here he was, chest full of love and pride for the small pups.
Badger's adoptive pups grew up so fast, Caribou choosing the life of a healer, while Beaver and Moss chose the life of chasers. Badger was impressed by their strength and initiative and was proud of how strong and charming they had all grown.
Badger, Finch, and Elk had thought a lot about having another litter, with Badger being the father. In the end, they decided if they were going to do that, best to do it now. Badger was frankly shocked and overwhelmed when he saw his six new puppies. Five girls and one lone boy… Badger felt he had his work cut out for him and wondered if this was his punishment for being such a terror as a pup himself. None the less, he would do his best, and he was extremely glad to have both Elk and Finch to help.
After Eagles death, Badger made the choice to become the pack's new mentor. Badger didn't mind the job; he wasn't as young as he used to be, and it made for a nice retirement.
On the 7th year and 8th and a half month of his life, Badger made his way to the mountains summit. Caribou keeping him company through most of the journey. Once at the top, looking out at the endless sky, Badger was greeted by his dear friend Patch, who gently guided him to the afterlife.
