A strange sighting of a fox-like creature that appears to be burning has been documented multiple times alongside both the border line and an abandoned logging road found approximately 30 miles south. Several hikers have brought this bizarre report to rangers from the National Park Service, who are 'entirely baffled' by these statements. It was initially believed to be an illegal fur-trapper cruelly disposing of nuisance animals, however, no evidence of such an operation has been found.
One hiker (who wishes to maintain anonymity,) spoke to our senior journalist in a bid to find some kind of clue to his strange walk-in with the figure:
"It...kind of looked like a fox, but...big. Way bigger than normal. Almost the size of a really big dog, maybe even a wolf? Before I saw it, I caught on to the smell of smoke. Not contained, like a campfire, but more like a wildfire. I started looking around, y'know, trying to see where it was coming from, and...the...thing....just walked by me. Like 5-10 feet away. It only looked at me for a split second, but...I dunno, man. Its eyes looked like fire, it was even backlit like it was on fire. It had some kind of...ash, on its paws. Just walked by, gave me a glance, and walked on.
If I wasn't so damn terrified by the whole encounter, I'd almost say the thing was... serene. Dunno what else to call it."
