Calico was born into a tightly knit pack of wolves - her family, who had a strong line of warriors was shocked to see Calico's scrawny structure as Calico grew, she knew she was not like her family who preferred fight and known to shed blood with other neighboring packs while she on the other paw rather heal the injured wolves and find different herbs in the marsh.

Her family was not supportive of her interest and instead wanted her to mate with a wolf from another pack, which Calico refused to do; this caused many arguments with her father leading to an incident where he struck her face leaving behind a ugly scar.

Feeling like she had no other choice, Calico decided to leave her pack and live as a loner. She traveled far and became known to other loners, eventually, the other loners began calling her Tornpelt.

One moonless night, Tornpelt ran into Rosemary, the leader of the pack called Talon. Rosemary was kind and sweet to Tornpelt, something that the she-wolf hadn't experienced from her birth pack soon after when the two she-wolfs stopped talking Rosemary asked if Tornpelt would join the pack, and Tornpelt gladly accepted. Rosemary soon discovered Tornpelt's love for healing and herbalism and decided to appoint her as the pack's herbalist apprentice under the mentorship of the old wolf, Sandleaf.
Sandleaf was wise but unfriendly and pushed Tornpelt hard during her apprenticeship. When Sandleaf passed away, Tornpelt was the only herbalist left in the pack and soon became stressed due to the pressure put on her.

One night, Tornpelt ran into a friendly and charming male loner and the two began meeting up in secret. Shortly afterwards, Tornpelt found that she was pregnant. Thinking that her park may disapprove of the pregnancy, Tornpelt decided to keep the pregnancy a secret and give birth to the pups in secret.
When Tornpelt gave birth to her litter, all the pups died except for one - a son. Tornpelt brought her son back to the pack and claimed he was a lost puppy. Rosemary accepted the pup and gave him to Tadpole to raise. Tadpole named the pup RedPath

Tornpelt felt guilty for betraying her pack and abandoning her son, but she knew it was the right thing to do. She found joy in training a small pup named Mairgold to be a hardworking herbalist. Eventually, she noticed that her pack leader who she came to befriend was stressed and Tornpelt confronted her on this and gave the leader advice which she happily accepted.

Tornpelt still saw RedPatch and became heartbroken when he had decided to join another pack but knew she could never be involved as deep in his life as she wished to be.
